This study is based on the feminist belief in the importance of a reorganization of the existing gender hierarchy, where women have less power than men. Since news media reflect as well as contribute to create the reality we live in has the purpose with this study been to shed some light on how the gender structure is expressed in Sweden?s most popular television news program. Abstract in EnglishSeventeen students in Creative Writing at the Växjö University who terminated in January 2005 published chosen texts in an anthology by the name Förflyttningar (Movements). The aim of my study is to analyse how they explore and describe our time in the western world. The question is; what is being written now and here?I have chosen as theoretical background the Italian philosopher, Umberto Galimberti, who has made a study of the West from moral and ethical perspective. His conclusion is that we live in a world with seven new sins.

A positive aspect of globalization, from a western viewpoint, is the growing demand of advanced products in China and other developing countries. The construction industry is thriving in China and Swedish companies have taken part in various projects. However the situation have been difficult for some of the companies. The aim of this study is therefore to investigate how strategic and cultural factors affect the potential for Swedish companies to operate on the Chinese construction market. The theoretical framework of the study consists of Porter?s and Kotler?s theories about strategy, and Hofstede?s, Bjerke?s, and Daun?s research about different cultures.

This essay is a discourse and a feminist theoretical analysis that focuses on the alternative discourse that we consider Feminist Initiative to be constitutive of. Our theoretical stance, with base in Laclau and Mouffes discourse theory, builds on the notion that reality is characterised by conflicts between different competing discursive formations and that the social is an endless struggle over the preferential right of interpretation of meaning. More specifically, the essay focuses on the discursive struggle over the meaning of the term politics. It is our understanding that the dominant perception of politics necessarily excludes other understandings, which can according to Eduards, be explained as a consequence of a patriarchal distribution of power that renders the subordination of certain understandings of politics accordingly. Feminist Initiative, as an alternative discourse, can therefore be perceived as a threat to the dominating discourse of politics, which in order to maintain its preferential right of interpretation seek to illegitimatise and depoliticise the politics that the alternative discourse represents.

Here I study some European films from the late 1950?s and the early 1960?s by directors like Fellini, Visconti, Pasolini and Godard. By comparing them with different sociological studies on the subject of female prostitution I try to find out if these films are interested in the actual situation of the prostitute, or in their own image of the phenomenon. Is she an object used for sex or just an sex object? Is she positively or negatively pictured? With realism or as a stereotype? Which aspects of her situation is shown and which ones are concealed? What is the view on the men who actually use her services?It seems natural that different types of films, with different types of prostitutes, illustrates different aspects of what prostitution might be.

The purpose of this master's thesis is to examine how a Swedish public library's collection of books on African history looks like, who the writers are and how Africa and its history areportrayed. The focus of the analysis is on the front and back covers and in some cases on theinformation texts inside the books. The chosen library is the city library of Umeå. The 15books examined were found on the shelf classified as Kp ? the classification for African history according to the Swedish SAB-classification system.

After the fall of the Iron Curtain the European Union was challenged partly by an institutionalized organization of the union, as well as by a socio-psychology awareness concerning the meaning of the European Union. The increase in European integration has generated a political collaboration where national understandings in identities are constantly being exposed for reconstruction. This results in a collective European identity where states are united in diversity.National identities are created when boundaries are set up in a relation to other states. In these identity constructions there are thoughts and questions raised such as who we are and who we are not. Ukraine and the European Union has, during a long time, had diversified preconceptions concerning who has been the others.

 Like adult obesity, childhood obesity prevalence is rising, especially in the Western World.As many as 20 ? 25 percent of the ten years old children are overweight in Sweden. It isimportant to early identify overweight, since overweight could lead into diabetes, mentalsuffering, hypertension and cardiovascular disease.The aim of this study was to describe how nurses experience and perceive the conversationwith parents of overweight children. A qualitative method with a content analysis has beenused. Six nurses working in child health centre have been interviewed.The result shows that the conversation between the nurse and the parents of an overweightchild can be very difficult.

