Bibliotekariebilder i dagens platsannonser. En diskursanalys.

The aim of this Masters thesis is to examine the Librarian discourses that can be identified in the job advertisements of today, to examine how the discourses differ and also how these discourses might influence the Librarian profession and its status. The method of investigation is a qualitative analysis of printed sources, using Ernesto Laclaus and Chantal Mouffes discourse theory as well as the theory of professions as a theoretical base. The thesis shows that two discourses can be identified in job advertisements for 2004, one public Librarian discourse and one scientific Librarian discourse. The major difference between the two discourses are work tasks where the public Librarian discourse very often contains areas of responsibility and development work, whereas the scientific Librarian discourse often contains administrative work tasks. Other differences include a great demand for driving licences and an interest in children and youth in the public Librarian discourse, something which is not asked for at all in the scientific Librarian discourse where there is a great demand for knowledge of languages instead.

A number of themes, or ways, in which it is possible to discuss the phenomenon of the Librarian's knowledge, are identified in the texts.

Skolbibliotekarien : Image Profil Identitet

International research has shown that through the involvement of the school library and the school Librarian in the daily school work with the pupils, the pupil´s learning can be increased and reading comprehensions significantly improved. One purpose of this master`s thesis is to study the school Librarian as a brand, representing the school library as well as the school Librarian and whether there is a correlation between different comprehensions of the professional role of the school Librarian. This is done by examining whether there is a difference between a specific Librarian´s own perception of their professional role, compared to the image of the school Librarian among teachers and principals working in the same school district and by comparing the profile the school Librarian expresses with the image that is conveyed through communications via webpage, written and oral information given on services and competences provided by the school Librarian and work carried out by her.A difference of comprehension of the school Librarian´s competence and work, could be part of an explanation as to why the correlation between the involvement of school Librarians in the school work and the improved learning achievements of the pupils has not resulted in the expected measures, regardless of the investments in school Librarians and school libraries. The school Librarians´ school identity could be difficult to establish. Whether or not the profiles and images of the professional role are consistent with each other is a much more manageable purpose which could go a long way of explaining the circumstances of the school libraries. That is the reason why we have examined whether the comprehension the school Librarians have of themselves corresponds with the idea/ conception/ image conveyed to their surroundings, and with the idea/conception/image encompassed by people in their immediate surroundings..

The purpose of this study is to investigate? how a professional Librarian can support the work with pupils, age six to twelve years, in their reading and linguistic development? how the conditions at the school have to be for this to become possible? what kind of attitudes the teachers have, and how they relate to the impact of a Librarian for the pupils reading and linguistic development. The methods used are analyses of steering documents concerning school libraries and analyses of the means of the local school culture. The latter has been carried out by literature studies and through interviews of eight teachers and two school Librarians. The result of the interviews showed a limited insight into how a professional Librarian can support and assist teachers and pupils in the work with reading and linguistic development. They also showed the influence of existing traditions and local school culture for the use of a Librarian?s services, and also how all the teachers, once they have become used to the services a Librarian can provide, now find their support invaluable.

Vem är bibliotekarien? En dammig bokmal eller en informationsexpert? en explorativ undersökning om olika gruppers bild av bibliotekarien.

The aim of this Masters thesis is to explore the image of the Librarian from three groups: Librarians, researchers and directors of staff from industrial companies. The purpose was also to study the image of the future Librarian as the Swedish School of Library and Information Science at the University College of Borås introduces it. As my theoretical framework I used communication theories and marketing theories. I searched answers to the following questions: - Is there any resemblance at all between the common stereotypes of the Librarian and the images given by the participants of the survey? - How do the Librarians view themselves? - What is the image of the Librarian among the researchers who use the services of the library? - What is the image of the Librarian among the directors of staff from the industrial companies? - What is the image of the Librarian given by an educational institution during the basic education? I contacted the participants and asked them to draw a picture of a Librarian and write a short text about the picture.

Varför måste de stora bara bestämma allting? : En studie om barns delaktighet på folkbiblioteket ur barnbibliotekariens perspektiv

A vivid democracy requires participation from those who live in it, including children. Unlike adults, children have special laws and regulations to ensure them their democratic rights. Librarians? decision on what to buy makes an impact to someone else, which puts the Librarian in a hegemonic position. Therefore, the purpose of this bachelor thesis is to, out of the child Librarian?s perspective, view children?s participation at the public library in the matter of purchasing literature.

Lärare och skolbibliotekarie ett udda par som bör dra jämnt. En studie i samarbete på en högstadieskola

This Masters thesis concerns collaboration between teachers and Librarians. Three theoretical perspectives, profession, power and legitimacy, are used to analyse the results of written interviews with eight teachers and one Librarian at a comprehensive school. We did not find evidence of any deeper collaboration between teachers and the Librarian. The effects of profession had little impact on the relation although the involved parties seemed to appreciate differences in education and points of view. The teacher retains power over education and grades while the Librarian holds sway over the physical library and the purchase of books and other media.

Skolbibliotekets verksamheter ? en studie av hur skolbibliotekarier och lärarbibliotekarier prioriterar skolbibliotekets verksamheter utifrån social identitet

Different educational and professional backgrounds play important roles in how school Librarians prioritize activities in the school library. Whether the school Librarian has a background as a teacher or as a Librarian, they influence and apprehend the activities of the school library differently. The aim of this thesis is to find out how the school Librarian looks at his/her commission. What shifts in priorities can be recognized depending on whether the Librarian has training as a teacher or a Librarian. This thesis also analyzes how the two different professional backgrounds justify their priorities in the school library.
