People live longer. There is a growing need to increase the knowledge of aging and of the need among the elderly for medical care in the near future. As a step towards meeting this need, a survey among the elderly in Skåne is made by the division of Geriatric Medicine in Malmö University Hospital. This survey is called Gott åldrande i Skåne, GÅS. A frequent decease among the elderly is Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI). The people with this decease have a problem with their cognitive functions, such as their memory. There are some theories as to what may cause these symptoms, but it is still quite unclear. One thing that is unclear is the effects that large falls in blood pressure in connection with a sudden upraise from a resting position may have on this diagnosis. Another factor that has not yet been properly examined is the effect that pulse pressure may have on the diagnosis. This essay is meant to be a guide for the researchers who are interested in examining these problems. Based on data from the GÅS survey, with the multinomial logistic regression as method, there is evidence of a connection between the systolic blood pressure fall and MCI. There is no evidence of any connection between the pulse pressure and MCI.
