Reagerar grisar immunologiskt mot foderproteiner? :
The aim of this study was to detect antibodies in swine serum against proteins in soy beans, wheat, oat and barley. Two methods were used: agar gel immunodiffusion test (AGID), and SDS-PAGE followed by immunoblotting. The sera examined originated (I) from piglets younger than one week (negative control), (II) pigs from a feed trial with soy bean in a herd with PMWS, and (III) pigs inoculated with Brachyspira hyodysenteriae and Escherichia coli after being fed with soy. The AGID-test was negative concerning all examined sera which were analysed against proteins in soy bean, wheat, oat and barley. In the experiment based on immunoblot antibodies were demonstrated within all three groups of examined pigs.
The WT1-gene ? its role in tumourigenesis and prospects for developing a vaccine
The WT1 gene is a complex gene originally known to suppress cancer in kidneys. Studies of WT1 knockout mice have confirmed the important role of WT1 in the pathogenesis of Wilms? tumour, a tumour which counts for 95% of all childhood renal tumours. In that case the WT1 gene acts as a tumour suppressor gene. Subsequent research has shown that the WT1 gene in many other cases acts as an oncogene, e g in leukemia or lung cancer (even though these cancer forms can emerge as a result of many other aetiological factors).
Nutrition - ett komplext fenomen i samband med höftfraktur
Lågt protein- och energiintag är vanliga kännetecken hos höftfrakturspatienter. Under sjukhusvistelsen fortsätter ofta det otillräckliga intaget, vilket kan utgöra ett hinder för den funktionella återhämtningen. Syftet med denna studie är att belysa nutritionens betydelse för tillfrisknandet efter en höftfraktur och undersöka vilken roll sjuksköterskan har i detta sammanhang. Följande frågeställningar eftersträvas att besvaras: Hur påverkar patientens nutritionsstatus tillfrisknandet efter en höftfraktur? Vilken roll har sjuksköterskan i detta eventuella samband? Teoretisk referensram för arbetet är Doris Carnevalis Dagligt liv ? Funktionellt hälsotillstånd ? modellen.
Immunologiska mekanismer i patogenesen vid kronisk exacerbativ uveit hos häst
Kronisk exacerbativ uveit (ERU) är en av de vanligare ögonsjukdomarna hos häst och drabbar hästnäringen svårt. Det är idag accepterat att sjukdomen är immunologiskt medierad och syftet med denna litteraturstudie är att klargöra de immunologiska mekanismer som ligger bakom sjukdomsförloppet. Detta genom att utreda vad som inducerar uveit och hur återfall av uveit uppkommer samt de autoimmuna mekanismer som är aktiva vid sjukdomen. Grundbulten i ett friskt öga är dess upprätthållande av ett immunprivilegium då en inflammation skulle kunna förstöra strukturer som inte kan repareras igen. Om de barriärer som upprätthåller ögats immunstatus bryts tillåts immunförsvarceller nå ögats strukturer, något som observeras vid ERU.
Molecular testing of raspberry plants infected with tomato black ring virus
Nematode-transmitted plant viruses (such as nepoviruses) cause great economically losses in commercially important plants such as tomatoes, grapevines and raspberries all over the world. To avoid spread of the viruses the interest in mapping the viruses has increased. One of the important nepoviruses infecting European red raspberries (Rubus idaeus) is Tomato black ring virus (TBRV). TBRV has earlier been confirmed in raspberry samples from Belarus by ELISA and the aim of this bachelor degree project was to confirm these results by amplifying, cloning and sequencing the coat protein (CP) gene of the virus. In total eight viral cDNA samples, from two different raspberry samples, were amplified and sequenced.

Maize for silage has been used as fodder in different parts of the world for a long time and has recently become more common also in Sweden. Our cold climate has been a problem as maize is very sensitive to low temperatures and frost. With new varieties and better techniques for cultivation it is now possible to grow maize in the southern and middle parts of Sweden. As for the north of Sweden the length of the cultivation season is a limiting factor as there are too few days with temperatures of over +10 ºC. Maize is well suited for silage making but oxygen-free conditions are required.

The use of forage maize has increased over the last years. The aim of this litterateur review was to summarize a part of the research that has been conducted on forage maize for growing cattle, including cultivation and conservation of the maize. The forage maize is planted in April or the beginning of May when the temperature in the soil is between 6 and 10°C. Maize needs high temperatures and much water. Maize is harvested in the autumn when the dry matter (DM) is more then 30% or the plants have been exposed to the first frost in the autumn.

