A large problem in our society is the diseases that inactivity brings to the population. The lifestyle you have in adolescence is often the same that you have in adulthood. Because of this, prevention should start in youth. The aim of this study was to investigate the experience that youths have of physical education and it?s influence in their spare-time activities. We also wanted to investigate if there are any differences in opinion between physically active and inactive youths. A survey study was carried out in a class nine in the northern part of Sweden. The age of the 75 youths varied from 14-16 years. The results showed that a majority of the students thought physical education was fun which was the most important thing about the subject. Fifty percent of the students would like to make some changes in the subject, like longer lessons and alterations in activities. There was only a small group of students who thought that physical education has an influence in their spare-time activities. Several of the students answered that they could find an activity of their own in physical education that they wanted to participate in during their spare-time. A greater share of the inactive students in comparison with the active students thought they didn?t have any influence on the contents and organisation of physical education.
