Sjukdomar i vallgräs

uppdatering av Faktablad om växtskydd -Sjukdomar i vallgräs (95 J)

In Sweden, 2011, ley was grown almost as much as cereals, which means that in terms of area, ley is an important crop. A lay can consist of either grass or grass combined with legumes e.g. clover. Forage grasses can be affected by many differ- ent diseases, some during the winter and some during the growing season. The diseases which do damage during the winter are called snow mold and can make large areas perish. These diseases include pink snow mold, typhula blight and snow scald. Other types of diseases can cause leaf spots or affect the ear. Some of the pathogens that cause disease in grasses can also be dangerous for herbivorous ani- mals for example Claviceps purpurea and Epichloë typhina. Fungi of the genus Neotyphodium are also possible pathogens to herbivorous animals. They live in symbiosis within the plant and are not visible on the outside. To a large extent mainly the quantity of harvest is affected and not the quality. While there are diseases that also affect quality such as Claviceps purpurea and Epichloë typhina, that can harm the animals that eat grass.