Special AT-rich sequence-binding protein1 (SATB1) är ett celltyp-specifikt kärnmatrix-associerat DNA-bindande protein, vilket utgörs av AT-rika DNA sekvenser. Det har tidigare demonstrerats att en annan medlem i SATB-familjen, SATB2, uttrycks på ett vävnadsspecifikt sätt i normal mukosa i nedre mag-tarmkanalen och i CRC. ?-catenin är en intracellulär mediator i Wnt/?-catenin signaleringsvägen, som spelar en viktig roll i kolorektal carcinogenes.

According to several studies, both Swedish and foreign, horse owners generally have inadequate knowledge about horse feeding. The housing systems and feeding routines of today differs in many ways from what horses have adapted to through evolution. Wild horses live in harem herds and roam on large open fields, spending about 60 % of the day grazing, mainly grass and herbs.

CRISPR/Cas-konstruktion som designats för att introducera mutationer genom att klyva ett exon i genen för granulbundet stärkelsesyntas, GBSS. Det visade sig under första delen av arbetet att det ej gick att erhålla transient uttryck i potatis med denna metod.

Background: There have been doping usage as far back as as ancient Greece and around the early 1900s started the doping we have today. In 2008 it was 22,000 men aged 15-54 years old who had any kind of experience with doping in Sweden. The problem of doping use are all over the world and to overcome this problem, we need to work across borders.Objectives: The purpose of this study is to investigate whether there is any connection between the use of supplements and attitude to doping. The study is based on the questions: is there any connection between the use of supplements and positive attitude to doping? is there any connection between the use of supplements/doping substances and high training frequency? and is there different use of supplement/doping substances between girls and boys?Method: A survey in form of a cross-sectional study and a waiting room survey was conducted with 63 respondents of whom 57,1% were women.
The effect of rapeseed oil and palm oil supplement and milking frequency on milk yield and milk fat quality
Milk fat is an important feature in many different milk products and other foodstuffs and it is often crucial for the dairy plants that the milk fat is stable for different manufacturing processes. Lipolysis is the enzymatic degradation of fat and is the one of the causes for an elevated amount of free fatty acids (FFA) in milk. Further, the change in fatty acid (FA) composition in milk can affect the stability of the product and also the manufacturing process. Both internal and external factors, at farm level or at the dairy plants can affect both FA composition and content of FFA. Milking frequency (MF=number of milkings per cow and day) and the composition of feed are two examples of factors generally performed at farm level.
The objective of the present study was to evaluate how FA composition of milk and amount of FFA are influenced by two different ingredients supplemented to concentrate.

The pig industry suffers economical loss due to stillbirths, piglet mortality and low birth weight. This is due to breeding programs that have resulted in larger litters. It has been suggested that these problems are due to the metabolic state of the sow during gestation and the fact that she might not be able to supply her foetuses with enough nutrients for survival and a high and even birth weight. A lot of research has been done to investigate whether body weight and back fat thickness of the sow has any impact on her reproductive traits and if there are any special feed components that improve reproduction. Fibers and unsaturated fatty acids have a positive impact on reproductive traits as long as the sow is fed a sufficient amount of energy and protein during gestation and lactation.
Nutritionens betydelse för sårläkning : en litteraturstudie
Syftet med denna litteraturstudie var att via litteraturen beskriva nutritionens betydelse för sårläkning. Studien genomfördes som en deskriptiv litteraturstudie där metoden bestod av att söka vetenskapliga artiklar i databaserna Medline, Cinahl och Academic Search Elite. Sjutton artiklar valdes ut. Resultatet visade att patienter med bensår eller trycksår i många fall inte når upp till de näringsrekommendationer som finns. Det visade sig vara vanligt att dessa patienter ligger vid gränsen för att vara undernärda.
Förluster i olika ensileringssystem
In Sweden the climate makes it impossible to feed fresh herbage to cattle during many months of the year. During periods when preserved forage must be supplied it is important that this forage is stored in such a way that high quality is retained, both nutritionally and hygienically.
Furthermore, it is essential that losses occurring when handling and storing the forage are kept as low as possible. This study compares storage in tower silos, bunker silos, big bags and bales,estimating dry matter losses as well as losses in metabolizable energy and crude protein that occur during storage. The results show that tower silos, bunker silos and big bags, the systems with the
largest amount of forage and a long feed out period involve larger losses than bales, which are fed out immediately after being opened. As the feed out rate influences the losses, tower silos and bunker silos should be used during the period of the year when the feed out rate is as high as
possible, i.e.
