Fostransuppdraget i Samhällskunskap : En studie i hur samhällskunskapsämnet kan uppfattas när det gäller fostran

The purpose of my study is to gain insight into how the education system (particularly social studies) is morally-minded based on the governing documents, former students and a Textbook. I wanted to find out what morally-minded means and if it has a big role in social studies. Through interviews with former high school students (when my thesis is aimed at high school) I wanted to find out how they felt their social studies were educational and which the values that they had taken on from the lessons. I also chose to analyze a Textbook to get a broader understanding of how the morally-minded education is written in specific areas relating to social studies. My study is a qualitative study and what I came up with is that the former students consider their social studies teaching lacked to some degree when it came to the morally-minded education. My investigation concludes that the morally-minded education is important in social studies as the purpose of social studies is to promote active democratic citizens.

Tillämpningar i kemiundervisningen : en studie av strategier för att presentera och synliggöra tillämpningar

The aim of this study is to investigate how and in which form students come in contact with practical applications in the upper secondary school course Chemistry B. The study is based upon the assumption that all learning is situated in a social environment. The theoretical framework is the design theory perspective, which entails an assumption that the pedagogical tools affect the knowledge content.The empiric materials in the study are collected through three methods: Textbook analysis, classroom observations and questionnaires. Two groups of students and their teachers were observed during a section of the relevant course. The Textbook analysis focuses upon the same course section in the Textbooks of the two groups and compares these books with the relevant section in a third Textbook.

Vem är samen? : En läromedelsanalys av hur samisk kultur och identitet presenteras i Undervisningsmaterial i historia och religion

The aim of this essay is to study how the Sami are presented in four Textbooks about religion and history that are used in the schools of the majority culture of Sweden today and one book of ideas asto how a Textbook could look like from a Sami's perspective. Its aim is not only to study how the Sami are presented but also to discuss how students who read these books could interpret what it means to be a Sami and what their culture is about. It is also meant to discuss how the Sami identitycould be formed. In order to be able to discuss this the essay uses three different kinds of theories about identity and culture. The analysis showed that there is little information about Sami culture, identity, religion and historypresented in the four Textbooks used in schools of the majority culture and that these books seem to want students to think that the Sami are troublemakers but are and should be assimilated into the majority culture..

This essay is a Textbook study where I aim to review four Textbooks regarding some historical events in the subject History. The Textbooks are used in junior high school and the historical events are as follows: the genocide that happened in Congo during the leadership of king Leopold II, the genocide on Armenians in the Ottoman Empire, the Holocaust and the Vietnam War.By performing this study I wanted to answer these three questions:What differences and similarities can be found in how the events circumscribed?How much space do the various events have and has it evolved through the years 1980-2009?How can this be explained?The study has been analyzed from a post-colonial perspective and the recurring patterns that appear show how the texts are post-colonial. This means that the authors of the Textbooks are writing about the same subjects, but in very different ways..

Matematikverkstad : hur kan lärare och elever arbeta där?

The starting point of this work has been to get knowledge about teachers working in a mathematical workshop with the students. I also wanted to investigate what students think about math, both within the workshop and in traditional teaching.To achieve this I chose to interview a teacher in charge within the framework of a mathematical workshop, and six students in the 5th grade. I also did a lesson observation with the purpose to see how well the teacher?s tutoring agrees with the results of the interview.In this study I have discovered that the lessons in the mathematical workshop are planned after what the students are working with in the Textbook. The teacher opens the lessons with the whole class and then splits it up in groups.

Vems islam och kristendom? : En undersökning av tre gymnasieläroböckers beskrivningar och rekontextualiseringar

The purpose of this paper has been to highlight how three different highschool Textbooks portrays Christianity and Islam. The aim of the paper has been to higlight and pinpoint how the three different Textbooks uses different angles and perspectives on recontextualization; which ergo in turn creates a different field of transferred knowledge from each individual Textbook.The paper uses an applied model of Bernstein?s theory of recontexualization, and from it derives two analytical tools to process and make an analysis of the Textbooks transferred knowledge. The first analytical methodical tool of Bernstein?s theory is positioning, which is used in the paper to highlight what the different Textbooks value and evaluate different kinds of knowledge of Christianity and Islam.

Kvinnorna i litteraturhistorien : Hur ser det ut i läroböckerna idag

This study aims to show what differences, if any, there are between how men and women are decribed in new litterature history Textbooks for upper secondary school and then to compare them with and older Textbook where differences already have been spotted. The books we anlyze are Svenska timmar litteraturen by Svante Skoglund (2012) and Ekengrens svenska by Hans-Erik Ekengren and Britta Lorentzson-Ekengren (2011) and the one we compare them to is Den levande litteraturen by Ulf Jansson (2007). To help us anlyze these Textbooks we use Charles Tilly's theory about categorical inequality where he states that inequality exists because of people's fondnes for placing their fellows in different categories such as e.g. man/woman and old/young. We also use De los Reyes' and Mulinari's theory which states that to get rid of the categorical inequality we need to think intersectionally.

