Strukturerat lärande genom Action Design Research. En studie om visualisering av behörigheter

As organizations are generating more business intelligence in their systems, more employees need access those systems. As a result some sort of permission management needs to be implemented to ensure the information remain safe. Access Control Matrix (ACM) is one way of managing permissions and is widely used among organizations. The issues that comes with ACM is that the matrix itself gets difficult to manage and overview as its complexity increases with the number of permissions. The study utilizes Action Design Research to develop a tool for visualizing permissions. Action Design Research is a action research methodology with the purpose of study organizational change by implementing an IT artifact. Two separate issues were examined in this paper: ?How can Action Design Research be applied to seize knowledge acquired during system development?? and ?How can criterias of visualizing and principles of design be utilized to improve permission management in IT systems??. A customized model, based on ADR, was formed by revising the different stages of system development. Every stage ends with learning and reflection. Our contribution to the method consists of a more evident structured reflection and learning stage than previous applications of the method. When developing a permission management system it is important to design the interface to mimic the base system and make the user interface workflow obvious. Furthermore, by presenting relevant, related information the users won?t have to use other tools in order to retrieve that information. Keywords: Action Research, Action Design Research, Decision support systems, Access Control, Visualization
