This Masters thesis work describes a comparison between two different methods for estimation of the down channel (base station to mobile subscriber) in Wide-band Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA). The first estimation method, Optimal Feed-forward Channel Estimation (OFCE), is a conventional method that bases the estimates on data that is known to both sender and receiver, so called pilots. The second method, Decision Directed Channel Estimation (DDCE), is an elaboration of OFCE. It also uses user data for estimation. Simulations show that DDCE, in comparison to OFCE, does not attain an improvement in signal-to-noise-ratio (SNR) for high bit error rates (BER).

An improvement is only seen when the BER becomes much lower than what is common in real situations. In conclusion DDCE is complicated, involves many mathematical operations and gives insignificant improvement of SNR when BER takes common values. It is legitimate to question if it is possible to use the method in a real mobile phone system..

Ericsson AB har en produktionsenhet i Gävle (Sverige), CDC Gävle. Denna enhet är indelad i två fabriker, Skolgången och Avaström. På Skolgången monteras WCDMA radiobasstationer (3G) och på Avaström GSM radiobasstationer (2G).CDC Gävle har idag ett stort returflöde av emballage från inkommande monteringsmaterial. Det förekommer också många störningar i materialförsörjningen till monteringen. CDC Gävle har beslutat att på sikt ska allt material som idag finns på lager befinna sig på hubbar.Syftet med examensarbetet var att undersöka påfyllnaden av monteringsmaterial till linan.

We have 3G on the doorstep but nothing seems to attract ordinary people to this technology. To attract the mass market the telecom industry must show something beyond high bit rates. They must show how ordinary people can take advantage of this new technology. This is done by showing the possibilities of the new technology and by demonstrating applications that it will handle. The telecom industry must convince the telecom operators to invest in this technology and the only thing that matters to them is how much revenue they can make by adopting the upcoming technology.

This master?s thesis deals with integrating simulations using Agilents Electronic Design Automation tool ADS with customized Matlab scripts, for solving complex analog and digital radio architectures. In particular, it addresses predistortion, realized in the digital domain, of power amplifiers, modeled in the analog domain. The former is implemented in Matlab while the latter is implemented in ADS. Two versions of integrating the two systems have been tested: 1) Iterative approach on sample basis and 2) Scheduled batch solution by matrix inversion.

Att möta en fluktuerande efterfrågan med en kundorderstyrd produktion är ett problem för många företag. Ett av dessa företag är Ericsson CDC Gävle, tillverkare av radiobasstationer, där situationen försvåras ytterligare med många produktvarianter och korta ledtider. Problemet är att volymerna kan variera väldigt inom en kort tidshorisont. Den fluktuerande efterfrågan bidrar till att underleverantörer får svårigheter att möta Ericssons plötsliga avvikningar från prognostiserat behov, och gör att produktionsplaneringen försvåras. För att justera kapaciteten används till stor del bemanningsföretag och problem uppstår med att behålla ett standardiserat arbetssätt och stabila processer.
