An inquiry into the post-war European aesthetic and political landscape should take the international organization UNESCO?s colour reproductions and travelling exhibitions of paintings into consideration. In these, the organization implements André Malraux? idea of the ?imaginary museum? as a framework for a future cosmopolitical, aesthetic (and utopian) community. During the late 1940?s, the Swedish government also discusses the need for raising an ?aesthetic awareness? amongst their citizens as a consequence to a poor knowledge in the fine arts.

Detta arbete är en uppsats på avancerad nivå inom det utbildningsvetenskapliga fältet och undersöker hur skolämnet filosofi legitimeras utifrån UNESCO:s filosofiarbete. Utgångspunkten är vad som kallas de didaktiska grundfrågorna ? eller Vad?, Hur? och Varför? ett visst ämne studeras  ? och uppsatsen berör således även filosofididaktik i stor utsträckning.  Det övergripande syftet med arbetet är att undersöka hur filosofiämnet legitimeras eller rättfärdigas, och mer specifikt hur UNESCO  rättfärdigar filosofiundervisning. Forskningsfrågorna för uppsatsen är: Hur ser UNESCOs svar på legitimitetsfrågan ut?, Hur argumenterar UNESCO  för svaret? och Vad får UNESCOs svar på legitimitetsfrågan för innebörd på filosofiundervisningen? Tillvägagångssättet för att kunna svara på dessa frågor har varit en beskrivning, tolkning och värdering av UNESCOs filosofiarbete.

The aim of this thesis is to investigate the electric solar potential on the Swedish island Gotland. The Gotlandic habitations have been divided into four house categories. For each category energy demand, roof area, geographic orientation androof tilt have been decided. Solar radiation data have been collected from the Swedish solar radiation model STRÅNG (STRÅNG, 2012).The buildings characteristics and the solar radiation have been used as input values in common solar formulas, the solar potential for each building category have been summed up to a total electric solar potential for the region.The electric solar potential on Gotland was calculated to 242 GWh/year with solar data from 2010. Gotlands largest city, Visby, is marked as cultural heritage by UNESCO (UNESCO, 2012).

Biosfärområden utgör ett nätverk av modellområden som praktiskt visar hur man nyttjar jordens resurser på ett ekologiskt, ekonomiskt och socialt hållbart sätt.Dessa områden utses av UNESCO:s program Man and Biosphere (MaB). Min studie utgår från två frågor i syfte att visa hur det går till när ett svenskt biosfärområde bildas. Uppsatsen skall dels svara på vilka drivkrafterna bakom bildandet av biosfärområdena är, dels visa hur och varför personer och organisationer i Sverige engagerar sig i bildandeprocessen. Detta undersöks med hjälp av litteraturstudier och kompletterande intervjuer. Det är viktigt att sprida kunskap om denna process eftersom biosfärområden utgör verktyg i det globala hållbarhetsarbetet.Litteraturstudier av främst rapporter från Naturvårdsverket och dokument publicerade av UNESCO visar att det bör finnas ett brett samarbete mellan olika intressenter när biosfärområden bildas.

The subject of this master thesis is the school library and how we find its potential unutilized. We look at this problem in connection to the democratic assignment that the Swedish school has. The purpose is to elucidate what the democratic assignment consists of and to establish the role that the school library ought to have in this assignment. To describe the democratic assignment we examine and interpret the documents that regulate school and library activities today, including UNESCO/IFLA School Library Manifesto and United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. We use critical ideology analysis because we consider democracy to be a sort of ideology and have a critical view of how the school library is used or rather not used in school.

The aim of this Master?s Thesis is to examine the importance of literacy and reading in a country like Jamaica. What role do public libraries and bookmobiles play in promoting literacy, and how does this work correspond with the UNESCO public library manifesto?To answer this, interviews were conducted with nine Jamaican librarians, and study visits were made to libraries and bookmobiles. In addition, development plans, policy and other relevant documents were analyzed.

Svensk naturvård har bedrivits genom ett ovanifrånperspektiv där politiska beslut utformats utan lokal förankring. Genom samhällsförändringar och teknisk utveckling har det skapats ett större fritidsutrymme för befolkningen, vilket i sin tur resulterat på krav om ökat skydd för naturen. När UNESCO:s världsarvskommitté år 1996 tog beslutet att inrätta Laponia till ett världsarv, underströks betydelsen av en interaktion mellan människa och natur. Förutom att Laponia utgörs av ett rikt djurliv innefattar området även ett unikt geologiskt värde och naturrikedom, till detta kommer ytterligare faktorer som att området brukas sedan lång tid tillbaks av en etnisk minoritet, samerna. När det är många intressenter som skall samverka i och kring ett område uppstår det ofta intressekonflikter, inte minst om det som i Laponia handlar om att bevara och nyttja mellan olika brukargrupper.

