IKEA HaparandaTornio employ some two-hundred people in its furniture retail store.Keeping track of staff statistics and employee information has previously been achievedthrough the use of a basic Microsoft Office Excel spreadsheet. The store?s human resourcesdepartment requested an upgrade to this system with the hope of speeding up andsimplifying the administrative process, as well as to make it easier to monitor HR-relatedtarget statistics. The following report documents the development process of that upgrade ascarried out by the author. The project draws on research in usability design and cognitivepsychology to develop a user-friendly interface.

The main discussion is how to create an information system that is adaptable without losing its organising properties. The thesis uses a holistic approach to the topic and the areas being dealt with are information architecture, interactive information retrieval and information searching. In this report I will describe how an art-directed fluid effect for motion picture can be achieved. This effect will be an explosion with a visual style that is congruent with Pixar's movie Up. To begin with I will analyze the visual components that are used in Up and control the fluid simulation to get the desired visual style. I will briefly explain the background of my thesis, why it is interesting to create designed effects and why it is hard to design fluid effects. In the method I will explain my work process and some of the challenges that arises.
