Medarbetarnas uppfattning om den psykosociala arbetsmiljön - En kvalitativ pilotstudie om engagemang och trivsel på ett logistikföretag

Introduction: Workplace health promotion is important for both the health of the employee and the profability of the company. Among other things the psychosocial work environment tends to be related with motivation and well-being at work. Employees who experience work motivation and job satisfaction are at less risk of illness, which may also result in reduced absenteeism. Aim: The purpose was that of a smaller pilot study examining a qualitative methodology to obtain detailed and concrete information about the blue-collar employees' views on what helps or impair the psychosocial work on the logistics company. Method: A qualitative approach where semi-structured interviews were held with four focus groups was used. The data was processed by content analysis in which the main categories and subcategories were formed. Results: According to the employees, similar factors affected both work motivation and well-being. Factors that were considered to create motivation and contribute to job satisfaction were external and internal rewards, social satisfaction, trust between employees and management, challenges and to obtain a complete picture. Factors that adversely affected the motivation and job satisfaction were unavailable leadership, constant changes, reorganizations and executive changes, lack of participation, lack of equal conditions, feedback problems, poor communication and lack of solidarity. Negative stress and lack of education could lead to a feeling of high/difficult demands while gloominess was able to give a feeling of low/light demands. The employees stated five possible areas of improvement, which was visible and accessible leadership, sustained changes, involved employees, improved communication, greater cohesion and change in schedule. Based on this purpose, focus groups are a time-consuming but a satisfactory method. The data also resulted in relevant and useful information. Discussion: It was evident that the psychosocial work environment was important for the employees. Based on the findings of this study, logistics company should discuss possible actions and changes that might contribute to increased work motivation, increased well-being and reduced absenteeism among employees.
