"En barnbibliotekarie finner förr eller senare folksagan" om folksagans ställning på fyra bibliotek

The object of this master thesis was to examine the significance of fairy Tales for children and the extent which children today are able to share fairy Tales through the activity of the libraries. The main question was: how current were fairy Tales at the investigated libraries activity for children and how current were fairy Tales in todays book publication? The qualitative methods used were in the form of interviews, statistics and source studies. The theoretical literature in this thesis described the folkloristic context of the fairy Tales. There was also a psychological and a pedagogical view of the possibility of the fairy Tales.

This paper is a study of female liminal developments in a selection of Grimm's fairy Tales using van Gennep?s and Lincoln?s theoretical bases. An inductive technique has been used to analyze the results according to the theoretical agendas. To my help I have used Swedish translations of the Grimms? fairy Tales from 1883, 1946, 2003 and 2007.The study shows that the fairy Tales of the Brothers Grimm fairy Tales display the transition rituals identified by Van Gennep and Lincoln.

"Och så levde de lyckliga i alla sina dagar" : En analys av den borgerliga diskursen i den östgötska folksagan

Fairy Tales are commonly considered to be both timeless and classless. Since the 17th century, when most of the Tales we have access to today were first collected and published, the idea that fairy Tales are part of an oral tradition, and therefore more or less uninfluenced by academic and literary trends, have been dominant amongst researchers, critics and readers. This idea needs to be revaluated. Even if the Tales might have their roots in an oral tradition the history of the fairy tale ?is not primarily a history of oral transmission, but rather a history of print?, as Elizabeth Wanning Harries puts it (Wanning Harries, 2001:4).

Gemensamma strukturer i isländska sagor

This paper is a morphological structure-analysis of icelandic Tales to determine their common and distinguishable components in relation to one another and to the russian folktale with Vladimir Propp?s book Morphology of the Folktale (1968) as theoretical basis. The paper looks at the Poetic Edda and Njals saga and the functions of the actions for each other and for the story as a whole. Although the icelandic Tales shows great similarities with the russian folktale in general, it also shows deviations. The functions have sometimes appeared on inverted positions, and in a full third of the stories the evil has won over the good in a crucial struggle, but has in 90 % of these stories still been punished before the end.

With this paper the aim is to find out whether there are any differences in how five students from the north part of Africa structures their Tales in comparison with the Nordic tale "The emperor?s new clothes". The purpose is to look at how the genre pedagogy can be said to relate to these differences. What happens to the "deviant" structures?Based on literature and research on the subject, I have concluded that there are certain patterns of how a tale "should" be structured based on Western standards.

Beatrix Potters kaniner : verklighet och fantasi

This master thesis deals with questions concerning facts and fiction in the world of Beatrix Potter's rabbits. The purpose is first and foremost to find the connections between the pet rabbits, that she used as art models, and the rabbits that came to life through her "Tales".The method has been to gather facts through biographic reading, and to analyse Beatrix Potter's rabbit Tales, using tools developed by Swedish picture book experts. The rabbit characters are thoroughly examined and so are the settings where the Tales take place. Matters concerning Beatrix Potter's painting technique and illustration style as well as her literary and pictorial inspirations are dealt with. Conclusions are, that the fictive rabbit characters have indeed a lot to do with the fact that Beatrix Potter was interested in natural history and studied animal behaviour and anatomy in detail. For a long time rabbits, both wild and domesticated, were her favourite study objects which provided conditions for her rabbit fantasies.

This essay is dealing with the difficulties of cataloging and classifying anonymi and other kinds of literature without the components which have set the norm for bibliographic cataloging, i.e. a defined author, a standardized title etc. A typical example of this kind of literature is folklore and folkTales, which are dealt with thoroughly here. The character of and the society's historical view upon the folk literature, as literature considered, are being described, as is the evolution of rules for cataloging in general. The folk literature is mostly systematized after a different pattern from other literature, since bibliographical facts are often missing.

The purpose of this thesis is to investigate how childrens librarians at public libraries motivate their selection and their purchases of fiction for children and youth. The aim is also to find out what is felt like a problem at the selection process and what is not. Six childrens librarians have been interviewed in this qualitative study. On a basis of a theory of literature pedagogic perspectives the librarians were asked how they look upon purchase of fairy-Tales, classics, pulpliterature and literature that contributes to the debate about man and society. They were also asked about their opinions of Bibliotekstjänst, of criticism of childrens books and how they reason about their purchases in general.

Tales from under the Candy Cane Tree: Diktbok genom storytelling

According to the Swedish curriculum, teachers have an assignment to educate children to become democratic citizens. Students will develop values given in the curriculum's section, dealing with aspirational values. Teachers also have an assignment to transmit a cultural heritage. The curriculum states that education, in a deeper sense, is about to transmit a cultural heritage. This claims that the two assignments would be one and the same.

Culhwch & Lúthien : Keltisk mytologi i J. R. R. Tolkiens sagovärld

This study investigates in what respects Celtic mythology influenced J. R. R. Tolkien when writing the sagas incorporated in the mythopoeic compilation of The Silmarillion. Through narrative and comparative analysis, stories from the Irish prose collection Lebor Gabála Érenn, as well as the Welsh medieval manuscript Mabinogion, are collated to the Tales of The Silmarillion in order to illuminate possible influences.

The text discusses the folk-tale princess as a good role model for both children and adults, from a feminist debate concerning this issue. Also an iconographic study, it compares women in folk-tale illustrations with women represented in fin-de-Siècle art concentrating on the Great mother goddess and the femme fatale, finding similarities between folk-tale illustrations and other art. Besides that, the text look at the interest for Swedish folk-Tales in the 1890´s, the connection between women as illustrators of children?s books and ideas about nature and womanhood that might have had influence on the Swedish artist Elsa Beskow at the time..
