Rening av avloppsvatten med anaerob membranbioreaktor och omvänd osmos
This master's theses was carried out on assignment from Stockholm Vatten AB as a part of a project developing new Waste water treatment techniques. The goal of the theisis has been to evaluate an anaerobic membrane bioreactor for treatment of Waste water from Hammarby Sjöstad. The bioreactor has not been heated and the main interest has been to study the gas production, power consumption and the reduction of organic matter and nutrients. The system has been completed with a reverse osmosis unit and a total of four batch runs have been made with good results. The use of reverse osmosis allows nutrient in the Waste water to be reintroduced into circulation as the reverse osmosis concentrate can be used as crop nutrient. The membrane unit is of VSEP ("Vibratory Shear Enhanced Processing") type and an extensive membrane test has been conducted. This so called L-test helped determine the most suitable type of membrane for the system to allow a higher ±ux and thus lower power consumption.

This report was written by Lisa Bengtson and Hanna Paradis and describes the
degree thesis "Environmental impacts of solid Waste treatment in the Metropolitan
Region, Santiago, Chile ? a comparison between current system and incineration
with energy recovery". The purpose of this thesis was to investigate if incineration
with energy recovery could be motivated through an environmental perspective as
an alternative to landfilling of solid Waste in Santiago, Chile. The study was
performed with Life Cycle Analysis as a theoretical base.
In Santiago, situated in the thirteenth region of Chile, Región Metropolitana, lives
6,5 million inhabitants. The major part of the solid Waste produced in the region is
landfilled on three different sanitary controlled landfills situated outside the city
center.
Norra Djurga?rdsstaden som nollstad : En studie av miljo?projektets sista etapp och dess potential
All around the world more and more people move from rural areas to live in the cities. Because of this, the urban areas have become an important part in the debate about the effects on the environment and sustainability. In many countries word wide initiatives have been taken to build sustainable cities and eco cities, the Stockholm Royal Seaport is one example. The vision for the district is to become a world class sustainable city based on the three dimensions of sustainable development: social, economic and ecologic. The municipality of Stockholm has set requirements for the buildings? energy usage, emissions and amount of Waste generated during the building process.
Spillvärmeåtervinning
SAPA´s resource of Waste heat is the basis for this thesis to investigate the possibility of energy assets in their cooling water and possible uses for it. The energy in the Waste water is greater than the current need which has three uses which are (1) heating the factory, (2) converting liquid propane to propane gas and (3) local domestic heating. The average energy load that is available is 1, 7 MW and the average temperature in the cooling water is 41°C. The total energy load at dimensioning out side temperature is approximately 1,6 MW for the three current uses. The temperature is currently too low to be used directly in the existing systems so an upgrade is needed.
Anaerob psykrofil behandling av hushållsavloppsvatten i UASB : Utvärdering av kapaciteten hos en två-stegs UASB-reaktor för behandling av hushållsavloppsvatten
Hammarby Sjöstad is a new district in southern Stockholm. A main objective with the Sjöstad project was to halve the environmental impact compared to other construction work. The environmental goals involve a halved water consumption rate, a local treatment of storm water and trials aiming to extract nutrients from the Waste water. Sjöstadsverket is an experimental treatment plant used for testing new treatment processes for domestic Waste water from Hammarby Sjöstad. The results are to be compared with the conventional process used at Henrikdals treatment plant today.
Återvinning av industriell restvärme som värdeskapande process : En fallstudie på SSAB EMEA i Borlänge
The industrial sector accounts for a large share of greenhouse gas emissions. To reduce its negative impact on the environment is crucial in the quest for a sustainable future. In discussions of the industrial sector's impact on the environment guidelines have been highlighted as a tool to assist the industries in their efforts to change the relationship between the consumption of energy and production. This by improving energy efficiency and a shift to the best available technology. During the past 30 years the steel industry has reduced its energy consumption per ton of steel produced by 50 percent.

