Nordic Summer Evening is a theoretical painting, today an important icon of Nordic art from the turn of the century. The purpose of this essay is to analyse the painting, and to investigate and identify its declaration of program, and in a wider context, the emergence of a program of the nationalistic art at the turn of the last century. The essay also investigates how the painting has become more popular throughout the century, and why Americans tend to see the painting as an exposé over a quarrel, filled with sexual tension, while Swedes tend to make a point out of the harmony and stillness of the painting..

Uppsatsen behandlar husen i småstugeområdet Norra Ängby i Bromma, som är ett resultat av den bostadspolitik som bedrevs i Stockholm under 1900-talets första decennier. Området Norra Ängby byggdes ut mellan 1930 och 1938 och är Stockholms största sammanhängande småstugeområde.Uppsatsen diskuterar begreppen egnahem, småstugor och trädgårdsstad. Uppsatsen tar även upp en historik om trångboddheten i staden efter industrialismens framfart och de bostadspolitiska åtgärder som gjordes för att få bukt med bostadsbristen.Området Norra Ängby och dess arkitektur undersöks i fem avslutande fältstudier, med fokus på byggnadernas arkitektur vad avser rumsfördelning och exteriör, med utgångspunkt i rådande byggstilar som Nationalromantik, 20-tals klassicism och funktionalism..

Vad har föreställningar om spelmannen, tradition och Nationalromantik med mitt estetiska uttryck att göra? Genom att undersöka vilka förväntningar och normer som förknippas med folkmusikgenren söker jag svaren på hur dessa påverkar mina konstnärliga uttrycksmöjligheter. En återblick i folkmusikhistorien visar hur folkmusik i olika epoker förknippats med och använts av förespråkare för olika ideologier. Ur ett samtidsperspektiv presenteras sedan hur folkmusik beskrivs idag och vilka röster i debatten som hörs mest och därmed påverkar uppfattningen om vad folkmusik är. Vidare görs en problematisering av identiteten som traditionsbärare och sedan mitt eget förhållningssätt till föreställningar om bilden av spelmannen.

Det här arbetet handlar om en släktmöbel och dess klädsel. Möbeln är en brudpall från 1900-talets början, som användes vid ett bröllop år 1910. Klädseln är ett nytillverkat yllebroderi, men med rötterna från samma tid. Syftet med hela arbetet har varit att söka efter brudpallens ursprung i fråga om stilhistoriskt uttryck, ändamål, uppbyggnad etc. för att sedan kunna söka och välja ett lämpligt broderimönster från samma tid att ha som förlaga till en ny broderad klädsel.

The purpose of this examination is to identify how notions of Swedishness is created artistically, and from where these notions come. My method is to make a study on exhibition catalogues on the theme Swedishness/Nordism, with focus on the contemporary Swedish artist Peter Johansson. With a retrospect of his childhood in Dalecarlia, he investigates a Swedish iconography with it?s roots in national romanticism, which for more than one hundred years has been preserved and exploited of the tourist industry to market Sweden. It?s this monotonous iconography that Johansson deconstructs to make it appear like something else ? namely an iconography based on ethnic purity, which pushes away the foreign and protects the own.

Vargaslätten is a 15 hectare large privet garden in Halland in the south-west of Sweden.In the beginning of the 1990s Gunnar O.Westerberg, the owner of Vargaslätten,commissioned a work from the young landscapearchitect, Rolf Efvergren, to writeVargaslätten ? tillägnad naturen. It was a discribing work of the current status of the gardenand the summer-house of Vargaslätten. Vargaslätten ? tillägnad naturen was acomprehensive work with a detalied inventory of all the plants, the buildings, the descriptionof the surroundings and the history.

This essay is about how the aesir are used as an ideal image of the original Nordic aspects and as a symbol of heroism and pure strength. The main subject of this essay is to look at how this ideal of masculinity is represented in the art produced during the era of romantic nationalism. The choice of focusing on this era in particular is made due to the fact that it was during this time that the modern images of the aesir and the Vikings were made. The purpose of this study is to examine how the ideal of masculinity reflects upon the artistic interpretations of the Norse mythology in a selected group of art work produced during the 1800?s.
