With the advance in computer and network technologies, multimedia systems and Internet applications are becoming more popular. As broadband network is prevailing, more clients are able to watch streaming videos or to play multimedia data over the Internet in real-time. Consequently, there is an increasing demand in the Internet for streaming video systems. As the run-time environment of such applications tends to be dynamic, it is imperative to handle Transient overloads effectively. The goal of this work is to develop an algorithm that would provide a robust and controlled behavior of the video system so that important data is delivered on time to the video clients.

Den här rapporten redovisar arbetet bakom en utveckling och framtagning av aktiva, trådlösa hifi-högtalare, där teorier om unika akustiska fenomen testas och bekräftas.  Högtalarna är tänkta att användas som utställningsobjekt och designkoncept. Även ett tillhörande styrsystem har utvecklats.Arbetet inleddes med en omfattande förstudie som innefattade användarundersökning och konkurrensstudie. Utifrån dessa kunde en kravspecifikation utformas som skulle komma att fungera som ett styrdokument genom designprocessen.Idégenereringsmetoder, konceptval, modellering samt fysisk byggnation ledde fram till gruppens önskade resultat. Stor tyngd lades även på att hålla ett genomgående formspråk i alla delar av systemet, där vi fokuserade på att utgå ifrån de former som är av stor akustisk betydelse, så att ljudegenskaperna kunde optimeras, samtidigt som en god design kunde erhållas.Resultatet blev två stycken fysiska, fullt funktionella och formmässigt korrekta hifi-högtalare, gjorda åt uppdragsgivaren Transient Design. Det blev även en hel högtalarserie med fronthögtalare i två storlekar, stativhögtalare samt ett tillhörande interaktivt styrsystem.

Diabetes mellitus is characterised by persistent hyperglycemia in all species. Fructosamine is a glycated protein reflecting blood glucose concentration during the preceding weeks. It has become a valuable analysis to differentiate persistent hyperglycemia from Transient stress induced hyperglycemia in cats. It is also used to evaluate current therapy in diabetic patients. Although fructosamine is a well accepted analysis, it is sometimes regarded with scepticism.

The  change that has occurred during the past few decades concerning the development of electronic records, information technology and the constantly increasing quantity of information, have confronted the archival discipline with new challenges. In the digital world, the concept of ?record? has changed from representing something lasting and physical to something much more abstract and Transient. The way to approach archival description has also changed, from focusing on the static preservation of archival records, to documenting the transactions of organisations, and to clarify operational processes. The discussion about the general purpose of the archival discipline, and its place in a changing world, has led to a new approach to archival description.

This thesis has been carried out in New Zealand in collaboration with the University of Waikato. In association with Dr. Mike Duke the purpose of this work is to investigate whether two different software for modeling of photovoltaic systems are useful in the teaching of solar energy.The next ten years grid-connected photovoltaic systems are assumed to increase and therefore also a rising demand for people with engineering knowledge are to be predicted. For engineer students with a focus on solar energy a more practical teaching with design software´s can be a good method to make the students comprehend more when it comes to large scale photovoltaic systems and be more prepared for working life.The software´s used is called Transient System Simulation (TRNSYS) and Photovoltaic Systems (PVSYST) which are both well used throughout the world. To assess the reliability of the software´s, a reference solar power plant at 16.1 kWp installed capacity are used, which consists of photovoltaic modules from four different manufacturers.

Concrete floors have traditionally had no problems with annoying vibrations. However with the demand for larger spans the floors need to be made more slender with a higher degree of utilization and lower mass. Therefore new floors may have problems with vibration serviceability. This thesis studies the vibration characteristics of hollow core slabs. The analysis was made in the finite element program Ansys. The hollow core slab was subjected to a varying force simulating one person walking across the slab.

Safe operation of a large synchronous power system as Nordel is not an easy task.There are several aspects to take into consideration. This thesis focuses on the problems due to voltage collapses in a transmission system.The ability to foresee an upcoming collapse is vital to maintain stable operation of the grid. The grid operator at Svenska Kraftnät (SvK) uses the computer program SPICA to predict the maximum transfer limit at specified transfer sections. SPICA uses actual states from the grid to predict the transfer limitation, and a quarter later a renewed estimate is produced and so on. This means that the operator can se his transfer limits vary every fifteen minutes.Our task in this project is to validate the accuracy of the limitations obtained by SPICA.

The Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition (HCCI) engine is promising in terms of lowNOx, low particulates and high efficiency. Due to its homogeneous charge, where thecombustion starts almost simultaneously from a number of points in the combustion chamber,only lean mixtures are possible to burn because of the resulting rapid combustion, which is muchfaster than the combustion in an SI-engine or a diesel engine. When richer mixtures are used thecombustion will start earlier and also be more violent.To phase the combustion later and lower the combustion speed, external cooled EGR can beused. The EGR-system used in this thesis uses a divided exhaust channel where one channel andits corresponding valve are used only for transporting EGR back to the intake system.Consequently the EGR-valve is connected to the intake pressure. This system is called Direct-EGR (D-EGR).Engine tests verified that the CA50 indeed is phased later when cooled EGR is used.