Analys av energiförbrukning, Akzo Nobel Functional Chemicals AB
The main purpose of this project was to make a survey of the steam and electricity consumption at Akzo Nobel Functional Chemistry AB and give suggestions of how to minimize them. These three different areas were focused on. First to make a survey of all the most important consumers, second to find the electricity consumption of the air compressors and the amount of Waste heat produced from them. The third area was to calculate a model of how much fresh water that is used during a cooling sequence in the water based heating/cooling system of the reactors and give a suggestion of a suitable reuse for this water. The main result is a total survey of the energy consumption in steam and electricity. The survey shows that the second largest group after drying is heating of ventilation which gives big potentials of reducing the total steam consumption if there is a way of being self supporting in ventilation heat.
Anaerob nedbrytning av TNT : Ett bioreaktorförsök på Vingåkersverken
A bioslurry reactor was built for the bioremediation of TNT contaminated Waste from the demilitarization industry. The field test was conducted at Vingåkersverken in Vingåker, Sweden, to see if results from laboratory studies could be repeated in a full scale reactor. The goal of the project was to optimize the reactor to such a degree that it could be used to handle the Waste produced at Vingåkersverken and also that this technique could be applied for remediation of contaminated soils. Unfortunately the samples taken during the full scale field test were destroyed by the shipping company and no analysis was possible. A later attempt by the Biorex research group has also been unsuccessful to reduce the amount of TNT using the bioreactor.
Garbage to gardens : design proposals for two decentralised waste management units in Pune, India
The population growth and urbanisation in low-income countries bring issues of poor living standards and miserable sanitation conditions onto the agenda. If well-functioning Waste management systems were developed, this could master some of the problems. The already existing local informal Waste handling system that is common in many low-income countries, needs to be developed with proper sorting and composting solutions to decrease the environmental burden and improve the overall situation in the dense cities.
This master?s thesis project is performed with the intention of developing functional decentralised Waste management units in the city of Pune, India.
Föräldraledighetslagen som diskrimineringslag
The concept of sustainable development has been pervasive in recent years and many organizations choose to implement sustainability and adapt their activities accordingly. The purpose of this study have been to explore how a collaboration on the use of Waste materials may look to analyze what influences cooperation. A case study has been carried out examining a Swedish state regional project aimed at creating partnerships between actors and utilizing textile Waste with the help of design. The study was conducted using qualitative methods and the collection of data has been done through interviews and by examining documents. The results show that there are seven key factors that affect cooperation: expectations, commitment, internal communication, a strong non-profit actor, individual treatment, personal networks and the diversity of actors.
Biogas : En systemanalys av Solna Stads matavfallsprocess
Global warming is a huge issue that humans have contributed to through over-exploitation of natural resources and extensive usage of fossil fuels. Now more than ever, we need to embrace a recycle thinking and reuse our Waste, for example through producing biogas from our food Waste. The purpose of this report was therefore to identify the energy usage and emissions resulting from the biogas chain which spans from Solna Stad to Uppsala Vatten. Furthermore, potential efficiency improvements were to be identified and proposed. This report focused mainly on the first part of the biogas chain that includes the collection of the food Waste and the reloading process.
Utredning av potentiella hälsorisker i samband med slagg- och slaggvattenhantering vid Hedenverket, Karlstad
In this study potential health risks for employees in connection with handling of bottom ash and bottom ash water at a Municipal Waste Incineration (MWI) plant have been investigated. Air surrounding the bottom ash and the bottom ash water has been examined. MWI is one of the primary ways to manage solid household Waste, and bottom ash is the main solid residue produced by the incineration process. Bottom ash constitutes about 15-20% of the original Waste. The bottom ash is extinguished in a water bath (bottom ash water). The study was carried out in a MWI plant in Karlstad, Sweden.
Vad påverkar fjärrvärmepriser i Sverige?: En ekonometrisk analys
The purpose with this thesis is to analyse different factors that can explain district heating prices for energy companies in Sweden. We are further interested in examining if the prices is affected by the use of industrial Waste heat in their production and the company?s ownership structure. The method applied is a multiple regression analysis using a panel data set of 50 companies over 5 years (2008-2012). The data used is yearly data obtained from the Swedish district heating association.
