The subject of this master thesis concerns the area of change in libraries, with special orientation towards privatisation. Its aim is to investigate how privatisation is portrayed in one of Sweden?s largest library magazines, Biblioteksbladet, in order to gain insight into why these portrayals are what they are, and what consequences they might get. Three theoretical viewpoints create the general base of the thesis; first, Fairclough?s critical discourse analysis (CDA) theory on the relations between text and society; second, Audunsson?s theory concerning how change is dealt with in public libraries; and third, a conceptual framework on privatisation consisting of definitions and perspectives of the phenomenon.

The aim of this thesis was to examine how role players experiences libraries and if the libraries are or can be an arena for activities that involves role play. A public library exists for everyone, but could nevertheless be viewed as a female sphere where women both borrow more books and visit the libraries program activities to a larger extent, compared to men. I asked the question whether men?s reason for choosing a different venue for information and culture was related to the libraries not being able to satisfy their needs. The theory of the thesis was Dorte Skot-Hansen, Casper Rasmussen Hvenegaard and Henrik Jochumsens model that states that the libraries can have four different functions and act as a venue for meetings, knowledge, inspiration and experiences.

The aim of this Master's thesis is to examine what effect two different models of acquisition have on user satisfaction with information resources at academic libraries. The two models examined are the traditional model where a subject specialist librarian makes the selection, and the user-governed model where the larger part of the selection is based on user requests. The scope is the libraries of Roskilde University, which employs the traditional acquisition model and Malmö University, which employs the user-governed. Both libraries have a user-oriented approach to acquisition. The study encompasses a close examination of the acquisition policy through document analysis and interviews with the librarians in charge of acquisitions at each university, as well as a user-satisfaction survey among the professors and senior teachers on two faculties at each university respectively.

This master?s thesis seeks to examine how a public library use the intranet with regards to the possibilities that today?s intranet technology offer ? especially concerning functionalities that support information, communication and knowledge exchange in the organization. The purpose of the study is to investigate how employees in one specific public library perceive and use the intranet in their daily work. The theoretical framework takes its point of departure in two complementing models regarding the implementation, development and management of intranets and a model of a multi perspective view of the intranet as a shared information space for content, communication and collaboration. The study is based on interviews with eleven of the intranet users, whom with the aid of an interview guide have been asked questions regarding goals, implementation, content, design, applications and advantages/disadvantages with the intranet.

The aim of this thesis is to investigate how librarians view marketing of the library using social media and how this can be used in a marketing strategy. The theoretical framework for this thesis is based on the 7 Ps of the marketing mix, SWOT-analysis and SWOT/TOWS Matrix. The theory is based on planned elements that make up a product or service offered the market. We have used our own interpretation of the theories to analyse our material. Our main method has been a web-based questionnaire, the questionnaire was sent to 523 librarians active at ten large public libraries and its related branches.

The intention of this essay is to describe the problems with loss of books at three Swedish University libraries. It?s based on interviews with librarians. The library codes of ethics, the library law and the terms of reference of the libraries are central for my understanding. Interview results: Little was being done to stop theft.

Syftet med denna uppsats var att undersöka hur väl webbplatsen för Karlstad Universitetsbibliotek möter studenters behov på mobila enheter, samt huruvida de anser att en biblioteksapp skulle utgöra ett behövligt komplement i framtiden. Uppsatsen riktar sig främst till Karlstads Universitetsbibliotek men kan även tänkas vara av intresse för bibliotek vid liknande lärosäten.För ändamålet upprättades två prototyper, varav den ena representerade befintlig webbplats på mobiltelefoner, medan den andra utgjorde ett exempel på hur en biblioteksapp skulle kunna se ut. Vårt syfte med denna studie var att kartlägga gymnasielärares uppfattning om och nyttjande av specialpedagogens kompetens och yrkesfunktion samt om det förelåg några likheter/skillnader bland gymnasielärarnas uppfattning om den specialpedagogiska verksamheten utifrån skoltillhörighet, undervisningsämne och yrkesverksamma år som lärare. För att nå vårt syfte genomförde vi en enkätstudie bland samtliga gymnasielärare på två gymnasieskolor i en mellanstor kommun i Norrland. Det framkom en skillnad mellan gymnasielärarnas uppfattning om vilka insatser de anser bäst och vilka insatser de använder till elever som riskerar att inte nå godkänt i sina kurser. I vår studie visar resultatet, att den enskilde gymnasieläraren har makten när det gäller nyttjandet av specialpedagogens kompetens. The main purpose of this Master?s thesis is to do a benchmarking study of the marketing activities at the public library of Valdemarsvik. The purpose is also to describe and get a deeper understanding of benchmarking as a method for improving library activity. Four major problem areas are addressed: How can one use benchmarking as a tool to achieve change? How can one learn with benchmarking? What similarities and differences are there between benchmarking and other similar methods for competence development? Is benchmarking better than other similar methods for competence development? The empirical approach was qualitative and the method chosen was action research.

