This master thesis project at KTH is performed in the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineeringdepartment at University of Florida (UF). The thesis is a small part of a gas turbine researchproject where a vapour absorption refrigeration system (VARS) and a high pressure regenerativeturbine engine (HPRTE) are integrated together. The main objective is to build a computermodel of the VARS. The computer model is supposed to be used to analyse the off-designperformance of the VARS and should also be easy to integrate as a subroutine in a more complexsystem model. To model the VARS some knowledge of the absorbent/refrigerant mixture had tobe well known, in this case a mixture of ammonia and water.

Studien undersöker hur fysisk gestaltning i pedagogiskt drama formas under ett lärotillfälle i skolmiljö. Studien använder sig av ett socialsemiotiskt synsätt och en multimodal ansats för att undersöka eleven som utövare av fysisk gestaltning. Fysisk gestaltning betraktas som ett medium och sammanhanget analyseras utifrån ett designteoretiskt perspektiv på lärande. Två grupper elever i 10 års-åldern har filmats och observerats. Resultaten visar att påverkan från regler i skolan, instruktioner och pedagogen beskriver elevernas formella design.

Eftersom kritisk design a?r en teori som stra?var efter att fo?ra?ndra i praktiken ligger utmaningen idag i att skapa praktiska exempel som visar hur utfo?randet kan ga? till, vilket a?r en no?dva?ndighet fo?r att teorin ska kunna utvecklas (Bardzell et al., 2012).Denna studie a?mnar vara metodutvecklande genom att skapa en uppsa?ttning verktyg utifra?n utvalda delar (teoretiska metoder och perspektiv) ur kritisk design.

In this thesis a transport system is sought after thatif realised in the city of Uppsala could provide bothwell-being to all its inhabitants and sustainability,here jointly refered to as liveability. It is found thatthe car dominated transport system that is inoperation today provides two fundamental values,namely accessibility in both time and space, whichsets it apart from other transport solutions. Thesetwo values are of immense importance for theliveability in our modern world. On the other handthe car dominated system decreases the liveabilityof Uppsala in several different ways. Some of theseproblems, it is argued, could be solved within thecar system, through the adoption of moreenvironmentally friendly cars etc., but otherproblems are inherent in the car system and willremain no matter what changes are made.

In order to facilitate design and maintenance of such a large and complex site as a nuclear power plant, all system functions must be described in a stringent way. In the past, these descriptions consisted of text documents and logical diagrams, but today there are an increasing number of object-oriented programs available on the market which might be used for this purpose. This Master Thesis has made a closer study of one of these programs named Rational Rose. The principal of the program is to facilitate software design and development, not to create models of plants. However, using the program the same way as developing software, specifying actors then gradually extend the model with use cases, use cases diagrams etc, the same methods can be used when modelling plants.

Students at Jönköping School of Engineering were given an assignment from Jönköping municipality, to evaluate their decision support system, QlikView. The students have also developed proposals for improvement with focus on usability.The Jönköpings municipality has currently got 11000 employees and consists of nine different administrations. The target group for QlikView is approximately 600 first-line managers.The intention of QlikView is that the users can get an overall picture of their business by having all information in just one system.The purpose of the thesis is to obtain a picture of what the users think about the system today and present relevant suggestions for improvement, which the Jönköping municipality can use when the introduction of the new version of QlikView takes place. The research questions that the study aims to answer are:? Has QlikView got a user friendly interface?? How can the interface be improved to become more user friendly?Theories that this work is based on is Jacob Nielsens ten usability principles and Ben Schneidermans eight golden rules.

Today all buildings contain some form of home automation. It might be heating controlled by athermostat or motion detectors controlling outdoor lighting.This paper,The Intelligent House, deals with the planning of a house in Kiruna, in the north ofSweden and further immerses itself in home automation or intelligent control in single-familyhomes. The house has been entirely planned, from layout to structural design and plumbing.The purpose of the paper has been to investigate the possibilities in home automation in singlefamilyhomes and to choose a suitable home automation system for the house being planned.The system has been designed and the costs and energy savings have been calculated.The system chosen for the house is called KNX and is the largest system for home automation inSweden. It is used to control heating, ventilation, lighting and alarm systems in the house. Is hasbeen found that KNX is very expensive and that the amount of energy, possible to save in thehouse, using the system, is relatively small.

This thesis project has been written and accomplished in cooperation with HABO AB. The objective of the project was to develop a standard stated packaging system. The background to this is that HABO is not pleased with the system currently in use. The system which HABO is currently using consists of to many sizes. The largest benefit of a standard stated system is that it becomes much easier to organize the packaging with the aid of a computer program.

