The study was carried out at the Kungsängen Research Centre, Department of Animal Nutrition and Management, Swedish University of Agriculture Sciences, Uppsala. The technical development in dairy production has resulted in a housing system where feeding and milking is done automatically without human contact, a so called automatic milking system. The motives for utilising an automatic milking system, is to increase the animal welfare and to decrease the need for manual labour. However, the system does involve a change for the animals, among the effects is the deprival or the diminishment of a chance for synchronous behaviour and the animals have to agree among themselves in which order they use the feeding stations and the milking unit itself. How and if this affects the animals well-being and production is yet to be solved. Detta inläckage kan leda till att ledningarnas kapacitetöverskrids med en möjlig bräddning eller översvämning som resultat.Detta examensarbete använde sig av modellering, TV-inspektion, jämförelse av meteorologiska datamot spillvattenavrinning och fältarbete i form av områdesinspektion, okulärbesiktning,ammoniummätning och flödesmätning i spillvattenledning. Med hjälp av dessa moment fastställdesbelastningen på ledningar och pumpstationer, genom att bestämma volym på spillvattenproduktion ochdagvattenbildning i det studerade område i östra Knivsta.Beräkningar visade att utan inläckage var belastningen på spillvattenledningarna långt under denmaximala kapaciteten. Simulering av dagvattenbildningen visade dock att dagvattenledningarnaskapacitet är för liten för 2-, 5- och 10-årsregn.Ur TV-inspektionen framgick att det fanns många defekter på både dag- och spillvattensystemen,vilket kan leda till inläckage. Öppna sprickor kan under kraftig nederbörd innebära en stor extra volymi spillvattenledningen.

Vårt syfte med utvecklingsarbetet var att undersöka om verklighetsnära matematik ökar motivationen hos elever. Undersökningen gjordes i två klasser i årskurs åtta, med 22 elever i den ena och 9 elever i den andra klassen. Eleverna har arbetat med verklighetsnära arbetsuppgifter under en period av fem veckor parallellt med sin ordinarie undervisning. Undersökningen avslutades med att eleverna svarade på en enkät som vi framställt. Dom jämförde den verklighetsnära matematiken med den traditionella undervisningen som dom annars har.

In the farrowing pens the amount of bedding material and the quality of the concrete floor has a huge impact on both the sow and the piglets. In this study imbedding of rubber flooring on the solid area in the farrowing pen was used to see if it had any effects on the sows lying behaviour when compared to concrete. Another important aspect was to evaluate if the rubber floorings had a high enough durability to resist the normal wear in a farrowing pen. Concrete flooring is assumed to have a higher thermally conductive effect then rubber which can affect the sow?s chance to cool down.

Under den förhållandevis korta period modellen har varit i praktiskt bruk ute i landstingen, har två utvecklingar av den kunnat skönjas. Den ortodoxa Stockholmsmodellen, som betonar formalitet och konkurrens, samt Bohusmodellen som tar tydligt avsteg från Beställarutförarmodellens grundprinciper genom att framhålla samverkan och partnerskap som främsta attribut.

Chemotherapy is one of the most important methods of treatment available today for the treatment of neoplastic diseases and gives many patients an increased quality of life and a prolonged survival time (McKnight, 2003). The object of this study was to find out more about owners? views on and experiences of chemotherapy of dogs when it comes to for example quality of life, side effects and if they would make the same decision and treats their dog again in the future. A questionnaire was in the spring of 2009 sent out to the owners of 100 dogs that had been treated with chemotherapy for neoplastic diseases at Universitetsdjursjukhuset, Sveriges Lantbruksuniversitet (SLU) in Uppsala between 2002 and 2008. The response rate was 67 %.

Piglet survival is a problem of great significance in pig production, affecting both animal welfare and economic aspects negatively. In Sweden it is illegal to use farrowing crates for sows on regular basis. To encounter this problem there is a proposal of an animal welfare program to allow the use of crates for sows during, and a number of days after, farrowing. The proposal aims to reduce piglet mortality and improve pig welfare. This present review aims to analyse how crating affects the welfare of sows, gilts and piglets as well as piglet mortality.

How are you going to act to keep the quality on the potato during the storage, with a minimum of weight lost? My aim with this thesis is to get a view over how the potato act in storage space. Every year many dogs in Sweden are bitten by the adder, a venomous snake (Vipera berus). Despite the fact that adder bites are so common in dogs there have been few investigations made that study the effects of treatment with glucocorticoids, a drug that is commonly used. We have carried out a literature study concerning adder bites in dogs and a prospective study where case history, clinical signs and treatment have been recorded in dogs that were presented at two veterinary hospitals after a confirmed or suspected adder bite. Fifty three dogs were included in the study out of which 22 were treated with glucocorticoids. In our study, the group of dogs treated with glucocorticoids was compared with the group of dogs that did not receive glucocorticoid treatment by the owner or on arrival at the clinic.

The main purpose of this essay is on one hand to try to find and explain the formula of success of the rock group Status Quo, and on the other to elucidate and explain the foundation and essence in the music made by Status Quo, but also to study how, if and why the foundation and essence have changed over the years. The method of investigation is partly based on a musical analysis of three albums from three different periods: Hello! (1973), Ain´t Complaining (1988) and Heavy Traffic (2002), and partly on a sociological study of the group?s career between 1962 and today, 2005.The first part of the essay concerns the period between 1962-1973 with an analysis of the album Hello!; the second part concerns the period 1974-1988 and the album Ain´t Complaining; finally, the third part concerns the years between 1989-2002 with an intensified analysis of the album Heavy Traffic. In the forth part of the essay I discuss the career of Status Quo from a sociological point of view.I run to the conclusion that the essence of Status Quo is the boogie-woogie comp on Fender guitar by Rick Parfitt, the riff on Francis Rossis´ Fender guitar in combination with the base, the piano and the drums. This study is about how older people are portrayed in TV- commercials, and what those images are saying about senior citizens as consumers. I?ve chosen two of Sweden?s most popular TV channels that are broadcasting commercials and from those two channels recorded commercials in a period of one week, three times a day (morning, afternoon and evening/night). My purpose with this study was to see when older people stared in commercials, which kind of merchandises they were marketing, in which manor they acted out their roles, and (if possible) say something about the elderly people as consumers..
