The web sites of Swedish public libraries display a high level of heterogeneity when it comes to design and graphical user interface. The thesis is based on the opinion that the visuals of a public library web site have implications for the user as well as for the library. The design of the graphical user interface influences the attention of the user and his/her ability to absorb information. Furthermore, there is a connection between the visuals and the users opinion about the credibility of the content of the web site, as well as of the organisation itself. The research question is: Which factors may have an impact on the design of the graphical user interfaces of a public library web site? The purpose is to create an understanding for these factors and emphasize them.

C2-monitor : en rapport om utvecklingen av ett mobilt gränssnitt

This report presents the development process of a mobile interface for the C2-monitor. A monitoring tool used to support the operations for the broadcasting services of Ericsson Broadcasting and Media Services (EBMS). With the support of the C2-monitor, operators can monitor hundreds of channels and services produced from EBMS. To enhance a more flexible working environment, the C2-monitor needs to be developed further to support mobile devices with a customized design to take advantage of mobile phones features and functionality. Established and well-recognized design methods and principles have been applied in the development process and user testing have been made iteratively throughout the project.

This thesis investigates how web agencys in Stockholm use, value and incoroprate the terms usability, user experience and interaction design in their work process. The purpose of this study is to investigate how creative professionals works with the notions of usability, user experience and interaction design with focus on the end user. Our definition of creative professionals is every employee at a web agency involved in the work process of developing digital artefacts in any capacity. We wanted to investigate how these notions are considered, consciously or unconsciously, during the workprocess. At Saab Aerospace in Linköping, components for measurement systems to the fighter aircraft JAS 39 Gripen are developed. In this activity you sometimes want to record the traffic transmitted on the data busses that connects different sys-tems. This traffic on the data busses is using the military standard MIL-STD-1553. This project has aimed to create a system for recording and sending 1553-data. The system is used on an ordinary personal computer, equipped with a recon- figurable I/O card that among others has a programmable logic circuit (FPGA).

In recent decades here has been a huge development in information technology (IT), where we humans are increasingly using IT in our daily lives, ranging from social media to music streaming services; this has also been a reflection of the technologies developed to our cars. Infotainment systems have become an increasingly regular feature in modern cars where the high degree of integration such as navigation, mobile and Internet has become more common and more sought after. Despite this, relatively little research problemized User Experience of a complex infotainment system in a car. This study thus has the intention to consider the relevance of reality based tests by examining how the user experiences a complex infotainment system in a car. We asked ourselves; How do the user experience a complex infotainment system in a car? We conducted our qualitative study, an interview with researchers in the field of vehicle and road safety and designed a number of system-related activities in a test session where we observed three users.

In relation to the development of IT-products it is very important that the software supplier is aware not only of the target group but also the field of application. Usability should characterize the whole IT-design process as, in relation to this context, design includes more than merely those aspects which are visible to and thus can be interpreted by the naked eye. The study examines the specific qualities and properties that substantiate the usability and the demands that a customer rightfully expects from an IT-product. The user and the customer are highlighted in the same context in order to demonstrate that it is through the customer that an IT-product is defined as being useful. Thus, from this perspective, the user and customer can be considered as being the same person.

Utvecklingsprocessen av ett företags produktionssystem : En kvalitativ intervjustudie om hur ett medelstort företag beaktar användarcentrerad systemdesign i utvecklingsprocessen av ett nytt produktionssystem

I denna studie har författaren undersökt hur ett medelstort företag gick tillväga vid framtagan-det av ett produktionssystem och jämfört processen med de teorier och riktlinjer som finns för användarcentrerad systemdesign.Studien har genomförts baserat på litteraturstudier och semistrukturerade intervjuer.Intervjuobjekten har utsetts tillsammans med handledaren, tillika linjechef för utvecklings-gruppen, på företaget för att redovisa olika perspektiv på utvecklingsarbetet.I resultatavsnittet presenteras utvecklingsprocessen med en modell av flödet tillsammans med en beskrivande text. Genom interna instruktioner för utveckling av datoriserade system anslu-ter företaget bl.a. till olika teorier inom användarcentrerad systemdesign. I det studerade ut-vecklingsprojektet var olika användare inledningsvis med informellt och allteftersom systemet växte så fick de vara med och göra acceptanstester och utvärderingar innan nya uppdateringar skulle släppas.Slutsatsen av studien är att flera inslag av användarcentrerad systemdesign applicerats i ut-vecklingsarbetet i företaget vilket sammantaget gör att användarnas synpunkter tagits tillvara. Dock följer företaget inte någon speciell metod inom området vilket sannolikt skulle förbättra utvecklingsprocessen i framtida projekt..
