Today the competition in the automobile industry is getting all tougher. The technology behind cars becomes more advanced. To get ahead of competitors car companies has to look into new areas of innovation.One important area is vehicle safety. Bigger companies have come so far in vehicle safety that difference between cars more depends on the car type (size) than the technology behind it.There is one area where vehicle safety that still has great opportunities for improvement, which is in active safety. The term active safety states that the car has the ability to identify treats and automatically respond to the treats. One example can be a system that helps the driver to retain, or regain, control of the car after the car has hit a slippery spot on the road.Active safety system can be divided into two pieces. The first is when the system tries to regain control of the car after the driver lost the control. The second is constantly acting to retain the control.This is where the Haldex traction coupling comes in. The Haldex system tries to retain the control of the car by actively direct the power from the motor wheels depending on the approximated driving situation.Electronics has come to be more advance and given the ability control more advance situations, and systems. In some cases electronics is used to replace or reduce advance mechanical constructions. To be able to grant functionality of the system there is need for tests to validate the correct response of a system. Those tests are performed bout on the mechanics and the software, as well as integration between them.Testing a system in a car can be bout expensive and complex. To isolate faults to special areas or to concentrate the testing on specific parts can be complex. Therefore there is a need of specific test equipment to isolate the testing to specific part ore systems.The test cases for the mechanical testing are quite similar. Most Cases are composed of a motor applying torque to the coupling and a break on the other side as well as some equipment for measuring different physical conditions in the system.Despite the similarities in the test equipment setup they all have their separate control and measurement system, instead of a common system adjusted to the specific setup. This is the reason for this master thesis, to develop a platform to be able to gather all the control and measurement software.To have one common control and measurement platform that can be applied to new test systems and to existing system if upgraded.This thesis handles some technologies to use and thoughts about how to build the platform.
