The aim of this Masters´ thesis is to examine parenthood, gender and equality. The analysis is based on the novel Bitterfittan. The primary theoretical points of departure are Judith Butler?s theory about doing gender and Yvonne Hirdman?s theory about the gender system, the hierarchical order and the separation of the sexes. I use Lisbeth Bekkengen?s thesis in which the nuclear family is seen as an institution which is upheld by two structures; that is the social relationships man-woman and parent-child, and also by two discourses; on the one hand a notion that fathers and mothers are principally different and on the other hand the child focus.

This thesis investigates gender equality at a few Swedish elementary school libraries, and how school librarians at these libraries work with gender equality issues. It is a semi-structured interview study conducted with staff at seven elementary school libraries. Several policy documents state that the school should be a gender-equal environment, but previous research shows that there is still a lack of gender equality, and that staff often treat boys and girls differently. It also shows that boys and girls are often portrayed in a gender-stereotypical way in children?s literature.

A B S T R A C TP U R P O S E / A I M : The main objective of this essay is to investigate the difference of visual representation between girls and boys in two mail order catalogues - Ellos and La Redoute. I want to examine how girls and boys interact in the pictures of the catalogues and what kind of activities are going on. Do these activities differentiate between the girls and the boys? Does the representation differ if the children are in a group or by themselves? A second objective is to compare these representations between the two catalogues.M A T E R I A L / M E T H O D : Two mail order catalogues are used, Ellos (Swedish) and La Redoute (originally French). The material consists of 345 pictures of children.

The purpose of this study is to examine sex/gender relations amongst staff in public libraries who have taken part in projects related to information technology. This is done through e-mail surveys and telephone interviews with staff who have participated in the development of the two library websites Mina bibliotek and Biblioteket.se regarding their experiences. The theoretical basis for the analysis is two gender theoretical perspectives with reference to technology. The first perspective is represented by Yvonne Hirdman?s theory concerning the gender system, in which women and men are kept apart and in which there is always a hierarchy where men are higher up, and Hanna Westberg-Wohlgemuth?s theory concerning sex marking of job-tasks.

Syftet med denna uppsats är att undersöka hur samhällets konstruktion av genus påverkar enkvinna i hennes roll som musiker. På vilket sätt upplevs och hanteras genusrelateradebegränsningar och vad blir konsekvenserna?Jag har i studien använt mig av observationer och intervjuer med två olika band, ett beståendeav tjejer och ett med killar. De har alla delat med sig av erfarenheter och tankar kring problemde upplever i en musikalisk diskurs. Resultatet visar att det finns ett flertal likheter mellanbanden, inte minst när det kommer till att använda musik som ett identitetsskapande verktyg.Tydligt är att problemen tjejerna upplever, alla är förknippade med deras könstillhörighet,medan killarna snarare upplever åldern vara det största problemet inom musikbranschen.Resultatet visar också att studiens kvinnliga informanter blir negativt särbehandlade och mötsav fördomar.

Queen Kristina of Sweden (1626-1689) was in many ways an interesting, fascinating but also a very complicated woman, who has been studied widely by historians and other scholars throughout the years. However, there are few people who have considered the queens attitude towards the male norm which characterize Sweden, and most of Europe, during the seventeenth century.My purpose with this essay is therefore to apply the historian and gender expert Yvonne Hirdman´s theory about the gender system and the hierarchical order, where the male is the norm and representative of what is considered to be normal in the society, on literature regarding Queen Kristina of Sweden. The historical method of this essay will be historiography, as a result of the fact that my study is based on other historians and scholars research. Moreover, my intention is to include Kristina´s entire life in Sweden, from her birth as far as to her abdication from the Swedish throne and study this through the gender perspective introduced above. With this mentioned my essay therefore is named Against All Odds.

Kamratposten is a swedish magazine aimed at youth aged 8-14. They write about almost everything that concerns youth, all the way from dealing with loneliness to animals and celebrities. This study concentrates at how they write about love. With a qualitiative narrative analysis of the 12 articles that concerns love from the 2013 issues of Kamratposten, I have tried to answer the questions: - What narratives about love are being constructed in Kamratposten 2013?- How do they construct males, females and gender in their articles about love?What I found was that the hetero normativity, or the heterosexual matrix as Judith Butler calls it, was very strong in the articles.

In our essay there are four questions that we are going to answer.- Who took the initive to start Eugeniahemmet and how did it affect the activity?- Which view had the society on the children who lived on Eugeniahemmet?- How did the work with the children look like?- Which view had the staff, in Eugeniahemmet, on the children?The method that is being used in this essay is trying to analyses what the material tells us about the view on the children and how the work with the children lookt liked in Eugeniahemmet.The theory that we use is about Michel Focaults look on madness. Focault says that a person who is mad dosen?t have a connection between body and soul and that creates hallucinations witch leeds to madness.

