Gestaltning av tillfälliga städer : en undersökning om egenskaper och gestaltningsprinciper

Designing temporary Cities is a study of the design and physical planning of five temporary Cities. The purpose was to discuss and note the important questions to be considered, when designing the outdoor environment in temporary Cities to create as good an environment for the visitor as possible. The five Cities I have chosen are among the most famous ones in Scandinavia, and they represent different kinds of temporary Cities. This was a deliberate choice to achieve diverse research material, and with that a broad view of what the planning stage generally looks like. Study of the Cities has been done through interviews with the people responsible for the design and/or physical planning of each city.

My project is an interpretation and exploration of the book The Invisible Cities by Italo Calvino. It is a play on the swedish words for Cities and beaches. By adding the letters R and N the word for Cities in the title transforms into the word for beaches. The project is equal parts a color investigation and an exploration of new working methods as it is an development of my approch to graphic design. My aim was to, through a visual, conceptual and playful investigation create a new interpretation of the book The Invisible Cities.

Resultatet av 150 års samlande : en dokumentation av Gästrike-Hälsinge nations konstsamling

There is an old saying, that after Epaminondas nothing was ever the same again. In this thesis I will focus on three questions: "Epaminondas the man." Who was he? "Epaminondas the general." How did he build the walls around the Cities he initiated, that made them resist enemy attacks for many years to come? While seeking the answers to yhese questions I will make a contextual analysis to get the historical background to all the phenomina involved..

En kvalitativ studie om svenska städers förväntningar och agerande i nätverket Eurotowns

Some researchers claim that we are witnessing the advancement of becoming a network society, and in spite of the different problems associated with the network form of organization, many Cities still choose to engage in different types of networks. On account of that the aim of the study is to examine which expectations Swedish member Cities of the network Eurotowns might have, and if their actions in the initial period of engagement in Eurotowns mainly could be explained by ?Logic of Consequentiality? or ?Logic of Appropriateness?.A qualitative research method was used and a major part of the empirical material consists of the information given by the interviewees.Regarding the expectations Swedish member Cities have on Eurotowns, the result showed that five main areas could be identified mutual resource exchange, activities, breadth, security and meeting place. The results also showed that the actions of Swedish member Cities may vary between ?Logic of Consequentiality?, ?Logic of Appropriateness? or a combination of the both logics.Furthermore the study also provides empirical evidence supporting the previously theoretical criticism expressed regarding the central assumption that the strategic actions of an actor can be regarded as a direct consequence of the mutual resource dependency..

Trädgårdsstaden : från historisk idé till dagsaktuell verklighet

The aim of this study has been to make clear the conception of ?The Garden City?, and also to investigate why and how the garden city has come to be a more frequent and attractive form of settlement in our Swedish community. The essay is supported by a literature study about the garden city from its beginning (1890?s) to present time. To make a distinct explanation of the garden Cities progress over time, I have studied the idea behind two garden Cities of today, Tullinge and Vistabergs garden city.

Staden som en kollektiv aktör En abduktiv fallstudie på Malmö stad

AbstractCities are once again becoming the locus of economic, social and political processes. The effect of these processes on the city is two-fold: one one hand they threaten to fragment and dislocate the city and the actors within them, on the other hand they give actors within Cities new opportunities to react and mobilize resources towards different strategies of integration. The latter gives rise to what Patrick Le Galès calls the collective actor-city. The aim of this thesis is to explore the notion of the city as a collective actor in a swedish context by utilizing Le Galès theory of european Cities as collective actors in an abductive case study on the city of Malmoe. By utilizing Le Galès five dimensions that make up a collective actor I analyze interviews conducted with city officals aswell as documents produced from the city wide plan of action Welfare for everybody.

Härnösand och E4:an - vägen som lokaliseringsfaktor

Cities have always been founded on nodes of different roads. The city Harnosand was founded where the road along the coast of north Sweden meets the sea and the calm bay of Nattviken behind the island of Harnon. Harnosand has a big historic heritage as one of the first Cities in the north part of Sweden, centre of the church and education city. The incrising centralisation of Sweden and the globalication of the world have made north of Sweden to the backside of Sweden. The coun- tryside and the smaller Cities don ?t live anymore. In Harnosand is big moving out and many empty spaces. In the middle of Harnosand next to Nattviken, is one of these empty spaces. This empty space next to the road of E4, that leads out in the world and Europa.

Människovänliga stadsrum enligt Jan Gehl

How do you build Cities that are exciting and nice to live in? What factors in the physical environment is it that make you feel comfortable in some of the places in the city, but in other places not comfortable at all? Why do some Cities have a rich public life in their public realm, while the public realm in other Cities is abandoned and empty? How do you plan environments that support people?s physical and mental health? These are questions that I put to myself, and that people who are interested in or working with physical planning should ask themselves. That is why I have been studying an authority on the subject, the Danish Professor Jan Gehl, who has been researching and working with peoplefriendly public realms for 50 years. He is best known for his book Life between buildings that has been a text-book in the education of architects for more than 30 years, and to have initiated Copenhagens most famous pedestrian street, Strøget, to show his theory of how people will use the public realm, if it?s only got the right qualities.
