Resan mot Web 2.0

En studie om var populära resmåls webbplatser befinner sig i webbutvecklingen i relation till Web 2.0

This essay is inspired by an earlier essay written in 2012 by Sanna Johansson and Erika Winther. In their essay they examined Sweden?s municipalities? tourist websites and graded these based on a number of Web 2.0 criterias. In this essay we examine tourist websites belonging to the 15 most popular tourist destinations in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and Ireland. The purpose of this study is to give a general overview of how far these countries? tourist websites have come in terms of web development, in relation to Web 2.0. By observing the websites based on a number of criteria, we place them on a scale between Web 1.0 and Web 2.0. Some examples of criteria that are being studied are whether the websites are interactive and if the destinations make use of social media. We also examine whether there is a correlation between a country?s tourism revenue and its? tourist websites. The results show that the mean value of all observed websites is Web 1.4. None of the examinated websites can be categorized as Web 2.0. The results also show that the countries are similar in terms of web development, apart from Northern Ireland and Wales where the scores are substantially lower than the other countries?. There is some correlation between a country?s tourism revenue and its tourist websites in terms of web development. The country that has recieved the highest score in our study is also the country that has the highest tourism revenues, and vice versa.
