In this essay I want to investigate how the poodle strategy affects a person?s credibility when he or she uses it. The poodle strategy is a strategy, which someone uses when he or she is scrutinized by the media. It?s primary purpose is to suppress further media coverage but it is also a strategy for defending oneself and hence rescuing one?s reputation either as a private person or as an official.The essay?s research questions are:How has the strategy been applied for defensive purposes and what are the results?To which extent can the Stasis theory and Benoit?s theory on Apologia be connected to the strategy?Does the strategy affect the user?s credibility?To answer these questions four cases from the political sphere in Sweden where persons have been said to have ?done a poodle? have been analyzed.

The purpose of this paper is to explore how masculinity and femininity are constructed in the magazine Veckorevyn, through a critical discourse analysis of 18 articles from six issues in 2011. This is done by using a variety of theories and previous research results, which is gender theory, the theory of late-modern society and media theory. The analysis shows that Veckorevyn depicts virility and feminine differently. Furthermore, pointing the results from the analysis that a change of manhood and womanhood takes place in the social practice. The selection of articles from the magazine also shows that Veckorevyn seems to promote gender equality. .

The aim of our study was to examine how the elderly experience their meal situation in a sheltered housing. We have used a qualitative approach. We conducted individual interviews with six elderly in a sheltered housing to collect our empirical material. To reach the purpose of this study we tried to answer the questions: which factors affect the elderly person?s experience of the meal and which significance does the meal have for the elderly? To reach deeper understanding for our collected material we used Maslow?s theory of human motivation, the two concepts of Tönnies; gemeinschaft and gesellschaft, disengagement theory and the concept of Bourdieu, called habitus.

Influences from military theory are a part of the development of military doctrines. This thesis has, by using a method with three different dichotomies, traced and classified influences from William S Lind?s theories regarding manoeuvre warfare in the Swedish military doctrine, for land operations. The aim of this Master?s thesis is to investigate if the reading habits of teacher students are influenced by merit and descent. The empiric material consists of six questionnaires answered by students at the teacher training with Swedish at the upper secondary school as their first topic. The questionnaire comprised questions about reading habits in the childhood and today and information concerning merits and descent.Pierre Bourdieu?s sociological ideas about cultural capital transmitted from parent to child and the concept of habitus are used as a theoretical framework regarding descent.

Syftet med min uppsats var att undersöka vilka bilder socionomstudenter på termin 3 och 4 uppfattade att socionomutbildningen på Göteborgs universitet gav av Socialtjänsten. Jag har gjort en kvalitativ studie där jag haft 4 fokusgruppsintervjuer med studenter. Jag har undersökt hur studenterna uppfattar att bilden av socialtjänsten framställs, i relation till socialtjänsten som samhällsfunktion och socialtjänsten som framtida arbetsplats. Jag har analyserat mitt material med ett avstamp ur Bourdieus teorier om fält, habitus och kapital. Det framkom i min studie att socialtjänsten framställdes som en viktig samhällsinstans, men med oförmåga att fullfölja sitt uppdrag, på grund av inkompetens, stress och otillräckliga resurser.

The first aim of this study is to describe how the public employment service (PES) producesoccupational descriptions. The second aim is to analyse the conditions for that production.Method: The empiric material consists of seven qualitative interviews with employed at PES,operational plan for the team working with descriptions on occupations and observation notes.The overall theme in the study is Foucaults perspective on power. The conditions forproduction of occupational descriptions are understood in the light of the governmentality perspectiveand the concept of employability. Bourdieu´s concept habitus, symbolic violence and capital are usedto articulate the officials? values and experiences.Eight officials at PES produce the occupational descriptions.

Syftet med denna uppsats var att undersöka vad eleverna anser viktigt i ämnet idrott och hälsa i gymnasiet nu och i framtiden. För att undersöka detta delades reflektionsunderlag ut till elever i fyra klasser. En utav dessa klasser tillhörde idrottsprogrammet, det urvalet gjordes för att se om det finns någon skillnad mellan de som läser ett idrottsprogram och de som läser ett ?vanligt gymnasieprogram. För ge ytterligare djup till uppsatsen används socialisation och habitus samt teorin ?Self-determinaiton Theory and the Faciliation of insintric motivation, Social development and Well- being?.

