en kvalitativ studie av upplevelser hos kvinnor med osteoporos

Every second woman in Sweden suffers in their lifetime of fracture that is related to osteoporosis. Osteoporosis and fractures affect the person´s everyday life. The aim of the study was to describe experiences of feeling well among women with osteoporosis. Six women were interviewed with semi- structured interviews. The interviews were transcribed and the text was analyzed with thematic content analysis. The analysis resulted in an overall theme: To live as active and independent life as possible that emerged on the basis of five categories. The result showed that women with osteoporosis adapted to their situation and made the best of it to feel good. They thought it was comforting to know that they could get help when needed but wanted to manage themselves as far as possible. It was also important to have contact with significant persons. Being able to live an active and stimulating life and taking part of culture and community was valuable for women. In order to feel well, they had learned to cope with their illness. They knew what they would do if they had pain and how to be physically active to prevent further deterioration. The women described different things important to them in their daily life, therefore it is important that every woman is seen as a unique person and the advice and support is adapted to her situation. Nurses who facing women with osteoporosis at home, at the primary health care center or at the hospital, can by increased knowledgement of what make women with osteoporosis feel well in their daily life help them manage the illness so that an increasing wellbeing is achieved.
