Klimatförändringarnas inverkan på dimensionerande grundvattennivå

Helsingborg has the intention to build a train tunnel south of Knutpunkten. This report investigates the hydro geological aspects of the project. Questions at issue that will be answered: 1. Which parameters affect the Groundwater level? 2. How will these parameters change within 100 years considering climate changes and what will be the consequences on the Groundwater level. According to SMHI climate analysis the climate can change causing increasing precipitation, temperature, and a rising sea level.

Järnets förekomst i grundvattnet i isälvsavlagringar i Dalarna : Bakgrundshalter och rörmaterialets inverkan vid grundvattenprovtagning

A study has been performed that investigates the variation of iron content in Groundwater. The study was initiated by Midvatten AB, which noticed that the iron content in Groundwater samples can vary greatly over small distances. The purpose of this study was to geochemically and geohydrologically determine the factors that influence the content of iron and manganese in Groundwater from a selection of eskers in Dalarna, and determine how to best sample Groundwater with the method used by Midvatten AB. An evaluation was made of how the vertical variation in soil material, water composition, pumping time and pipe material affects the content of iron in Groundwater. Piper diagrams were used to study the relationship between the chemical composition of the Groundwater and the content of iron and manganese in Groundwater samples from the studied areas. The Groundwater from the studied areas was then classified in the Piper diagrams, according to the content of the major ions.

Jämförelse av beräknad och verklig grundvattensänkning vid vägportar

Present master of science thesis has been carried out at the Swedish Road Administration consulting services (Vägverket Konsult) in Karlstad. The purpose of the study is to investigate how well the calculated drawdown of the Groundwater table predicts the actual drawdown when the road and railway gates at the studied sites are built. For this purpose the Groundwater levels at the three bridges were measured during 6 months. The bridges in question are two railway bridges situated in Ölme and Ulvåker and one road bridge crossing a pedestrian and cycling path in Lidköping. In Ölme the calculated area of influence was smaller than the measured one. It differed up to 30 meters, i.e.

Grundvattenpåverkan kring järnvägstunnlar i berg

Rock Groundwater has always caused major problems when tunnelling. Water leaking into tunnels can cause large problems, not only on the construction itself but also on the environment. A continuous water leakage can lead to a declining water supply, and geotechnical problems can occur as subsidence in the ground. Therefore it is of great importance to predict the consequences that can appear in the surroundings due to a declining Groundwater surface. The aim of the study was to investigate different methods for predicting leakage and changes in Groundwater level due to tunnelling excavations in rock. This thesis was performed by comparing mathematical methods, actual Groundwater changes and results from preliminary investigations.Investigations were made for three railway tunnels planned by Botniabanan AB.

Föroreningstransport i grundvatten : En modelljämförelse

This thesis compares different methods for risk assessment of a creosote contaminated site in Vansbro, Dalarna. In a complementary study the importance of using representative data for calibration and validation of stationary Groundwater models is discussed. The time dependency between surface water levels and Groundwater levels on the site in Vansbro is evaluated by step response analysis. The results show that the Groundwater levels reflect only long-term variation in the surface water levels. Hence the use of such long-term means for calibration and validation of the stationary Groundwater models is the only theoretically defendable alternative. As a first step in the comparison of risk assessment methods the degree of contamination is evaluated on the basis of generic guideline values for contaminated soils, developed by the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency.

Utveckling av en HBV/PULS-model med sammanfogade markfuktighets- och responsrutiner

Soil properties affect the chemical composition of soil water. When studying transport of chemical substances through a basin, it is therefore important to know from which soil layer the main part of the runoff is generated. The aim of this study is to develop an HBV/PULSE model with merged soil moisture and response routines, which generates good approximations of Groundwater levels. It should be possible to extend the model to simulate transport of substances and take into account which soil layer the Groundwater level is currently in. The hydrological version of HBV/PULSE is used since there is no need to account for pH or alcalinity at this stage.

Grundvattenskydd och markanvändning i tre olika länder- effekter för miljö och samhälle

AbstractDrinking water is an important resource on Earth both for humans and animals. Although most of the surface is covered by water only a small quantity is available as drinking water. Our manner of living creates a lot of pollution which has an environmental impact. Groundwater has a protracted turnover time in the soil and it can take many years before the effects of human impact are detected. The Swedish environmental object is ?Good Groundwater quality? which aims to provide a safe and sustainable supply of drinking water today and in the future.

Miljödammars funktion som kväve- och fosforfälla samt som bevattningsdamm i Sölvesborgs kommun

A study was made on four environmental ponds in Sölvesborgs municipality. The reason forthis was to see if the ponds had fulfilled some of the questions that was mentioned in theproject ?Rädda Hanöbukten?. The questions were as following; do the environmental pondsdecrease the leakage of nitrogen and phosphorus into Hanöbukten, do the ponds decrease theuse of Groundwater in Sölvesborgs Municipality and are there any restrictions on what thewater in the ponds is allowed to be used for. In order to answer these questions aquestionnaire was made and interviews were held.

