Informal settlements : the world's invisible communities

Since the beginning of the new millennium the world?s population has increased exponentially fast. The majority of this growth has been accommodated for by urbanization of the developing world. This in turn has lead to a wide spread of informal settlements. Thus, areas of urban slums, that have risen illegally on the marginal lands within and at the periphery of the formal city.

Uppgradering av biogas med aska från trädbränslen

The Swedish production of biogas was 1,5 TWh 2011. About half of the production was used as vehicle fuels. The cost for upgrading biogas depends on the size of the biogas plant and its gas production. If the gas flow is low the cost will be high. However, further development of existing upgrading technologies or development of new ones, have good potential to decrease the upgrading cost for small scale biogas plants.

Biogas is a renewable energy source that is produced by anaerobic digestion of organic mate-rial. In Sweden, biogas predominately comes from sewage water sludge and landfills or from organic waste of households and industries. Small scale digestion plants at farms are espe-cially expected to contribute to increased biogas production in the future. Biogas can be ob-tained directly in it?s raw form and used as fuel in a combustion chamber.

Uppgradering av biogas i systemperspektiv med avseende på miljöpåverkan och kostnader

Swedish biogas is currently produced mainly by anaerobic digestion of sewage sludgeat sewage treatment plants, landfills and anaerobic digestion of household or industrialwaste. Also cattle ma-nure from farms can be used to produce biogas. Upgradingbiogas represents an increase in methane concentration from about 65 % to about 97%. In addition, particles and contaminants must be sepa-rated from the upgradedbiogas. There are various methods for upgrading and this report compares sixdifferent methods with respect to environment and economy: water scrubber,Biosling, cryo technology, chemical absorption, Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) andmembrane separation.According to the used ORWARE model, chemical adsorption with amine has the leastenvironmen-tal impact (methane emissions) and the lowest costs.

?These guys they made me through it? ? en kvalitativ studie om livskraften hos ungdomar i Kiberas slum

Syftet med denna uppsats var att påvisa den livskraft som unga människor i Kiberas slum har. Vidare var syftet att visa på vad ungdomarna hoppas att denna livskraft ska leda fram dem till. Studien ville även lyfta fram vad det har funnits för milstolpar och hinder på vägen dit de är idag samt vilken typ av kompetens de besitter. Uppsatsen baserades på en kvalitativ metod. Empiri samlades in i Kibera under en femveckorsperiod.

Miljödifferentierad fastighetsskatt

It is essential to reuse- and recycles residues to decrease the amount of deposit materials and reach sustainable energy use. Two ways to work towards this is to recycle wood ashes to the forest as nutrient compensation and extract biogas from combustion of biomass.The aim with this study was to decide whether wood ashes that been used for biogas upgrading with accelerated carbonation also can be used as a nutrient compensation in the woods according to recommendations from the Swedish Forest Agency (Skogsstyrelsen).The ashes that were used in this study came from Johan Andersson who works at JTI in Uppsala, who also treated the ashes with biogas. The ashes have, in both untreated and treated condition, been analyzed in this study according to contents of elements, leaching properties, hardening properties and contents of crystalline phases, to evaluate what impact carbonation with biogas has on the ashes.The accelerated carbonation led to hardening of the ash, and decreased amount of CaO- and increased amount of CaCO3. The CO2-uptake also entails a dilution of the elements, and the content of nutrients and trace elements decreases. However the results show an indication of an uptake of S from the biogas to the ash, since the dilution had a smaller impact on S than the rest of the elements.

Planering av vägupprustning med hjälp av GIS och optimering : en fallstudie på Holmen Skog

The objective of this thesis was to develop a method for the planning of road upgrading at Holmen Skog, a Swedish forest company. A critical issue for creating such plans is to identify roads that are suitable to upgrade to a standard that can handle heavy traffic during spring thaw, since spring thaw is a bottle neck for transporting timber. The method was tested in a case study at a district. The work consisted of two parts. The first was to retrieve and prepare geographical data for the roads.

