morgondagens arbetsplats

Today we see a fast developing of the market for mobile communication, both in an increased and changed mobile use, but also in the development of new technologies and services. Much that can be performed on Internet/Intranet today with a PC will in some years also be possible to do with a mobile terminal. Mobile Internet will probable take place when new technologies as GPRS, EDGE and UMTS will be in use. These technologies in combination with the development of new terminals and services will bring new capabilities for both companies and private users. This report describes how a portal should be designed in order to meet the needs on the market. A focus has been put on companies and their employees and how they can be more efficient through the use of a portal. The report also describes which strategy that Telia should choose to manage this portal. Interviews have been performed with employees/companies in telecom- business: an additional focus was done on actors that today are owners of portals. Further analysis led to the professions we selected to interview to find out more about the companies needs. The employees within the three professions (field-engineer, field-seller, and consultant) that were interviewed were all positive to the possibility to use mobile Internet and they all saw many advantages both as a skilled- worker, but also as a private person. Needs that appeared above all was ability to facilitate their daily activities. Many needs were the same in both roles, private/work, which signifies that there are a dynamically behaviour among the employees and that they are hover between the role as a skilled-worker and a private person. The employees work from different locations today (nomadic behaviour), these locations are based on the information or tools that are accessible and needed. ?An employee wants to, in its profession, be able to reach, work and mediate information wherever he is located. The information and data that are needed in the different categories The desk, On the Way and Visiting does not vary much.? These needs not only regard the professions we've interview, they also concern other co-workers. Factors that are common for employees are that they usually are using the same tools or supporting applications and they want to take part of internal/external information that affect either their own company or the line of trade they works within. A future portal solution should therefore include all employees within a company and not only focus on the professions that are mobile in the remark that they essentially are travelling. The need of a effective flow of information becomes more and more significant for companies, so that they could be able to pay more attention to its internal and external customers more and more increasingly demanding needs. We therefore propose a portal, a Company Portal, which regardless of access could be able to support ALL employees within a company. The portal and its capabilities is the primary focus and the channels that the portal offers access through are of secondary importance. The Company Portal then becomes both a work- and a meeting place for the companies? employees and its other partners. The portal can imply cost savings for the companies and an increased effectiveness if they can use a uniform location from where they could work and mediate information through.
