Emerging infectious diseases are a recurring threat to both human and animal health. Understanding the multiple causes behind the emergence of new diseases is key to the prevention of new and potentially devastating outbreaks. The list of underlying causes is long, including a variety of anthropogenic, environmental, molecular and climatic changes that promote the emergence and spread of disease. Two of these factors are central to the emergence of new diseases and receive special attention in this study. The spread of disease from wildlife to livestock and diseases that spread from animals to humans (zoonoses) are of importance as they implicated in the majority of EID events.

Bakgrund: Cancer är något som berör många människor. Det räknas med att var tredje svensk under sin livstid kommer att drabbas av en cancersjukdom. Cancer är vanligast bland äldre människor, omkring två tredjedelar är över 65 år när diagnosen ställs. Syfte: syftet med studien var att beskriva hur cancer påverkar livskvaliteten hos människor. Me-tod: Studien är en litteraturstudie som baseras på åtta vetenskapliga artiklar med kvalitativt och delvis kvantitativt innehåll.

The purpose of this Masters thesis is to investigate if gender stereotypes are mediated to children between 0-3 years through books suitable for their age. This thesis concerns books that are available in public libraries. The content will be analysed by using a combination of methods, both content analysis of all the books in our study and a qualitative analysis of a smaller number of these books. With inspiration from both Robert Connell and Yvonne Hirdman and their theories of gender and gender stereotypes, this material was read and we wanted to examine if books for very young children might establish stereotypes. Our analysis showed that many known stereotypes are common in these books.

The aim of this masters thesis is to explore a mediators practical procedure during booktalks. The main question is: Why do librarians have booktalks and what does it mean to have booktalks for children? In order to answer our main question, we have used these three questions: - Why do our interviewed librarians have booktalks? - How do our informants prepare their booktalks and what do their presentations look like? - Do our informants have any follow-ups of their booktalks and if so, how do they do that? To limit the thesis, we have concentrated our study to Swedish public libraries and to children in the elementary school. We have conducted qualitative interviews with three librarians who do booktalks for children as a part of their job. The thesis theoretical basis is Aidan Chambers theory about the Reading Circle and especially the parts enabling adult and selection.

Kolorektal cancer är en sjukdom som drabbar individer över 60 års ålder och är den tredje vanligaste cancerformen i Sverige. Syftet med denna litteraturstudie var att redogöra hur individerna upplever livskvalitet efter kolorektal kirurgiskt ingrepp. Litteraturstudien gjordes utifrån ett systematiskt tillvägagångssätt. Litteratursökningen utfördes i databaserna Cinahl, Medline, PsychInfo, PubMed, Samsök samt The Cochrane Library. Kvantitativa studier inkluderades vilka kvalitetsgranskades av båda författarna oberoende av varandra med hjälp av ett modifierat granskningsprotokoll.

Bakgrund: Kronisk obstruktiv lungsjukdom (KOL) är en folksjukdom, som påverkar kroppen både fysiskt och emotionellt. Enligt världshälsoorganisationen beräknas sjukdomen öka och bli den tredje största dödsorsaken år 2030. Syfte: Syftet med litteraturstudien var att belysa patienters upplevelser av att leva med KOL genom frågeställningen; hur upplevs det emotionellt av att leva med KOL. Metod: En litteraturstudie bestående av tio kvalitativa artiklar genom databassökning i CINAHL, Medline och PubMed. Resultat: Det framkom en rad olika känslor i relation till olika upplevelser. Fyra huvudkategorier identifierades till: upplevelser av fysiska begränsningar, upplevelser av att leva med syrgas, upplevelser av minskad självständighet och betydelsen av sociala relationer.

At the Skoghall pappermill, sulphatepaper pulp is produced in a continuous digester originally from 1969. To be able to maintain a high level of production there is a need for a process with few disturbances. Variations in how well the wooden chips are packed in the digester is one form of disturbance. Today there are no available measurements on how well the chips are packed. Instead this is regarded as being constant.

This report describes how the process has evolved during the creation of a new web page forthe company Scandinavian Travel Agent DMC. The design methods that have been used aredescribed and also how parts of the webpage have been created by using the design methodresults. Our reflections around design and functionality are explained and how usability hasbeen our main focus during the master thesis. We also describe how it has been to work withan external costumer and how the tasks constantly have changed and been added as theprocess has continued.The background to this work is that AB Scandinavian Travel Agent DMC need to improve theircurrent web page. This to give the clients better needed information about destinations, butalso to stand out in the competitive travel business.

This report has a dual focus. The first goal was to increase the knowledge of how the use of electricity in a residential building is distributed. Electricity in residential buildings is used for lighting in common areas, elevators, pumps and many other appliances. The electricity used for these different parts is to a great extent unknown. A few studies have been carried out and the result of these is referred to in this report.By means of measurements and approximations the use of electricity for various appliances became known.

To complete an overweight treatment program is associated with better weight loss. Previous studies have in principle focused on drop-out from the entire program, not individual parts of a program. Factors previously shown to influence the patients´ weight loss results are: frequency of individual meetings with a professional, the lack of social support from family or friends, the lack of motivation and in a few studies vacations. In several studies the drop-out patients have stated that their reasons for drop-out were dissatisfaction with the staff and the program design. Drop-out has also been shown to be connected with difficulties in adherence to the diet.

Detta examensarbete har genomförts vid Institutionen för teknik och naturvetenskap vid Linköpings Universitetet, Campus Norrköping. Examensarbetet är ett resultat av en undersökning, sammanställning och analys av insamlat data som bygger på ett webbaserat frågeformulär om simulering inom svenskt näringsliv.Syftet med undersökningen har varit att ta reda på i vilken omfattning, hur och när simulering (händelsestyrd simulering) används inom svenskt näringsliv. Även de tekniker och metoder som förekommer vid de olika aktiviteterna och som används i ett simuleringsprojekt har undersökts. Sammanlagt är det sex hypoteser som har formulerats i början av arbetet för att med hjälp av dessa formulera frågorna till undersökningen. Undersökningen som bygger på en webbenkät har skickats till ca 2600 personer som är medlemmar i PLAN som är en ideell förening och deras medlemmar arbetar med logistik- och transportfrågor i industri- och handelsföretag.Sammanlagt är det 82 personer som har valt att delta och svarat på frågorna i webbenkäten.

Syftet med denna studie är att undersöka om konsthuvudstereo låter illa vid högtalarlyssning. I studien undersöks även om konsthuvud efterliknar A/B- stereo i hörlurslyssning. Studien utförs genom att testpersonerna granskar tre attribut genom fem frågor. I studien genomförs två inspelningar samt tre lyssningstest. Två av lyssningarna är testlyssningar som förberedelse till tredje lyssningen.

Permaculture is a design system that aims at developing sustainable human settlements and self-maintained agriculture; it may also be used for community planning. The design system of permaculture aims at mimicking a natural ecosystem; this gives the advantage to make use of all the connections and mechanisms that exist in such a system.The purpose of this bachelor thesis was to compile and spread scientific information regarding five different themes within the areas of ecology, environmental science and permaculture. This was achieved through cooperation with the permaculture inspired Ecovillage Suberbyn in southern Gotland. Information about the central parts of a permaculture ecovillage was used as material for a series of signposts that will be located around the ecovillage Suderbyn. The five selected themes were: An overview of permaculture, The forest garden, The pond, Composting and The use of human excrement and urine..
