exempel från Västerbottens museums textilsamling

This thesis is performed as a case study in Västerbotten Museum's textile storage space. The intention with this study is to investigate the relationships between the museum?s tasks: to collect, preserve and make the collections accessible. The aim is to reveal the problems that exist in museums today with increasing collections, less resources for the preservation of the collections and increasing requirements on accessibility. The aim is to deduce the problem by finding out how the different tasks relate to one another today.  It will also be interesting to find out how the history and traditions of the museum has influenced the work as it looks today and how external and internal factors affect the priorities set out in the practical work in the museum. The study is primarily based on interviews with those who were responsible for the textile storage space during the period under investigation. The statements are analyzed and connected to the data in registers, annual and quarterly reports and museum scientific research to provide the context necessary for understanding the context. The result shows that the problems existing in the relationship between the museum?s different missions seem to be largely attributable to the fact that preservation and collecting are placed behind closed doors. And therefore mainly characterized by traditions while accessibility is constantly remodeled by social changes. This seems to have created a lack of understanding and commitment to the collections generally and inability for the museum to obtain resources to these areas.
