Kollektivistiska individer i en individualistisk kultur

en fenomenologisk studie om hur muslimer och jezidier från mellanöstern upplever livet i den svenska kulturen


The purpose of this study is to examine if Muslims and Jezidier from the Middle East experience changes in them self when they live in Sweden and how they feel about apply for work in the Swedish labour market. The study uses the individualistic - collectivistic dimension to describe the differences between the Swedish culture and the participants home culture. A phenomenological, theoretical and methodological approach has been followed, with self-reports as the instrument for data collection. The information where analysed through the softwares MCA - Minerva and Sphinx-Lexica. The analyses show many different outcomes. Some of the participants had an overwhelming positive experience of the Swedish culture and were very grateful for all the support they received from the Swedish society. The majority of the participants had negative experiences of the Swedish culture at first, but in time they were adjusting. A few of the participants had an overwhelming negative experience of the Swedish culture. One reason why the participants felt it hard to adapt to a life in Sweden was because their cultural traditions and religious needs could be satisfied, neither in the everyday life nor at the workplace. Some participants felt uncertainty about how much knowledge in the Swedish language that is required to enter the Swedish labour market. Other participants found it strange that education is necessary for all kind of work. Furthermore some were skeptical to the employment service ability to help immigrants to find job. School and language were fundamental aspects in the acculturation process allowing for their participation in the Swedish culture and workplaces.