The aim of this Master?s thesis is to study various views of sponsorship in relation to public libraries as found within three cultural policy documents. The main objective is to discover which ideas are considered relevant in the partnership between the Swedish retail chain, Åhléns, and the children?s public library, ?Room for Children? (Rum för Barn). In 2005, Åhléns provided SEK3.14 million in sponsorship to ?Room for Children? at Kulturhuset in Stockholm.

År 2003 utnämnde UNESCO årtiondet 2005-2014 till decenniet för utbildning i hållbar utveckling och även andra internationella och nationella beslut togs för att föra in utbildning för hållbar utveckling (Education for Sustainable Development) i skolans alla ämnen. ESD syftar till att eleven ska utveckla sin förmåga att kritiskt granska olika såväl ekologiska, sociala och ekonomiska perspektiv samt kunna ta ställning till dessa genom ett aktivt deltagande i olika demokratiska processer för att stödja hållbar utveckling. Forskning på området har dock visat att integreringen i skolans alla ämnen inte har fungerat på det sätt det har varit avsett. Denna uppsats syftar till att ta reda på om ESD förekommer inom engelskaundervisningen på gymnasienivå (inom Skaraborgs län). Den försöker också att identifiera vilka hinder och möjligheter det kan finnas för att arbeta med ESD i engelska A/B.

The aim of this two-year masters thesis is to look for the Swedish public library´s core business, using theories about competence. The approach is qualitative. It is done by studying the UNESCO Public Library Manifesto, the Swedish library legislation, the education in library and information science, two important Swedish library related journals and by asking public librarians about their work and point of view regarding competence.The research shows mainly two sides of the core competence of public librarians: information technology competence and literature knowledge. The conclusion is that the two meet in the idea of mass education, which could therefore be called the Swedish public library´s core business..

Lifelong learning (LLL), a concept dating back to the 1920s, is much used both by the OECD, UNESCO and the EU. But while intergovernmental think-tanks and supranational organisations often use the term in a positive sense, many (not least scholars) are critical of the term. The critique either deals with the lack of a universal definition, that the implicit responsibility for LLL has shifted onto the individual, or that the meaning of the term has shifted from a humanistic one linked to the personal development and a better society to a neoliberal one that involves growth, competition, globalisation and human capital theory. This study is based on interviews with nine trade union representatives on their understandings of lifelong learning. The results showed that while LLL was positively viewed by most, there was virtually no communication vis-à-vis members on the topic, most trade unions have no policy regarding LLL, and responses from representatives were sometimes self-conflicting..

This master thesis aims to examine the methods of the conservation field and their visionabout maintenance and change, in terms of liturgical values. This is to be able todetermine if there is a need to develop the methods that the field of conservation has tosafeguard the intangible cultural heritage of the churches.This is mainly a literature review, focusing on different tutorials from the Swedish nationalheritage board, and different texts on liturgy aswell as UNESCO's Convention for theSafeguarding of intagible Heritage (2003), ratified in Sweden in January 2011. A casestudy of the practical work has been carried out on three churches that have undergonechange. The application process and the results were important for this study.The conclusion is that the conservation field have ambitions to preserve the liturgicalvalues, but they do not have sufficiently developed methods to do so. This Master's thesis discusses the freedom of speech, the right to freedom of opinion and expression, freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas in the context of public libraries in Sweden. The scope of this thesis is to examine the acquisition and maintenance of the literature about the killing of Sweden's Prime Minister Olof Palme 1986. This literature will serve as an instrument to measure the extent to which Swedish public libraries adhere to the rules set by the Swedish parliament, United Nations' universal declaration of human rights article 19, UNESCO's public library manifesto and the principles of the Federation of Library Associations and Institutions..

Öland ligger mig varmt om hjärtat och det är därför jag har valt att arbeta med denna plats. Projektet handlar till stor del om hur arkitekturen ser ut och hur den möter landskapet. Men till lika stor del vad som händer där om hur den påverkar och möjliggör att få ta del av detta otroliga landskap.Intentionen är att skapa en arkitektonisk lösning för att förhöja upplevelsen av Stora Alvaret, naturen och rumsligheten. En oas för människans välbefinnande och möjlighet att få ta del av den säregna naturen på nära håll under årets alla årstider. En unik och välanpassad plats som med sitt program och sina verksamheter stärker besöksnäringen och lockar fler besökare till Öland och världsarvet.Min strategi är att skapa en punkt som fungerar som hjärtat av Världsarvet och Södra Öland.