In the pilot study for a biography, some of the methodological and/or theoretical problems facing the anthropologist and biographer are discussed.The empirical section is based on a number of interviews I made with my grandmother over the period 1995-2001. I have come across inconsistencies in the material when rendering a historical event. Furthermore, the material makes me reflect on how the biographer or anthropologist is able to handle or interpret that she and the subject/informant has a different attitude to metaphors and how the metaphors can change over time, space and interpretation.The essay begins with a summary review of some of the central social and behavioural scientific theories that can be related to the individual and the biography.There then follows an in-depth discussion based on Paul Ricoeur's philosophy that says that your identity is created in relation to how you look at your history and future at the present time. Identities are created in an interaction between the field we are currently in, the cultural capital that includes gestures, mannerisms, symbols, our language and the area of interpretation the field allows in the culture. Consequently, the biography is also a representation that is created in time and space and between the subject and the person rendering the subject.The biography or ethnography is Transient and is of necessity a historiography.Ricoeur talks about the living metaphor.

Maternal behaviour is crucial for the development of the rat pups? behaviour and stressresponses later in life. There are numerous studies evaluating the effects of the dams?behaviours on the pups, but not many addressing what can be made for wellbeing of the ratdams when breeding. Few studies have addressed the question of how the commonly usedrearing environment effects the dams? behaviour and in the long run how it effect the ratsreared to become our research models.

Tillgången till tjänligt grundvatten kan på vissa platser vara begränsad. Sveriges Geologiska Undersökning (SGU) har för första gången i Sverige använt sig av Sky-TEM (Danskt utvecklat system för mätningar med Transient Elektromagnetism från helikopter) i ett område i Skåne för att mäta resistiviteten i marken och på så sätt identifiera partier med salt grundvatten. Detta examensarbeta har haft sin grund i jämförelse mellan dessa Sky-TEM mätningar och egenutförda markbundna geoelektriska mätningar (elektrisk resistivitetsmätning med multielektrodsystem) De markbundna geoelektriska mätningarna genomfördes längs två profiler inom området för Sky-TEM mätningarna. Den ena profilen (Annero) i ett område där djupet ner till det salta grundvattnet tolkats vara stort, och den andra (Lillevång) i ett område där djupet hade tolkats vara litet.Tolkningarna från Sky-TEM och de geoelektriska mätningarna stämmer inte heltöverens med varandra. De visar båda på ett större djup till det salta grundvattnet vid Annero och ett mindre djup vid Lillevång, men också systematiskt på ett större djup vid mätningar gjorda med Sky-TEM jämfört med de geoelektriska.

Bovine viral diarrhoea virus (BVDV) is the causative agent of a complex of disease syndromes in cattle with high economical and welfare impacts. BVDV occurs as two biotypes; cytopathic (BVDVcp) and noncytopathic (BVDVncp) determined by differential effects on cultured cells and can also be divided into two genotypes (BVDV1 and BVDV2) on the basis of genomic diversity. The interaction between BVDV and the host?s immune system is regarded a key aspect in the sequel of BVDV infection. Infection with BVDV normally causes an acute Transient infection, with mild to subclinical signs, but occasionally results in severe and even fatal disease.

Kvarstående betäckningsinducerad endometrit är ett stort problem inom hästnäringen och så även andra typer av endometrit. Detta är den främsta orsaken till infertilitet hos ston. Vissa ston är nämligen oförmögna att klara av den inflammatoriska reaktion som normalt följer av betäckning (för att eliminera sperma och patogener) eller så drabbas de lättare av kroniskt infektiös endometrit, oavsett betäckning. Det finns otaliga förslag till förklaringar till varför de inte kan hålla uterus fri från inflammation såsom defekta myometriekontraktioner, stoets reproduktionshistoria eller anatomiska aspekter (t.ex. pneumovagina, otillräckliga mekaniska barriärer eller en horisontell uterus).

Hydrogeologiska tester av borrhål har länge varit en viktig metod för att estimera sprickigt bergs hydrogeologiska parametrar såsom transmissivitet och magasinskoefficient. Lugeon-tester är borrhålstester där vatten injekteras i en sektion under konstant tryck som höjs och sänks i steg. Utvärderingen av testet kan ge information om flödet i de vattenledande sprickorna är turbulent eller laminärt samt om det uppstår några geomekaniska effekter, såsom elastisk vidgning av sprickor under testets gång. De ekvationer som rutinmässigt används för utvärdering av testet förutsätter stationärt flöde och tryck i slutet på varje trycksteg, förhållanden som sällan återfinns i verkligheten. Antagandet om stationaritet tros ge en felaktig utvärdering av testet och därför har konsultföretaget Geosigma tagit fram en Transient numerisk modell som beskriver Lugeon?tester och som kan användas för utvärdering av testet.Modellen har i detta examensarbete använts för att utvärdera Lugeon-tester utförda i Rönnskär av Geosigma, men också Lugeon-tester utförda av författaren i Uppsala.
