The purpose of this master thesis is to examine if Booktalk is a good method for stimulating reading based on interviews and observations with two classes of pupils in the intermediate level of the Swedish nine-year compulsory school. Our aim is also to study the reading environment regarding of Aidan Chambers' factors about what is indispensable for a good environment for the children. The factors are: Time for reading, time for reading aloud, the stock of books and conversations about books. The study is based on interviews with 38 pupils, two Booktalkers and two teachers in two different cities. It also contains two observations of Booktalk.

This masters thesis examines the reading environment during "Booktalk", with special reference to a reading project in compulsory comprehensive and upper secondary schools in Stockholm. The main question is: What does the reading environment look like during Booktalk? Three questions are asked: Which factors affect the reading environment? Which are the conditions concerning book selection and book availability? How do the librarians perform as enabling adults? Different groups of pupils, together with their teachers and the librarian, are studied during Booktalks in five schools. The study uses a qualitative approach, which takes the form of open observations during 15 Booktalks and one interview with the two librarians involved in the project and studies of literature. The theoretical framework is Aidan Chambers theory relating to reading environment and its effects upon the reading process.

Denna studie är utförd inom lärarutbildningen och kursen Språk och språkutveckling. Syftet med arbetet har varit att undersöka hur elever i år 1 agerar under boksamtal och vilket lärande som gestaltas i dessa samtal. Sex elever i år 1 har deltagit i en serie boksamtal som planerats och genomförts med inspiration av den sokratiska samtalsmodellen (Lindström, 2000). Studiens resultat har belysts med tre teoretiska perspektiv; ett didaktiskt perspektiv, ett receptionsteoretiskt perspektiv samt ett läsförståelseteoretiskt perspektiv. Tre kategorier av läsförståelsestrategier identifierades; att fråga, att göra inferenser och att läsa.

The purpose of this Master's thesis is to study how children's and youth librarians mediate non-fiction books in public libraries. Our overarching research question is as follows: to which extent, how, and for what reasons do children's and youth librarians mediate non-fiction? We have chosen to limit our study to the practice of Booktalking.In order to answer questions on extent we conducted a quantitative survey of Booktalking children's and youth librarians in Skåne. To answer our other questions on behaviour and attitudes we conducted observations and interviews with six librarians who include non-fiction in Booktalks for children in primary school. As a way to study behaviour we examined librarians' selection criteria and methods.

My thesis is a study of how the perception of Booktalk aimed at kids and youngsters in the Swedish educational system has changed between 1932 and 2007. A discursive reading of articles in the magazine Biblioteksbladet provides the basis for my investigation. The thesis argues that an older "authoritaritan" and "traditional" discourse has given way for a more modern, "anti-authoritaritan" and "lust"-directed discourse. The older discourse was designed to make sure that young people were provided with a certain well-defined quantity of "approved" literature. The new discourse stresses the importance of fostering kids and youngsters with a positive and enthusiastic attitude towards reading in general.

The aim of this thesis is to describe how to work with the development of language by reading aloud. I have chosen to look at the reading aloud project "Boksnurran" Book Wheel to see if it has influenced the daily work with reading in preschool. My questions are: How do they work with reading in preschool? Is the reading environment suitable? How do the staff describe their Booktalks? What problems do they encounter? What can be improved? The thesis is based on qualitative interviews. Those interviewed have participated in "Book Wheel".

The problem presented in this masters thesis is: How can pedagogical theory be used to illuminate and analyse attitudes of librarians in reading promotion activities for children and young people? The aim is to investigate librarians pedagogical role and attitudes in reading promotion activities for children and young people. The following questions are asked: · How can the pedagogical role of librarians be understood on the basis of different pedagogical perspectives? · How do librarians describe their pedagogical role in reading promotion activities for children and young people? · Is there a relation between pedagogical perspectives and the ways in which reading promotion methods are developed by librarians? Reading promotion methods investigated are Booktalk, discussions on reading and summer reading challenges for children and young people. The methods used in the study are literature studies, qualitative interviews and observations.

Syftet med studien är att utforska och förstå de resonemang lesbiska par begagnar sig av i beslutsfattandet om reproduktionsmetod. Här ingår även berättelser kring de erfarenheter paren har av möten med professionella inom svensk sjukvård och myndighetsutövning. Studien består av tio intervjuer med lesbiska par, vilka har fått barn inom den offentliga sjukvården sedan detta blev tillgängligt den 1 juli år 2005. Materialet har analyserats med hjälp av kvalitativ metod i det diskursanalytiska fältet.Resultatet visar att parens beslut har föregåtts av en process där alternativ har vägts mot varandra. Här återfinns två typer av tolkningsrepertoarer där svensk sjukvård har fått företräde på grundval av externa omständigheter.

Syftet med studien är att undersöka hur pojkar med ett svagt läsintresse upplever boksamtal samt om det främjar deras läsintresse. För att få en uppfattning om hur eleverna upplevde boksamtalen så har jag genomfört kvalitativa intervjuer med eleverna. Urvalet gick till så att samtliga elever i den klass som jag själv undervisar i fick ett erbjudande om att få vara med i ett boksamtalsprojekt under hösten 2009. Det huvudsakliga kriteriet för att delta i projektet/studien var att man väldigt sparsamt eller aldrig hade läst någon form av skönlitteratur på sin fritid under de senaste åren. Sju pojkar visade sitt intresse och under hösten 2009 genomförde vi, de sju eleverna och jag, boksamtal kring fantasyboken Över näktergalens golv ? Sagan om klanen Otori ? av Lian Hearn.1      Jag har utgått ifrån Chambers modell för boksamtal.
