Haninge kulturhus - en organisationsteoretisk studie med fokus på den fysiska strukturen
This master thesis aims to describe and examine Haninge cultural centre, inaugurated in 2002. We study the centre from an organization theory point of view, with focus on the buildings physical appearance. The question we want to answer is to what extent, and if, Haninge cultural centre fulfills the underlying vision, formulated by the municipality of Haninge. Is the centre the symbol of a new era of Haninge and a vivid democracy as it was meant to be? Is there a congruency between the image the building creates and the vision that was formulated by the municipality? We also seek out to see how the cultural centre relates to an older tradition of cultural centres. In order to find answers to these and other questions we investigate the building, with the help of our chosen theory. We therefore, in accordance with the theoretical framework, explore the buildings design, layout and geography. When doing this we choose to explore the building from a symbolic perspective. What do the different ways and manners in which the architects have chosen to represent the intentions of the municipality actually symbolize. Especially when deciphered in a larger context than in this specific case? From an architectural point of view the building both points forward when, and if, setting an example for future buildings in the area, but also to an older historical context of Swedish architecture, as being a symbol of progress and democracy. The building itself, with very few exceptions, interplays very well with art and furnishing. Our general conclusion is that the building in most ways does what the municipality of Haninge asked for. Though, we also see that there are, if not hidden agendas, at least underlying intentions with the building as being a part of a starting point for a new era of Haninge where knowledge and education is of greater importance than formerly seems to have been the case.