Hydraulisk och termisk grundvattenmodellering av ett geoenergilager i Stockholmsåsen

Geothermal energy can be extracted from an aquifer, where the Groundwater is used as heatexchange medium while heat and cold are stored in the surrounding material in the aquiferand to some extent in the Groundwater. Application of aquifer storage for the use ofgeothermal energy is mainly used in large scale facilities and is limited to sites with suitableaquifers in the form of ridges, sandstone and limestone aquifers.Löwenströmska hospital in the municipality of Upplands Väsby, north of Stockholm, islocated nearby the northern part of the Stockholm esker. This means that it can be profitableand environmentally beneficial for the hospital to examine the possibilities of aquifer storagein the esker material next to its property. The purpose of this master thesis has been to investigate if geothermal energy storage with aseasonal storage of heat and cold can be applied within Löwenströmska hospital?s propertyarea using Groundwater modeling. A hydraulic Groundwater model was constructed inMODFLOW based on a simplified conceptual model of the Groundwater system.

Hårdhetsvariation i grundvatten längs Badelundaåsen mellan Leksand och Avesta

Water hardness indicates the concentration of calcium and magnesium ions in water. Water with high concentrations of these ions is described as hard water and water with low concentrations is described as soft water. Water that is too hard or too soft can lead to technical and economical problems. In collaboration with Midvatten AB, Groundwater hardness in the Badelunda esker between Leksand and Avesta has been mapped, and an attempt has been made to explain the variations. For this purpose, different GIS programs, such as ArcView, ArcInfo, IDIRISI, and one geochemical modelling program, PHREEQC, has been used.

Ämnestransport med grundvatten i hydrogeologiska typmiljöer

Certain types of waste, e.g. bottom ash originating from municipal solid waste incineration (MSWI bottom ash) can be used as road construction materials. A potential problem is the possibility of substances leaching out of the road and spreading in the surrounding Groundwater. The aim of this master?s thesis is to conclude whether hydrogeological type settings can be employed to, based on local conditions, provide an estimate of the probable spreading of these substances in the surrounding Groundwater, and whether certain types of soils can be identified as being less suitable for the localization of a MSWI bottom ash road. A hydrogeological type setting is defined as a mappable unit with similar hydrogeological properties.

Grundvattenmodellering i Badelundaåsen

Over an extended period of time there have been plans to establish a shared facility in Lennheden to extract Groundwater from the Badelunda esker to provide drinking water for the cities of Borlänge and Falun. The city of Falun is dissatisfied with the quality of its drinking water and the city of Borlänge is concerned about the risk of contamination of its existing Groundwater supply at its current location. To provide a basis for a decision on this issue, the company Midvatten AB has been commissioned to perform hydrogeological investigations in the area of Lennheden. The purpose of this thesis is to design a functional Groundwater model of the area between Lennheden, place of planned extraction, and Övre Tjärna, place of existing extraction, to get a better understanding of the Groundwater situation in the area. A Groundwater model enables simulations of different scenarios in risk assessment and contaminant transport. The aim of the thesis is that the model can be used as an aid in Midvatten?s investigations in Lennheden and that it also can be used in future projects in the area. The model has been made in Processing Modflow 5.3 and encompasses an area of 19,5 × 11 km along the Badelunda esker and the river Dalälven between Djurmo and Frostbrunnsdalen.

Utvärdering av koldioxidmätaren Vaisala GMP343 samt sambandet mellan grundvattennivå och koldioxidavgång från torvjordar

The research group Soil and Water Management at the department of Soil and Environment at theSwedish University of Agricultural Sciences in Uppsala are studying greenhouse gas emissions fromcultivated peat soils. To measure carbon dioxide emissions from peat soils in the field the researchgroup are now using two portable carbon dioxide meters (Vaisala GMP343). For practical reasons, they plan to acquire a new type of automated field meter. The aim of this study is to evaluate thepresent meters to see how environmental conditions and instrument settings affect the results, which is meant to facilitate the introduction of the new field meter when the meters needs to becompared. As a part of the study the relationship between Groundwater level and carbon dioxideemissions from peat soils will be investigated. The evaluation of the two carbon dioxide meters was made by connecting them to one single airtightsystem, with the aim of creating identical measurement environments.

Kartering av markföroreningar inom Skutskärs Bruk samt utvärdering av spridningsrisker enligt Naturvårdsverkets MIFO fas 2

With the prospect of future construction on the Skutskär Pulp Mill property, Stora Enso Fine Paper has initiated an investigation of soil contaminants and a risk assessment of these contaminants. A soil and Groundwater investigation has therefore been conducted on an open area of about 16 000 square meters, situated between the current wood room and digester house. To be able to integrate this study into an investigation for the whole industrial property, the study has been carried out as a phase 2 study according to the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency?s Methods of Inventories of Contaminated sites (MIFO).The site investigation has involved soil and Groundwater sampling, together with the analysis of heavy metals and organic contaminants. The degree of hazard posed by the contaminants, the level of contamination, the potential for migration of the contaminants, as well as the degree to which protection of human health and the environment is required in the area, have been weighed together for an overall risk assessment of the area with regard to human health and the environment. The investigated area was built up by filling in the coastal waters.

Hållbar vattenförsörjning i områden med vattenbrist : Sustainable water supply solutions for areas affected by water shortage

In some coastal areas in Sweden water shortage sometimes appears because the withdrawal of Groundwater is greater than the Groundwater recharge. It creates a situation where the available Groundwater is insufficient to support residents and businesses with drinking water. The high withdrawal of Groundwater also creates a risk for saltwater intrusion to drinking water wells. The problem most commonly occurs during the summer when the Groundwater recharge is low, but the population is high, due to tourism and summer residents. The purpose of this study was to investigate how local water supply in areas affected by water shortage can be solved as sustainable as possible. The work was divided into three parts where the first part comprised of a literature review on water systems in which four different options were investigated: artificial Groundwater recharge, rainwater harvesting, desalination and water reuse.
