Med alliansen som utgångspunkt ? Behandlingspersonal och ungdomar om positiva förändringsfaktorer för ungdomar inom institutionsvården

The practice of residential treatment of youth has been up for debate for quite some time. The debate regarding institutional care has voiced concerns regarding the lack of follow-up and evaluation of treatment and its efficacy. It is especially important with additional research on residential treatment conducted from the perspective of those being treated, as well as the treatment providers. This study aims to add to this field of research. The study is based on two empirical studies conducted through qualitative interviews. One is with treatment providers and within unlocked residential treatment regarding the youth they have treated whom have had a positive outcome. The second is with youth whom have previously been subject to residential treatment. Further, these empirical materials are compared. The study aims to respond to the following research questions.? What factors of change, according to treatment providers and youth whom have previously been subject to residential treatment, have assisted the youth to make a change for the positive?? What similarities and differences can be found between the treatment providers view of change, and that of the youth?? How are different factors of change correlating? The empirical material has been comprised into eight different themes based on what the respondents considered to be important factors of change. These have been organized under three different categories; individual, relational, and structuring factors. A comparison is made between the results from the treatment providers and the youth. The conclusion is that all these factors correlate with each other in an intricate process of change which emphasizes the therapeutic alliance and affects the will, hope and motivation of the youth. This triad is the core of change that takes place through a variety of specific interventions meant to target different treatment needs based on the individual youth.
