En kartläggning och utvärdering av metoder på ASSA AB

ASSA develops locks and integrated security systems for doors. ASSA is Sweden?s leadingsupplier of locks and security systems. ASSA AB worked during the master thesis withimplementing a common development process for all companies within the group. Ideageneration was one relative unexplored area for the group and the interest of finding effectivemethods was required, the company understood what an effective handling of ideas couldcontribute in the pursuit of more and pleased customers.The purpose of the master thesis has been to study and to map which methods are used inorder to carry out idea generation. The master thesis was expected to result in a number ofworkshops where ASSA AB would test and evaluate a choice of methods for idea generation.The master thesis started with a covering literature study, which took place parallel withinterviews on ASSA AB and ASSA ABLOY. External interviews were performed on productdevelopment companies and consultant companies in aim for the diploma workers´ to getfurther knowledge how to choose and evaluate methods for idea generation. The diplomaworkers´ experience around the idea generation underlined the screening method andrecommendations, which supported project group in their decision about which methods thatwould be tested and evaluated during the following workshops. To get more experience andfurther information about idea generation before the workshops the diploma workers´contacted experts on the subject.There were many different methods whose purpose were to create structure of the current ideageneration and stimulate to increase creativity. They were all specific and generated varioustypes of solutions. This should be clarified in the wide choice of methods before starting anidea generation but was far away the most crucial factor. The interviews with consultantshowed that the leader?s role has a big importance for the result of an idea generation and thediploma workers´ made it clear by recently founded experience within the matter. To sum up,it can as a result be said that ?exercise gives skill? which means that the organization as wellas the individual should be surely familiar with the method that will be used during an ideageneration.
