Materialdistribution i ett tillverkningsföretag

en fallstudie av PartAB

The purpose of this project is to study Partab's material distribution process, furthermore identify critical problem areas within the company. Further the aim is to provide suggestions to new work procedures regarding material distribution and related processes. Appropriate literature has been used as a support in this process. The main goal of a commercial company is to generate cash flow, and maximize the return on investment. Streamlining material supply and the use of material is a part of this process. Virum and Persson define logistics as: "Logistics is the approach and principles founding the process of planning, development, coordination, organisation, management, and control of material distribution from supplier to user". This definition will serve as a starting point for this project. Material management is so much more than just supplying material. Material management is an art and a science including transportation, storing, and control, with the purpose of achieving time- and place efficiency. By identifying the seven R's and respond to their meaning for the company subject to this study, the seven R's found the starting point for improvement and/or change of the organisation. Often the process of transportation of material within or between companies is described as material torrent. The torrent of material must hold the efficiency to deliver products just in time to a low cost (the lowest cost is not necessarily the right cost). The logistic efficiency can be measured using the terms capital tied up, cost, and service. These three terms can in turn be divided into components. The logistic target mix can be used to focus on the most important issues. Naturally it is not possible to optimize all details without improved delivery service, which is affecting both costs and capital tied up. The company has to find a good mix.
