Hur smärtan upplevs är beroende av orsak till smärta och på vilka sensoriska nervfibrer som är aktiveradeDet perifera nervsystemet består av till ryggmärgen ledande ? afferenta ? och från ryggmärgen kommande ? efferenta ? nervtrådar. Sensoriska nervfibrer delas in i tre grupper efter funktion, anatomi och med vilken hastighet de förmedla elektriska impulser De nervändstrukturer som svarar på kraftiga oftast vävnadsskadande (noxiska) stimuli benämns nociceptorer.Kemiska mediatorer är viktiga komponenter i den nociceptoriska reflexen. Det är ett komplicerat samspel mellan de olika signalsubstanserna som avgör hur vi upplever smärta.I ryggmärgens inre finns den centralt belägna grå vävnad (substantia grisea) och det är här som nervös information sorteras, bearbetas och lagras och där alla synaptiska omkopplingar äger rum.

Equine appeasing pheromone (EAP) är ett feromon som avges vid juverområdet på ston under digivningsperioden. Detta feromon har framställts syntetiskt och ingår i produkten ConfidenceEQ som går att köpa receptfritt på apotek och kliniker. Produkten ska göra hästen avspänd och fokuserad och kan användas vid till exempel inlärning och träning samt vid situationer där hästen visar tecken på oro. Situationer där hästägaren själv kan välja att använda EAP är till exempel inför transport, veterinärbesök, hovslagarbesök eller tandundersökningar. Ibland kan detta vara situationer där veterinär sedan behöver sedera hästen för att det ska gå att genomföra vissa undersökningar och behandlingar. Det är därför intressant att undersöka om EAP påverkar sederingsgraden av detomidin, en vanligt förekommande substans för sedering av häst. För att undersöka om EAP påverkar sederingsgraden med detomidin hos häst utfördes en trippelblindad, experimentell, prospektiv, crossover-studie där 8 hästar ingick.

Post-anaesthetic myopathy (PAM) is a serious occasional complication of general anaesthesia in horses. It causes not only pain and suffering to the horse, but also suffering (trauma) to the owner with increased veterinary costs. In the worst case PAM can be fatal. The anaesthetic nurse must know which parameters have to be taken into consideration in the prevention of PAM, to be able to prevent it, and use that knowledge for the animals safety. The aim of this literature review was to investigate and make a presentation of the factors and measurements associated with PAM, with focus on how to monitor these measurements to prevent it from happening, and the advice a Veterinary nurse can give to the horse owner regarding this condition. According to literature there a few factors that greatly increase the risk of PAM, these include- hypotension, periods less than 60 mmHg significantly increases the risk.

The research questions were: Does the value of pain change on the Visual Analog Pain Scale (VAS) between before and after treatment? Do the positive provocative tests for impingement change between before and after treatment? Does the active shoulder mobility change between before and after treatment? Does the self-rated function change between before and after treatment?Method: The study was a prospective randomized intervention study and 19 persons with impingement symptoms (mean ± standard deviation; 58 ± 18 years, and shoulder pain duration 3.9 ± 1.6 months) were randomized into two groups. The groups were tested before, directly after and 3 weeks after treatment.

För att patienten ska kunna leva ett så normalt liv som möjligt med sin sjukdom krävs det att denne får en grundlig och bra undervisning av vårdpersonal med goda kunskaper och erfarenheter om diabetes. På många sjukhus finns det idag särskilda diabetesteam, som består av läkare, diabetessjuksköterska, dietist och sjukgymnast. En yrkeskategori, som de senaste åren och kommit att ingå i diabetesteamet är undersköterskan. Syftet med den här studien är att beskriva undersköterskans patientundervisning inom diabetesvården och vad deras undervisning består av.

This report is a master thesis performed by Adam Lundin at the company Sandvik Coromants production facility in Gimo. The work started in January 2013 and went on for the duration of 20 weeks, which is equivalent to 30 hp. The project was executed at the department GVR10. The scope of the project was to create a base for improvements in the purchasing process of direct material to the production. The background to the project was that the centralized purchasing department has gone through changes and decision was taken to decentralize the purchasing of direct material to Gimo.

Ledinflammation eller osteoartrit (OA) är en vanlig orsak till hälta hos häst. De metoder som idag används för att diagnosticera ledinflammation är förhållandevis ospecifika och allt för ofta diagnosticeras ledinflammation när skadan har blivit irreversibel med radiologiska skelettförändringar. Genom att mäta förekomsten av olika inflammationsmediatorer vid OA kan denna kunskap i framtiden förhoppningsvis utnyttjas för tidig diagnostik och utvärdering av behandling. Syftet med denna pilotstudie är att studera förekomsten av de två proinflammatoriska cytokinerna interleukin (IL)-1? och high mobility group box protein (HMGB)-1 i ledvätska och serum från halta hästar och korrelera dessa till kliniska fynd. Studien innefattar 14 hästar som vid klinikbesök uppvisat en initialhälta.

The reason for the latter measurement was due to registered negative transients each time the motor was connected to the grid. The cause of the transients could be explained by the coupling in the substation, the ageing of the motor which could result in damage of the bearings or resonance in the motor circuit which amplifies high frequency harmonics.

This article presents a survey of male dogs treated with the gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) agonist deslorelin (Suprelorin®, Virbac) at three animal clinics in central Sweden. Filled-in questionnaires from 110 dogs were received. The paper also includes a review of existing litterature concerning reproduction in male dogs, focusing on endocrinology, the effects of gonadectomy and the GnRH agonist deslorelin. Continuous treatment with deslorelin produces infertility in male dogs. The pituitary is initially stimulated by deslorelin leading to a rise in luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) secretion. As a consequence the testosterone levels also increase temporarily.

Syfte och frågeställningarStudien genomfördes med syftet att specificera vilken intensitet och duration vid uppvärmning som är optimal för att få ut största möjliga effekt vid anaerob prestation i form av maximalt vertikalhopp och fem sekunders maximal cykelsprint. Studien byggde på tre frågeställningar: På vilket sätt påverkar uppvärmningen prestationen vid ett maximalt vertikalhopp? På vilket sätt påverkar uppvärmningen prestationen vid ett maximalt fem sekunders sprinttest? Vilken uppvärmning är optimal för maximal muskulär explosivitet?MetodDesignen var en kvantitativ experimentell studie som innefattade fyra fysiskt aktiva kvinnor med genomsnittsålder på 24 år. Testerna bestod av nio tillfällen där en slumpad uppvärmning på ergometercykel genomfördes varje gång. Därefter genomfördes tre vertikalhopp, så kallade counter movement jump, på en kraftplatta och tre fem-sekunders sprint (5sCST) på Monarks Peak Bike.