The purpose of this essay is to examine how Elin Wägner depicts the middle-aged woman who lives in the country in Sweden, in the 1920?s. The question at issue is: What problems and what subjects for rejoicing does she raise? My aim is to try to understand the women?s situation, as well as how Elin Wägner describes the situation in her four novels from the 1920?s: Den namnlösa (1922), Silverforsen (1924), Natten till söndag (1926) och Svalorna flyga högt (1929). At the same time I intend to compare the woman of the 1920?s to the situation of women today.I am writing from a feministic literary theory called ?omläsning? according to the description of Gunilla Domellöf.

Denna studie utgår från en poststrukturalistisk teori med feministiskperspektiv och har som syfte att förstå och se olika kontexts betydelse för subjektets skapande för läraren i grundskoleämnet hem- och konsumentkunskap (förkortning HK) Genom reflexiva intervjuer med verksamma HK-lärare och med en poststrukturalistisk analys studeras hur lärarnas upplevelser och erfarenheter kan relateras dels till schablonbilden och dels till hur den genom samtida och historiska texter kan förstås.Studien behandlar en existerande bild eller en schablon om hur läraren i hem och konsumentkunskap, förväntas vara och agera. En bild som beskriver en präktig, lite gnällig och petig kvinna, en praktisk person som lägger sig i det mesta och dessutom är något fyrkantig. I studien framkom att HK-läraren känner till schablonens existens men känner varken igen sig eller kollegor genom den.Med en poststrukturalistisk teori om subjektivisering, identitetsskapande och individuella förhållningssätt diskuteras i studien i vilka olika kontext HK-läraren lärsig att vara. Med andra ord diskuteras i studien på vilka olika historiska och samtida sociala arenor som HK-lärarens subjektivitet är konstruerad..

Längdskidåkning är en fysiskt och psykiskt påfrestande idrott. Ändå satsar många svenska elitskidåkare helhjärtat utan att komma med i landslaget. Studien ville kartlägga vad som motiverar just dessa utövare att fortsätta elitsatsa. Sekundära syften var att söka svar på vad försökspersonerna vill åstadkomma med satsningen, samt vilka fördelar (plus) och nackdelar (minus) som försökspersonerna upplevde med satsningen. Undersökningen genomfördes med kvalitativa semistrukturerade intervjuer och omfattade 13 individer (åtta män, fem kvinnor) i åldern 20-30.

Berättande är etik, både som gestaltande handling, gestaltad handling och i läsningen återgestaltad handling. Enligt författarens intentioner ska berättelsen om Ester ses som en moralisk sådan, och diskussionerna omkring densamme visar att detta stämmer. This thesis aims to investigate how the interests of women are handled in political parties whose opinion programs are based on class interests. The essay constructs a theoretical framework, which shows that the descriptive representation of women is a prerequisite for their subjective interests being represented, however not a guarantee.By studying how the Social Democratic party deals with the demands from the Women's federation, the empirical material sheds light on the theoretical discussion. The study's methodological foundation consists of an ideology critical textual analysis, which focuses on the debate on the design of parental allowance that took place within the party during 2005. During the party's congress the women's federation advocated a proposition for increased individualization of the parental allowance, however the party did not accept it. The analysis confirms the theoretical argumentation that descriptive representation is not a guarantee for the representation of women's interests.

The purpose of this Master?s thesis is to investigate the descriptions of characters and settings in four autobiographies. The main question is: What picture of women and men, of the West and the Orient do these books provide? To answer this question we have formed three sub questions, which are: In what ways are main and minor characters described? In what ways are the key settings, and the Western and Oriental societies described? Which themes are dealt with, and from what points of departure? The theoretical framework is based on a postcolonial theoretical perspective, where the concept of binary opposites and Edward W. Said?s ideas about orientalism are crucial.