Multiplikation och taluppfattning : En läromedelsanalys av hur framställning och strukturering av multiplikation kan påverka elevers taluppfattning.

Flera undersökningar har visat att svenska elevers kunskaper inom områdena taluppfattning och aritmetik har blivit sämre. I denna uppsats står därför taluppfattning, med multiplikation som utgångspunkt, i fokus. Syftet med det här arbetet har varit att analysera hur olika läromedels framställning av räknesättet multiplikation samt strukturering av inlärningen av de grundläggande multiplikationskombinationerna kan påverka elevers möjlighet att utveckla god taluppfattning. För att svara på vårt syfte har vi gjort en läromedelsanalys av fem olika läromedel i matematik, avsedda för åk 1-3. Resultatet pekar på att några av de analyserade läromedlen framställer multiplikation på ett begränsat sätt vilket kan antas ha negativ inverkan på elevers möjlighet att utveckla förståelse för räknesättet multiplikation och därmed också på taluppfattningen.

Vet skolelever mer om Stalins skräckvälde idag än tidigare? : En kvalitativ läromedelsanalys om hur beskrivningar av Stalins terror förändrats i svenska läroböcker i historia från 1950-talet till idag

The purpose of this essay is to examine whether the descriptions of Stalin's terror in history Textbooks for high school changed from the 1950s until the 2010s. Since previous research shows that Textbook content is influenced from different directions and that it dominates in teaching, therefore I want to find out what similarities and differences that exist in the Textbooks. The survey is based on a qualitative approach because I want to have a profound picture of the descriptions of Stalin's terror. The results of the survey show that the number of casualties and the descriptions on the famine has changed over time. Furthermore, Textbooks also found it difficult to distinguish between terror, politics and ideology.

Historiebruk i Japan : skapandet av ett dominerande kulturellt minne rörande krigsbrott under andra världskriget: Nanjingmassakern och Comfort Women

The aim of this study has been to, through a couple of chosen theories, examine in what way Japan as a nation can be said to have dealt with its dark past - concerning their crimes of war just before and during World War II. To do so, I have placed two chosen war crimes, namely the Nanjing Massacre and the matter of the Comfort Women, in the context of remembrance and commemorating of war, through different kinds of aspects. Those aspects are: the Textbook conflict, official apologies, ruthless/unnecessary comments, and visits and commemorations at the Yasukuni shrine.I have found during this study that the nation of Japan has not been able to generate a broadly accepted dominant cultural memory of the war. Henceforth a couple of rival cultural memories are competing and becoming an issue of national division rather than national unity. I have come to the knowledge that there are both domestic and international political factors at play, resulting in this division..

Mobbning Maktspel mellan Mobbaren och Offret : En fallstudie som lyfter fram problemet och skolans kamp

Swedish students' knowledge of mathematics has deteriorated in recent years. Teaching of mathematics is therefore starting point in an ongoing discussion among researchers, school leaders, politicians, teachers and others, who all thinks they know best about how teaching should be designed to the greatest extent possible to raise students' proficiency levels in the subject. Teachers' practices have long been the focus of discussions and views on these differ. The purpose of this paper is therefore to study students 'conceptions of mathematics and mathematics teaching, with teachers' methods and tools of focus, in relation to previous research on the subject. The method used was a survey of students in secondary school and a textual analysis of previous studies on the subject.As revealed by the survey was that the Textbook has a big advantage in mathematics education in Sweden today.Many students are not accustomed to working in a different way and thereforedoes not know either what the alternative approach entails.

Att finnas eller inte finnas : En läromedelsanalys i svenska som andraspråk och engelska med fokus på bias och porträttering av minoriteter

The content of teaching materials considerably affects pupils? attitudes and worldview. This paper is an analysis of Textbooks used in 7th through 9th grade of the Swedish School system in Swedish as a Second Language (SSL) and English as a Foreign Language (EFL). The purpose of this paper is to look at which minority groups, the five official national minorities as well as other minorities, are included and portrayed in the Textbook series Tre gånger svenska and Wings Mini as well as to see if there is any bias in their portrayal. The seven types of bias investigated; invisibility, stereotyping and generalizations, unreality, imbalance and selectivity, fragmentation and isolation, linguistic bias and cosmetic bias are an adaption of the framework to detect bias in curriculum materials presented by Sadker and Zittleman (2002/2003).
