Hur påverkar organisationsstrukturen genomförandet av social dokumentation


The purpose of this study has been to analyze how managers within the elderly care who operate according to the Social Services Act work to support the assistant nurses with the social documentation. In order to achieve my purpose and to be able to answer the research questions, a qualitative approach was selected. My empirical material consists of seven interviews, four with assistant nurses and three with managers. Anthony Giddens? structuration theory in Månsson, (2003 s. 422) has been my theoretical starting-point and the concepts of practical and discursive consciousness have been used in the analysis. Furthermore, I have used the concept zone of indifference in the theory regarding authority relations in organizations by Chester Barnard (Barnard, 1968).My research questions are:How do managers and assistant nurses perceive the purpose and content of the social documentation?Which approaches do managers use to inform and educate assistant nurses in the execution of the social documentation?How and when is the social documentation executed?I have used the analytical method meaning condensation, as I am interested in managers? and assistant nurses? perceptions and experiences of social documentation. The main headings which are developed from the results are purpose, method and organization.The essay shows that elderly care staff believe that the social documentation?s primary use is to ensure good care for patients/clients. It is the contact person?s responsibility to prepare an implementation plan together with the patient and to continuously write daily notes. There is an understanding amongst assistant nurses and managers that the implementation plan is a tool which is going to simplify the elderly care. However, it is difficult to specify exactly what should be documented. Managers? strategies to help staff in maintaining a good social documentation is mostly done by informing that documentation should be kept. Sometimes case studies are used during planning days and workplace meetings. Training in social documentation is virtually non-existent; instead managers choose to educate the assistant nurses in computer programs that are used for documentation.
