Olika kön - olika bedömningar?

En kvalitativ studie baserad på socialarbetares bedömningar kring ett enskilt fall

This qualitative study aims to highlight if there are any gender difference in social workers reasoning about a particular case. To achieve a deeper understanding we had to explain and understand our respondent?s answers, primarily from a gender perspective, but also from a power perspective. Our questions were: how does social worker reasoning about a particular case? How can we understand the social workers answer from a gender- and power perspective? The method consisted of a construct case and of semi-structured interviews. By using the theories of the nuclear family, hegemony, omission, the paternalistic approach and theory of gender socialization we have created an understanding for the respondent?s argument. By using the narrative analysis method we have, accept this, searched underlying meanings in the respondents? answers. In the results of the study?s could we were able to discern that the male respondents were opposed to coercion and disposal, as well as they emphasized the importance of cooperation with parents. This, we could understand from that they want to keep the nuclear family as an institution to thereby maintain their power in the society.  The men?s responses can also be understood on the basis that they have been socialized into a role which means that they must behave in a certain way; they should be hard and tough. The women emphasized the care and were relatively positive about making foster care. We explain the latter respondent?s answers on the basis that they have been socialized into a gender role which includes that they are careful. The alternative interpretation we been made of the female respondent?s answer is that the positive attitude to take foster care is a way for them to use their power.
