Motorik hos barn som går montessoriskola

En pilotstudie av elever på en montessoriskola i jämförelse med Skola, Idrott och Hälsa-projektet

AimThe aim of this essay is by using a motor skill track to see if there exists any remarkable difference in the motor skill profiles between pupils from our montessori school and the mean score in the "Nytidstest". The questions at issue we had were: How is the motor skill profile on pupils in year 2 and 3 practicing montessori pedagogy? Is the motor skill profile superior or inferior to the mean score in the "Nytidstest"? What factors, if any, concerning the montessori pedagogy affects the results of the test?MethodWe used a motor skill track consisting of 8 stations sellected from the "Nytidstest" adapted for year 3 (the original test consists of 16 stations). Pupils from year 2 and 3 in our chosen montessori school were tested in groups of 4-5 persons each. We made the tests on two occasions each lasting for 100 minutes at the time. The observation and making records was directed through already set criteria which generated a motor skill profile and estimated how the pupils managed the stations, the results of the criteria were then translated into points that generated a motor skill profile.ResultsOur study shows that the pupils on this given montessori school were above the average in the "Nytidstest". However, there were some stations where the score was below average, like jumping and balancing backwards. On the whole the motor skill profile on the pupils from the montessori school rose highly above and in specific cases the performance was up to 100% better. In our test pupils from year 2 also took part and were put to comparison to the year 3 pupils in the "Nytidstest". This was done partly to broaden our selection of pupils but also because their results were not inferior to their school mates in year 3, quite the opposite in some cases it was even superior.ConclusionsWhy the pupils on this particular montessori school had a stronger motor skill profile than the avarage set on the "Nytidstest" we ssume mostly depends on the pedagogy of montessori were motions are encouraged. But also due to the emphasis this school has put on motor skill training. The pupils are in the habit to be active and because of this they may also be more active in their leisure time. Their school yard offers tools for activity and the pupils also have access to a forest. At times when teachers notice someone over energetic that person can take a few laps on the "activity track" set on the playgrounds and when finished return to work.
