Sprickor i planeringen. Ett utforskande mönsterarbete om en storstad

The goal with my project was to explore what it is that distinguishes Berlin as a city and then translate that into abstract patterns. The patterns are made for wallpaper and are presented in a book as a collection. After spending six months almost constantly abroad visiting many different citys I began to wonder what it is that makes a city unique. Sometimes it feels as though cities are reduced to the sum of their famous sights. But of course a city is more than that. It?s the people who live in it, the history, architecture and culture. It is also its mistakes and problems that makes it into what it is.A city that never ceases to fascinate me is Berlin. There is something there that I?m still trying to put my finger on, a feeling that I want make into something physical and take home with me.Some of the questions I asked in the beginning of this project was:What is it that distinguishes Berlin?Which ingredients must be there to find the feeling of Berlin? Is it possible to portray a city in nonfigurative patterns? In many ways this was a hard project to pull off. I was struggling with how to approach turning the feeling of Berlin into abstract patterns and was thinking too much about which shapes and forms I could use. After some thinking I decided that it was the maner in which I made the patterns along with the colours I used that was going to be most important. The words I used to guide me where ordered/disintegrated, layers and structures. I also wanted to work with details where the fitting was slightly off.