Utifrån vår forskningsgenomgång framstod bilden av barn och vuxna barn till drogberoende föräldrar som övervägande negativ, sjukligförklarande och stereotypifierande. I kontrast till tidigare forskning sökte vi att med vår studie uppvisa en så komplett och balanserad bild vi kunde av ett antal vuxna barn - studiens syfte var att belysa positiva och negativa upplevelser hos ett antal vuxna barn till drogberoende föräldrar. Undersökningen genomfördes med en kvalitativ ansats, där empirin samlats in genom intervjuer med fem kvinnliga vuxna barn till alkoholberoende föräldrar. Materialet tolkades med Pierre Bourdieus begrepp habitus, sociala fält och kapital, samt den tidigare forskningen. Vi fann att nästan alla deltagare upplevde ensamhet eller utanförskap under barndomen, att alla hade olika många kompisar under uppväxten och att knappa hälften hade problem med relationer i vuxen ålder.

I detta arbete undersöks pojkars och flickors socioekonomiska bakgrund, attityder till läsning, läsaktiviteter och deras betydelse för resultat på läsprov samt för betyg. Undersökningsgruppen är elever i årskurs nio i två kommuner på fyra skolor. Eleverna har besvarat enkäter rörande socioekonomisk bakgrund, attityder till läsning samt läsaktiviteter.  Resultat på läsförståelsedelen i det nationella provet i svenska samt elevernas betyg har samlats in. Faktoranalys har använts för att undersöka materialet. I den identifierades tre faktorer, som summerades till variablerna, Kulturellt kapital, Läslust och Läskompetens. Dessa undersöktes i sin tur, i relation till kön, resultat på läsprov och betyg med multipel regressionsanalys. Resultatet visade att variabeln Kulturellt kapital har störst betydelse för resultat på läsprov och betyg, särskilt för flickor. Ekonomiska resurser i hemmet i form av kapitalvaror hade inte betydelse alls.

The aim of this study is to examine physical education teachers? and students? views on the thesis and its part in the physical teacher education program at The Swedish School of Sport and Health Sciences.Does the view on the thesis differ between techers/students and the program with its curriculum and other policy documents?What does students/teachers value in a thesis?Does teachers/students have a mutual habitus concerning the thesis in the form of essay writing and how is this expressed?The study is based on a qualitative survey in which the respondents mainly answered open-ended questions with written answers. These answers have been categorized and analyzed with the aims of the study and the previous research in mind. The views on the purpose of the thesis differ, both within the group teachers/students and to a certain degree in relation to policy documents. The value of the thesis differs within the group.

Syftet med studien var att undersöka studenters kost- och motionsvanor vid Högskolan Väst relaterat till kön och institution. Studiens resultat baserades på 323 insamlade enkäter, relevant litteratur och vetenskapliga verk som avhandlingar, rapporter och artiklar. Resultatet av högskolestudenternas kost- och motionsvanor analyserades ur ett sociologiskt perspektiv. Studien visade skillnader mellan studenters kost- och motionsvanor i flera avseenden beroende av kön och institution. Kvinnliga studenter på Högskolan Väst har i flera avseenden uppgett sig ha bättre kost- och motionsvanor än de manliga studenterna.

The purpose of this essay is to investigate and assess, with Clausewitz?s theory as thebackground, how different military theorists interpret and relate to the nature of war.This essay illustrates the state of research into Clausewitz?s philosophical influences.Clausewitz?s theory of the nature of war is subjected to a qualitative text analysis that is followedby a critique of other military theorists interpretations of his theory. Subsequently a descriptive,comparative qualitative text analysis is performed where the factors identified by Clausewitz asbeing part of the nature of war (?rational thought?, ?passion? and ?chance?) are used as a meansto interpret and assess how other military theorists relate to Clausewitz theory. This essay ismainly founded on analysis of the works of Jomini, Delbrück, Fuller, Liddell Hart, Handel,Roxborough, van Creveld and Keegan.

The aim of our thesis was to describe how the connection between co-dependent relatives and the alcohol-dependent influences the family into changes in their teamwork.Our purpose was also to answer the following questions: How is it living with an alcoholic? Are there any differences in how men and women feel and behave in their relationship with an alcoholic? Are factors like cultural belonging, genre or social class important for how the co-dependent relatives feels and behaves and handle their co-dependency?To answer these questions we made twelve thematic qualitative interviews with six adult children to alcoholics and six people married to alcoholics. We compared the results of these interviews with earlier research. We also applied System Theory and Goffman's Role Theory, as well as Bourdieu´s Capital and Habitus concept.We believe that co-dependency is a family divergence that is very similar to family disease, but that a change in attitude can trigger recovery. According to the interviews many spouses stand by their alcoholic husbands and do actions that perpetuate the alcoholic dependence and thereby hold back any recovery.