Gårdsbaserad biogas på Nya Skottorp : utvärdering och optimering av anläggningen och uppgradering av biogasen

Biogas is an expanding sector within the broad field of agriculture and animal production. Small-scale biogas offers local combined power and heating production and the substrate is transformed into high-quality biological fertilizer. This bachelor thesis focuses on a pig farm in south-western Sweden, where biogas is produced from pig manure, evaluates and suggests ways of optimizing the process and investigates whether investing in an upgrading plant would be a feasible and more cost-efficient option. The results show that the biogas plant is working well, although the production differs from the original plans. This shows in turn that planning and examining the basic conditions before making the investment is of great importance, as well as monitoring and keeping detailed statistics of the running process.

Förutsättningar och Avsättningar för Biogas för Gröna Vessigebro : Version 1.0

The community Vessigebro, in Falkenberg and its surrounding areas housing one percent of all dairy cattle and two percent of all pigs in Sweden. This means that there is a large amount of manure as a basis for producing biogas in the area. A number of farmers have therefore formed a cooperative named Vessigebro biogas and started the project Green Vessigebro, with the goal of creating the conditions for a more profitable and more sustainable agriculture production.The study deals with the conditions and sale opportunities of the feasibility study Green Vessigebro. The study has looked at the work that was previously carried out for the biogas that could be produced on the farms in Vessigebro, The main pipeline for natural gas on the Swedish west coast and its operators, the Swedish Competition Act , Electricity Act , Natural Gas Act, the District Heating Act , Sustainability Act , previously proposed measures, municipality interest in biogas from Vessigebro , possible collaborations, possible sale opportunities and perform calculations with data from the municipality Ljungby for a suggested transportation of biogas between Vessigebro and Ljungby.The study shows that there are several interesting sale opportunities for biogas from Vessigebro. The production and use of biogas in Sweden is increasing and the trend seems set to continue.

Gamla Hagalund möter nya Hagalund : en analys av en stämplad stadsdel i Solna

Arbetarstadsdelen Hagalund i Solna byggdes vid förra sekelskiftet och kom tidigt att anses förslummad men har sedan kåkstaden revs på 1960-talet omladdats till kulturhistorisk idyll. Som ett led i miljonprogramsbebyggelsen under tidigt 1970-tal byggdes nya Hagalund vilken snart kom att betraktas som nyslum. Mitt syfte är att analysera olika beskrivningar av gamla och nya Hagalund och undersöka varför en stadsdel kom att stämplas som ful, farlig och olämplig av utomstående men av de boende kom att upplevas som modern, trygg och bekväm. Jag har intervjuat arton personer som bor eller har bott i stadsdelen Hagalund och fått deras sense of place av sitt Hagalundsboende. Flera av familjerna har varit stadsdelen trogna i över 30 år och är in place med Hagalund.

Effektivisering av pulverlackeringslinje med inriktning på fixturer

The project has been oriented for development of fixtures to ateljé Lyktan to provide a more efficiency line. In the year 2012 the company invested in a new coating booth, which leads to opportunities to upgrading the fixtures and also new design. The request is to minimize the area for storage of fixtures, and therefore should fixtures be designed to apply as many articles as possible The priority of products that fixtures have development to has been products that are most frequently coated and new products that don?t have any fixtures. The product families that the project has been having focus on is TIME and FOVEA with RONDO.

Projekt Kibera : att skapa en trygg och inspirerande miljö för fl ickor i slummen genom att öka deras sociala samvaro i vardagen

Kibera är världens näst största slum, livsvillkoren är ofattbara. Allra värst är situationen för flickor som av olika anledningar inte kan eller får gå i skolan och ständigt nedvärderas i samhället. Det finns ett starkt samband mellan flickors begränsade sociala samvaro och deras frånvaro från skolan.  Projektet undersöker hur arkitektur kan skapa en tryggare miljö och öka interaktionen flickor emellan.Mitt projekt är en strategi med det slutliga målet att generera en trygg och inspirerande miljö för flickor, en hållbar utveckling genom social förankring. Strategin handlar om att öka flickornas samvaro i vardagen genom att skapa en gemensam plats för sysslor och möten. En gemensam plats, en station som tar tillvara på klimatets möjligheter och effektiviserar sysslorna, samtidigt som flickorna träffas, utbyter kunskap och delar erfarenheter. I samarbete med olika grupper för flickor och kvinnor som finns i Kibera, kan stationerna byggas på för att innehålla flera olika funktioner.
