Hur företagskulturen påverkar designers arbetssätt : En fallstudie på ett IT-företag

Through a case study at an IT company we have attempted to ascertain how a company's organizational culture affects its Designers' way of working. By examining what ?type? of Designers the employees are and how this is reflected in their work, we hope to have correctly determined what their organizational culture looks like and thereby have achieved a plausible result in our study.Aside from two interviews with the company's CEO, we also performed eight observations at the company, where we tried to blend in with the employees, to better determine their way of working together.We have found that the Designers' trust in their own instincts has led them to rarely act on feedback from clients ? they only pick out the proposals which have a ?mainstream? potential. We have also discovered that their design approach is something they don't feel inclined to discuss amongst themselves. As it is often ?indescribable?, they go with their intuition and unspoken design conventions..

Samspel mellan programmerare och designers: I ett danskt dataspelföretag

Syftet med denna uppsats var att analysera hur samspelet såg ut mellan spelDesigners och spelprogrammerare samt att analysera hur konflikter hanterades.Denna uppsats var av kvalitativ art och baserades på fyra intervjuer med två Designers och två programmerare.Det visade sig att det rådde bra kommunikation på företaget mellan Designers och programmerare, men att det är vissa konflikter som ändå fanns kvar. En bidragande orsak till en försämring av samspelet var att Designers och programmerare inte kan beskriva varandras arbete.En konflikt som togs upp i arbetet var att Designers och programmerare pratar två helt skilda språk. Detta har inneburit att yrket teknikartist har vuxit fram för att länka samman parterna. Teknikartistens intåg i dataspelsbranschen visade sig vara relativt nytt och det kan bli betydelsefullt framöver för att stärka samspelet..

Utvecklingsprocesser utifra?n ett designperspektiv

Studien utreder vilka problem som föreligger vid agila- och vattenfallsbaserade utvecklingsmetoder samt presenterar förslag på hur dessa problem kan komma att lösas. För att besvara dessa frågor har djupgående semistrukturerade intervjuer med Designers med erfarenheter av metoderna intervjuats. Intervjumaterialet har transkriberats, kodats och analyserats i syfte att kartlägga de problem som finns. I de intervjuer som genomförts med vattenfallsDesigners har det uttryckts problem med att metoden upplevts som långsam, tungdokumenterad och att relationen med utvecklarna ansetts som komplex. De agila Designers har uttryckt problem med att mer efterforskning krävts.

The final stage of a Designers work is always a bit tricky. Design is an abstract phenomenon and no one can tell when a design is really finished. The design process that Designers work within has been thoroughly studied but cannot be truly mapped with strict constraints which the designer can follow to succeed. Therefore, in this paper we take a look at the final stage in the design process. The main goal is to get more knowledge and highlight key factors about what Designers face when they are about finish their design or what forces them to leave a project that can stay in development for eternity.

Spindeln mellan teknik och människa : En studie om hur interaktionsdesigner beskriver sitt yrke

In this bachelor thesis we have studied how interaction Designers describe their profession. The research material is based on nine interviews with interaction Designers. Questions cover areas such as interaction design tasks, what abilities they consider important, how they describe their relationship to the users, and cooperation with colleagues. We have analyzed the results using key terms such as habitus, field, and capital, as described by sociologist Pierre Bourdieu. The interviewees express humanistic views, and ask for more cooperation between interaction Designers, as well as other people within the field of IT production.

The ways Designers work with craftsmen in other countries can vary alot,but still there are many similarities. In this study we make comparisonsbetween a number of projects involving three different Designers and artisansin other countries and parallel that to our own work in South Africa.What we have seen is that there is some common denominators betweenthe different projects that are being taken care of in different ways.Some things that commonly attract the Designers seem to be the skills ofthe craftsmen, as well as their colouring, patterns and materials. A furthercommon denominator in the projects is that people?s perception of qualityhas become an important issue. The products that are being developedare often sold in the country of the designer, and therefore a needto insure that the quality of the products is up to the standards expectedin that certain country has occurred.

This paper examines and summarizes rules, guidelines and methods for how an e-commerce site should be designed, which elements it should contain and where these should be placed. Our approach consists of two phases. First we comprise relevant research within the target area. This is then divided into logical themes and is used as a foundation for an interview guide, which will be used in the second phase. After this, in the second phase, we conduct qualitative interviews with Designers that are actively working with design of e--?commerce  sites.

Commissioned for this report is Ramboll, Bridge and Tunnel Unit in Stockholm. Theidea throughout the work has been to primarily help bridge Designers compilingadvice and instructions on how fatigue verification for railway bridges in reinforcedconcrete shall be performed under the new rules, the Eurocodes.After the introduction of the Eurocodes in 2011 has major problems emerged amongDesigners around Sweden. In some areas, it differs in the calculation rules comparedwith rules from the Swedish Transport Administration and the National Board ofHousing, Building and Planning calculation. Fatigue verification is one area where thenew calculation rules are different from the past.A large part of the report has been to interpret and find the relevant information inthe Eurocodes concerning fatigue. When questions or doubts have surfaced, this hasbeen discussed with Elisabeth Helsing at the Swedish Transport Administration andbridge Designers at Ramboll.The result is a report where the structure is organized in the way that the bridgeDesigners can move from cover to cover and realize that fatigue verification in realityfollows the same order as the report's sections.

A case study of professional interaction Designers' usage of design materials was conducted. Five interviews were performed in order to gain insight in the systems used by Designers, how these work, how they collaborate within them, and what they think of recent research about them. Design studios allow collaboration for several users at once. Digital material (mockups, pictures, etc.) are commonly used, but needs to be made analog, e.g. printed, to be usable in the design studio environment.

The study addresses the field of design as a profession and examines the views on strategic management in a design project among nine selected graphic Designers. The graphic Designers who participate in the study are permanently employed at design companies in Stockholm. The study has a qualitative approach and the method is based on face-to-face interviews. We have chosen to examine this subject due to the opinion among professionals that strategic management in the design industry has increased during the last decades. There is a belief that strategic management in some cases are used too extensively as a way for design companies to make more money.

Identitesskapande med hjälp av externa designers

Outsourcing är ett begrepp som blir allt vanligare i företag. Ett vanligt argument för att man väljer att outsourca vissa delar av verksamheten, är att det ger en möjlighet till att fokusera på kärnverksamheten och därmed uppnå större konkurrenskraft. Studien syftar till att undersöka hur externa Designers kan skapa en visuell identitet på produkten, samt vilka faktorer är viktiga då externa Designers ersätter en in-house designavdelning. En kvalitativ fallstudie har genomförts på DUKA, Axcent of Scandinavia och Gant. I dessa fall har alla på något sätt kontrakterat ut antingen hela eller delar av sin designverksamhet.