The purpose of this study is to examine how pupils in high school see on the subject violence, and see how their experience of the subject is. The purpose of this study is also to see how common violence is belong juveniles and to examine their attitudes among the subject. We will in our examine and research among violence in the Swedish schools get an insight of how the violence in the school looks like and how wide spread violence really is. We want threw our objective sight and by using quantitative and qualitative interview methods give you readers an insight to the daily school world, we want to find out how the pupils themselves experience the school environment and what cautions teachers and other staff take to reduce this problem. Our main question is: ? What kind of vision do the pupils have on violence in school, and what can be a factor to the increasing violence in the schools of Sweden.

The aim of this paper is to describe, visualise- and analyse media’s discursive representations of female politicians in Swedish printed media. The focus of the analysis is to show if, and how these images can be understood and interpreted in terms of a socially constructed gender stereotyped suborder. The paper takes it's theoretical and methodological departure in the discourse analysis, which is combined with feminist political theory. Feminist political theory is concretised in the use of what Yvonne Hirdman calls the "gender system" which arranges the sexes into their respective genders and is based upon two rules/principles/logics: 1) the rule of distinctive separation, and 2) the male norm. Closely related to the aim of the paper lies also the critical theoretic assumption that people has to be aware of their own part in the production and reproduction of the discourse in order to change make a change.

Syftet med denna studie är att ta reda på om, och i så fall hur, en eventuell genusordning kan ta sig uttryck i en bestämd till synes könsneutral lek i skolans undervisning i idrott och hälsa, bland elever i årskurs fyra och fem. För att svara på syftet använde vi oss av följande frågeställningar; Uttrycks en hierarkisk genusordning, även i tillsynes könsneutrala lekar i skolämnet idrott och hälsa? Och hur tar den sig i så fall uttryck? För att svara på detta utfördes sju stycken, femtio till sextio minuter långa observationer på fyra sydskånska skolor. Observationerna, i vilka vi i varierande grad agerade deltagande och ickedeltagande, planerades och utfördes under en lektion i idrott och hälsa i vardera grupp: en grupp i årskurs fyra i och sex grupper årskurs fem. Uppsatsens teoretiska utgångspunkt beskrivs i Yvonne Hirdman samt R.W Connells socialkonstruktivistiska och feministiska tankar om samhällets kulturella genusordning. En ordning där normen är hegemoni där män och maskulinitet är överställda kvinnor och femininitet.

Sammanfattning Det övergripande syftet med min examensuppsats (som slutlig produkt) är att öka kunskap kring genus samt att inspirera till läsarens vidare fördjupning i genusfrågor. Som blivande studie- och yrkesvägledare tycker jag att det är extra viktigt att vara medveten om genus och dess påverkan då jag ska vägleda varje sökande utifrån hans/hennes individualitet. Att vara medveten om genus gör mig uppmärksam på de föreställningar kring genus som jag själv har och hjälper mig således i mitt professionella förhållningssätt. Syftet med detta examensarbete är att ur ett genusperspektiv beskriva hur ungdomar ser på olika yrken, med särskild fokus på genus och status. Syftet har brutits upp i ett antal frågeställningar och en stor tyngd har lagts på att beskriva skillnader mellan könen. The purpose of this thesis was to examine the ways in which the constructions of heterosexuality and gender in three Disney movies about princesses affect the power relations between men and women in the movies, and how discourses on gender and heterosexuality have changed over time. Research questions were:How do characters in the movies talk about gender and heterosexuality?How does the interplay between gender and heterosexuality affect the power relations between men and women in the movies?What are the likenesses and differences between movies from different time periods?Discourses were mapped out using a model based on Ernesto Laclau and Chantal Mouffe?s political theories. These discourses were then analyzed with a theoretical framework consisting of Yvonne Hirdman?s concept of gender system and gender contracts, Judith Butler?s view on the heterosexual matrix and an understanding of power relations based on Michel Foucault.

Denna uppsats studerar vilka könsmönster som finns i Jokkmokks kommuns skolor och hur dessa ser ut. Genom en teori som Yvonne Hirdman har om hur genus skapas och vidmakthålls ges ett svar på uppsatsens syfte. Den går i stort ut på att vi kan se en process genom tiderna som kännetecknas av två logiker. Den första är att mannen och kvinnan isärhålls. De tillskrivs olika egenskaper, de ska göra olika sysslor och de ska befinna sig på olika platser.

The aim of my study is to analyse the female character in Mödrar som vargar, (Mothers As Wolves), which is a collection of poems written in 1972.The analysis is divided into four parts. First I analyse the figures of speech of the female ?I? in the poems. In the second part I`m dealing with how she acts and relates to men.