Sammanfattning Syftet med min undersökning är att ta reda på vad barn i förskoleklass och årskurs ett läser hemma och vad föräldrarna tror kan öka deras läslust såväl i hemmet som i skolan. Min frågeställning är: Vad läser barn hemma? Vad gör föräldrarna för att öka deras barns läslust? Hur utnyttjar man det i skolan för att väcka och öka barns läslust? Undersökningen är gjord i form av enkätundersökningar samt en intervju i en höginkomsttagarkommun. Undersökningen är gjord i en kombinerad förskoleklass och förstaklass. Eleverna är i åldrarna 6-8år. I undersökningen har sexton föräldrarana obsververat sina barns läsvanor i hemmet.

Denna utvärdering är gjord vid Slottegymnasiets bibliotek i Ljusdal och syftar till att lyfta fram skolelevernas åsikter kring bibliotekets roll, rum och användning. Jag har använt mig av observationer och semistrukturerade intervjuer för att få fram en bred och kontrastrik bild av bibliotekets användare.Utöver eleverna har jag även intervjuat kommunens bibliotekschef, ansvarig rektor vid skolan samt skolbibliotekets bibliotekarie, för att se om deras bild av biblioteket överensstämmer med elevernas. Jag har även utgått från lagtext samt direktiv från skolinspektionen och på det sättet arbetat fram ett mikro, makro, meso-perspektiv där lagen representerar makro, kommunen representerar meso och eleverna vid skolan representerar mikro-delen av undersökningen.Slottegymnasiets bibliotek är placerat centralt i skolan och många elever passerar igenom det under dagen för att ta sig från ena delen av skolbyggnaden till den andra. Detta resulterar i att en hög andel elever passerar biblioteket under dagen. Eleverna i min undersökning uppskattar bibliotekets placering i byggnaden och använder det i första hand till studier.Datorerna i biblioteket används flitigt av eleverna, delvis som komplement till skolans datasalar och delvis för nöjen.

The purpose of this study is to examine sex/gender relations amongst staff in public libraries who have taken part in projects related to information technology. This is done through e-mail surveys and telephone interviews with staff who have participated in the development of the two library websites Mina bibliotek and Biblioteket.se regarding their experiences. The theoretical basis for the analysis is two gender theoretical perspectives with reference to technology. The first perspective is represented by Yvonne Hirdman?s theory concerning the gender system, in which women and men are kept apart and in which there is always a hierarchy where men are higher up, and Hanna Westberg-Wohlgemuth?s theory concerning sex marking of job-tasks.

Syftet med studien är att undersöka kommunala skolpolitikers uppfattning om musikämnets betydelse i grundskolan. Studien har sin fokus på de första åren i grundskolan. Utifrån syftet har följande frågor ställts till fem olika respondenter i två kommuner. Vilken uppfattning har kommunala skolpolitiker om musikundervisningens främsta uppgift i skolan? Hur arbetar kommunen för att grundskolan ska nå läroplanens mål i musikämnet? Kvalitativa intervjuer har använts intervjutillfällena.Studien visar att de Kommunpolitiker som medverkat i undersökningen inte uppfattar musikämnet i skolan som ett svagt obetydligt ämne för eleverna.

The purpose of this study was to examine how some children with reading problems experience and use libraries. The main problem was: How do dyslectic children experience and use libraries and how do they handle their reading difficulties when using libraries? The questions at issue were: 1. Do children with reading problems use libraries, and if so how? - in which purposes do they use libraries? - which materials and services do they use? - why dont some children use libraries? 2.

In Sweden, many children in compulsory school attend after-school recreation centres. All children are offered local after-school recreation centre attendance in the age 6-12 during their parents? work hours. Our aim with this Master thesis is to investigate how after-school recreation centres can use libraries to stimulate children?s own interest to read.
