The aim of this thesis is to show gender equality in school for teacher's choice of words with gender-sensitive language related to children's literature "Do you know Pippi Longstocking?". Work has focused on preschool and grade 1. The theme of the thesis is that the teaching profession should look human. The study provides a literature review of the teacher's choice of words in the gender order as the words hen, man, gender, sex, etc., and a review of Pippi Longstocking by Astrid Lindgren on the basis of the related concepts. The coupling of the concepts are also made to the governing documents. The study goes on to describe how the School Board and other such professors and researchers talk about equality for school, kindergarten and preschool classes. The importance of the teacher's use of language and gender literature asserts that used for the teacher's further work with children about gender. The results that emerges is that there are a number of ways to work with gender equality, including literature and language to use and how they can be used, for example, or a hen instead of one. It shows that it is important that teachers have knowledge about gender and how teachers talk to children about gender. Furnishings for a gender sensitive pedagogy are at it too.
