Kadmium i skånska vattendrag

en metodstudie i föroreningsmodellering

Modelling of pollutants is commonly used in research and at departments working with environmental issues. The need to use large amounts of data when modelling creates the opportunity for more generalised models with lower data demands. Aggregating functions into coarser elements is a sort of generalisation of actual features in nature.A development of a method and a modelling tool called ?KadmiumKalkylatorn? has been performed to model cadmium pollution in rivers in Skåne, Sweden. The water runoff has been multiplied with cadmium standard concentrations based on membership in landuse classes. The result is based on, and reported for, watersheds and river basins defined by the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute, SMHI.Compared to other models KadmiumKalkylatorn generates smaller loads of cadmium in the region. However, compared to monitored loads the model results are high. A negative correlation exists between measured and modelled concentrations. This is probably caused by the fact that the standard concentrations used in the model have various origins and are developed for different usage. The temporal resolution of validation data results in an unsatisfying testing of the model?s efficiency. The uncertainties in standard concentrations and data for validating the cadmium concentrations in the water courses could be seen as an indication of the unappropriate use of the model for concentration estimations. It works better for calculating the cadmium loads. The KadmiumKalkylator is generating relevant results, compared to other regional pollutant models and the tool could easily be used in other regions and for other pollutants than cadmium.
