The purpose of this study was to examine how the foster parent's need of support is provided. The study was built upon a qualitative method with interviews with ten foster parents. More specifically, its aim was too find out how the foster parents themselves looked upon how their need of support, and from whom the support was provided. According to the law, it is the social services obligation to provide the foster parents with all the support they could need. The picture the media sends out is different from what it should be because according to them, the social services fall short in the follow-up and also the support of the contact with the foster parents. The media however is lacking from a foster parents perspective. The purpose was to investigate how they experience of their need of support to be satisfied. We have chosen the ecological system theory to get an overall picture of the foster parents' situation, and to see where they experience their support from. We found a variation in how the foster parents experienced their need for support is satisfied. The foster parents, however, experienced the biggest support from their family and from other foster parents. We have seen that they experienced less or no support whatsoever from relatives and other friends. Most respondents experienced a support in the way the follow-up is shaped, but emphasized a big problem in changes of social welfare. The foster parents experienced the contact with the biological parents, to be the greatest problem. The respondents experienced that commissioning a foster home takes many years to complete. In the future, the respondents emphasized more information regarding the commission of a foster home will be given out prior to people becoming foster parents.
