Man has always in one way or another had to take risks in order to survive, but in today's society, voluntary risks increased markedly. It is about both physical and financial risks. The aim of this essay is to problematize what it is for properties that drive people to extreme sports and adventure travel. We want to see how extreme sports performers own picture looks compared to how the media presents them. We have in this essay interviewed two long sailors, a BASE jumper and an ex-mountain climber to see how the performers own picture of reality looks.

Webb 2.0 och sociala medier har bidragit till nya sätt att integrera på webben. Transformeringen från webb 1.0 till webb 2.0 har lett till att även sociala medier och Twitter och sociala medier kommit att bli ett arbetsredskap för journalister. Det är lätt att förbise att journalisterna inte enbart är sändare av information utan även mottagare. Uppsatsen undersöker hur journalister använder sig av Twitter och sociala medier som verktyg för informationshämtning och vad det ger för effekt på journalistikens innehåll. Genom att knyta an till tidigare forskning av Michael Gullikssons rapport Elektroniska källor i dagspressjournalistik: tekniktillgång, teknikanvändning och attityder vid tre redaktioner 1993 och 1996, jämförs användningen av Twitter och Facebook på en landsortstidning, Söderhamns-Kuriren, med en rikstäckande nyhetstidning, Dagens Nyheter. Kvalitativa intervjuer har genomförts skriftligt med tre journalister vardera på respektive nyhetsredaktion. Uppsatsens resultat visar att journalisterna använder sociala medier som arbetsverktyg i allt större utsträckning.

Cover Story is a project, which students at Lillholms - and Ekholms School worked in during spring and fall of 2009. Several school subjects were integrated in project; social studies, art and Swedish, to empower the students to create, implement and design a magazine. The purpose of the project was to give the students the opportunity to fantasize about the future and their dreams by creating their very own Cover Story. During the project I realized that the student?s selection of magazine genre had a direct relation to the gender of the students themselves.

Advertising is something that we get in touch with on a daily basis and more or less everywhere. Advertising is used in different mediums, such as magazines, television, radio, internet, cellphones et.c. The aim of the present study is to find out if there are any recurrent dissimilarities how advertising is constructed among the mediums regarding rhetorical and semiotical theories. Two different mediums have been chosen for a comparison, printed advertisments versus internetbanners. The study has been based on a total of ten qualitative image analyses.

The purpose with this master´s thesis is to examine how helth and unhelthy in the Swedish magazines Topphälsa, Fitnez Magazine, hälsa and I Form. The study is made from a discourse analytical approach and text and pictures are analysed together. The governmentality-perspective is also used as a theoretical frame. Power and govern are two inportant conceptions for this paper. Some of the main characteristics of the material are the double messages, the division in the categories "we" and "them" and the personal address to the reader.

Sebastian Brännvall har utforskat hur man kan förpacka information så att denna sticker ut och väcker intresse hos en bredare massa.

This study explores how online television works and how it is integrated with social media such as Facebook, Twitter and blogs. Through three qualitative interviews with representants from different fields of work regarding online television, we have concluded how online television is being used in Sweden today and concludes with examples of what the future of online television could look like. Representatives from the following companies have been interviewed: SBS Media Group Sweden, Strix Television and Mediamätning i Skandinavien. The use of social media for marketing of online television is a fact for the companies in this study. However, the result of the study shows that theres room for development in the integration between online television and social media.

This masters thesis looks at the reception of the beat generation in six given American magazines spanning through the years 1957-1961. The study is basically one of literaty reception. The aim is to see how and if the institution of literature handed the beat generation an identity to go along with their arts. With the use of discourse analysis we have pointed out certain characteristics in the six articles that have been a part of building up an image of the beat generation as a whole. By dividing the result into the two categories social and literary practice we can clearer see what significants were used to create the beat generation.

This thesis is an investigation of Iranian immigrants and their use of libraries in Sweden. It isbased on a combination of a qualitative and a·quantitative method.Using a qualitative method, I give an outline of the history of lran from ancient times up to the present, as well as the different ethnological groups in Iran and their cultures. The main objective of this part is to clarify the contrasts between Iranian and Swedish cultural, social, linguistic and family structures, and also the characteristics of the crisis that most immigrants go through on their arrival in the new country. The qualitative method also involves structured telephone interviews with eight highly educated Iranians.This method was supplemented by a quantitative study through questionnaires of the attitudes· of lranian immigrants to libraries and reading. Iranians in Sweden turned out to be frequent Iibrary users.

Papperstidningen är död! Länge leve webbtidningen!Inte riktigt så. Men sant är i alla fall att människors medievanor har förändrats mycket sedan internet blev en del av våra liv. Allt fler människor väljer att ta del av nyheter på nätet i stället för i papperstidningen. Utvecklingen gäller i synnerhet kvällstidningsgenren.Webbtidningens och papperstidningens olika förutsättningar och format har lett till att olika medielogiker har uppstått. Och där tar denna studie avstamp.

I detta arbete har ett övervakningssystem till en torkmaskin i en pappersmassamaskin utvecklats. Övervakningssystemet ska motverka att pappersarket i maskinen spårar ur sin bana. Detta händer ganska frekvent vilket orsakar produktionstopp. Övervakningssystemet ska innehålla uppkoppling till billiga IP-kameror via nätverk, beräkningsmetoder av vilka färger som syns i bild från IP-kameran och lagring av färgvärdet som fås av beräkningsmetoderna i en databas. Med hjälp av programmering i programspråket Java och metoder från visionsbiblioteket OpenCV har en mjukvara skapats för att lösa problemen.