Ekonomistyrning är något som behövs för att en verksamhet ska fungera och styrning sker i första hand inifrån organisationen. För att styrningen ska fungera på ett tillfredställande sätt så är det viktigt att ha ett informationssystem som kan generar rätt information som ska ligga till grund för beslut, planering och uppföljning av verksamheten.Det problem som uppstått i Paradisverkstan Design AB och som ligger till grund för uppsatsen är att det finns någon löpande kontrollen av företagets ekonomi. Företagets ekonomistyrning är i behov av förbättringar då verksamheten under de senaste åren vuxit i omfattning. Informationsflödet i företaget är inte tillräckligt i förhållande till dess storlek och för att lösa detta krävs ett fungerande system för internredovisning. Syftet med uppsatsen är att identifiera kriterierna för ett bra internredovisningssystem för framtagning av rapporter åt Paradisverkstaden Design AB och finna utgångspunkter för vidare utveckling av systemet. Tillvägagångssättet i studien är en abduktiv forskningsansats med en kvalitativ undersökningsmetod.

Because of increasing demand of power on Malmbanan the capacity of the existing wires which supply the trains must be increased. This increases the stress on the existing poles and for this reason the system for supplying the loads along the railway is to be removed from the poles and be replaced by some other system. This thesis is a study on a two-level low voltage (1 kV and 0.4 kV) electrical system with the aim to investigate if it can be an alternative to the system used today taking into account the voltages, fault currents and costs.In this thesis the following tasks have been performed:? Gathering of data? Description of basic theory? Loadow and fault current calculations of the system with MATLAB? Life Cycle Cost estimate of the system? Analysis and conclusions from the resultsThe results show that the new system can be an alternative to replace today's system. The simulations and calculations show that the voltage drop is at an acceptable level and that the fault currents are large enough to supply a safe disconnection if a fault occurs at the far end of the system..

Målet med det här arbetet är att presentera ett förslag på en komponentbaserad design som skall användas för att lösa ett problem som finns hos företag som jobbar med flera affärssystems API-komponenter. Lösningen som uppnås är ett komponentbaserat gränssnitt som låter sig anpassas, underhållas och utökas av användare. Vår lösning beskriver hur en design ser ut som låter utvecklarna hos dessa företag arbeta mot ett komponentbaserat gränssnitt som programmatiskt ser identiskt ut oberoende mot vilket API-system utvecklaren arbetar mot eller med. Resultatet når vi genom att använda en blandad metodik, d.v.s. en metodik där både kvalitativa och kvantitativa metoder används.

Denna uppsats beskriver utvecklingen inom projektet att skapa en redesign av en intranätmall till företaget Circuit i Stockholm. Denna intranätmall representerar de intranät som företaget producerar och används för att sälja in intranät till nya kunder. På grund av att många uppdateringar och nya funktioner tillkommit i de senaste intranäten som levererats vill företaget uppdatera sin intranätmall och som en del i arbetet skapa en ny design till den. Det som levererades inom projektet var slutgiltiga Photoshopskisser med syftet att beskriva designen i detalj, samt påbörjad kodmässig implementering i front-end med hjälp av ramverk för responsiv design..

Den här rapporten förklarar tillvägagångssättet för framtagningen utav en responsiv design till webbplatsen Projects & Staff, en webbplats som tidigare hade en fixed design. Projektet består utav två leveranser, hi-fi prototyper skapade i Adobe Illustrator och Adobe Photoshop samt en färdig mobilversion utav webbplatsen, utvecklad med CSS3. Under projektets gång har jag designat för användarupplevelse och användbarhet, två områden som är viktiga inom responsiv webbdesign. Jag har utfört en förstudie i form av en webbplatsanalys, gjort en PACT-analys samt användarintervjuer. Detta för att definiera behoven som fanns för en responsiv design, samt att få en tydlig bild av användare och deras vanor.

Students at the School of Engineering at Jönköping University have on behalf of the swimming organization ?Nässjö Sim och Livräddningssällskap? conducted research on how to monitor and evaluate swimmers and swimming groups in a simple and efficient manner with a focus on usability and user friendliness. Since no system existed that could meet these requirements, the client had a desire to tailor and develop such a system. The purpose of this work was to develop a system that would work as a tool to be used by coaches and swimmers alike and allow them to eventually follow the development of swimmers and swimming groups.
