Utveckling av träningsprodukt med multifunktion

In the spring of 2009 Silva Sweden AB was contacted for a collaboration within the scope of a MasterThesis project. The company had discussed the possibility to develop a device that monitors usermovement during different types of exercise. The objective of this Master Thesis has therefore been todevelop and design a multi training device that records the user?s physical performance during severalactivities. The purpose of the thesis project has been to use scientific methods for product development inorder to design a multi device that supplements Silva?s range of products.The project followed a product development process divided into four phases; Market Analysis, ConceptCreation, Concept Development and Construction. The first phase consisted of significant research andlitterature studies and aimed to identify the target group for a multi device from Silva. The habits andneeds of the target group indicated which activities the product should be able to measure. A largenumber of concepts were then created, meeting the demands stipulated in a requirement specification.The strongest concept was then further developed and designed and technologies, materials, detailedconstruction and manufacturing methods were later defined.The multi training device, Silva Quattro-S, is developed for walking, running, biking and swimming. Thetechnology is based on active sensors monitoring the user?s movements momentarily during the workout.The sensors are placed in a Main Unit and two external Pod Units, where the Main Unit presentsperformance data such as speed, distance, active time and consumed energy on a LCD display. Theproduct is, via USB, compatible with Silva?s interactive exercise communitywww.silvaconnect.com.Monitoring exercise during walking, running, biking and swimming in one single product makes SilvaQuattro-S unique on the market. Additionally an advantageous pricing of the product has been obtainedby optimized technology and construction. This combined with innovative design creates good conditionsfor an eventual market launch of the product in the spring of 2011.
