The question of the provision of electronic books in Swedish public libraries has lately evolved into a lively debate in Swedish media, where the public library?s identity and itsexpected role as a democratic institution is an underlying topic. The aim of this bachelorthesis is to examine the idea of the public library?s identity as expressed in newspaperand journal articles by writers connected to the library sector. The aim is achieved byexamining the language-use and identifying discourses in the debate.

I arbetet med uppsatsen har en medicinsk text översatts och den teoretiska bas somanvänts är Nords modell för källtextanalys. Den typ av översättning som eftersträvatsär en instrumentell typ, vilket innebär att mottagaren ska läsa måltexten som ettoriginal och inte som en översatt text. Utifrån det valet analyseras de extratextuellafaktorerna: textfunktion, mottagare, tid och plats, medium samt motiv. Analysenvisar att källtexten och den kommande måltexten skiljer sig åt vad det gäller tid ochplats medan de övriga faktorerna kan anses vara likvärdiga. The goal and purpose of this essay is to study if and how multimodality is used within a Swedish school in Kalmar. This is accomplished by observing the different modalities inside the classroom and how the use of different modalities affects the teaching. Unstructured observations combined with a material-based thematic presentation leads up to an analysis based on social semiotics and multimodality. The essay shows how the teaching uses lots of modalities: sound, images, movies, speeches and literary text in lots of different ways. These different types of modalities are used in a multimodal context, providing good conditions for learning..

Previous research shows that Sweden has developed into a segregated society, although it has never been completely homogeneous. A greater integration led to vast number of diverse cultures and religions; therefore the Muslim custom came closer to the Swedish society.The purpose of this thesis is to study how Muslims were portrayed during the incident in Landskrona in March 29 2010 and the bomb threat in Gothenburg in October 31 2010. The study also focused on what Muslims themselves think about the news reporting that followed.We based our study on a qualitative textual analysis and a dialogue with selected people. Six news articles from various newspapers were analyzed and a total of eight persons were included in the dialogues. The study shows that news reporting has been simplified and misleading.During the incident in Lanskrona the newspapers headlined it as a murder even though the accused had not yet been sentenced at the time.

Utgångspunkten i analysen är Norman Faircloughs tredimensionella modell. Analysen leder till en redovisning av brottsofferdiskursen och dess konsekvenser för samhället. De huvudsakliga slutsatserna är att brottsofferdiskursen är en del av en större diskursordning och underordnas en diskurs i vardera typen av text, internationell, nationell och vetenskaplig typ av text. Synen på brottsoffer och brottsofferdiskursen är avgörande för hur brottsoffer bemöts och vilket stöd de får.

Idag är det mycket vanligt att man använder internet för att söka reda på och ta till sig information, detta är ofta en mycket snabb och enkel metod. För personer med språkliga problem är det dock inte alltid lika enkelt, dagens sökmotorer tar inte hänsyn till hur lättläst en text är (Google har börjat experimentera lite med detta på engelska). En metod för att hjälpa personer med sådana behov är att sortera sökträffar efter hur läsbara de är enligt olika läsbarhetsmått som beräknas automatiskt av en dator. Risken är då att en sådan omfördelning av resultaten premierar träffar som innehåller mindre information eller är irrelevanta givet sökningen. Syftet med studien är att undersöka samband mellan läsbarhet innehåll och relevans för att i förlängningen kunna utforma algoritmer som kan användas för att hitta texter med lagom läsbarhet och informationstäthet åt personer med eller utan lässvårigheter.

Denna reflekterande text behandlar utvecklingen av ett spel som har skapats för att spelas med en delaktig industrirobot. Verket är en digital prototyp som har skapats efter ett antal krav och förutsättningar som ett fysiskt spel till en robot har och fungerar som en hjälp, för att visa hur ett spel till en robot kan utvecklas. Målet har varit att skapa ett underhållande spel till casual gamers och har under spelets utveckling testats i viss omfattning för att se hur det har tagits emot av målgruppen.Innehållet i denna text beskriver verkets syfte och mål samt problemställning. Sedan följer information om vad casual games är och en reflekterande text om de olika delarna i både det fysiska spelet och den digitala prototypen. Den går även igen utvecklingsprocessen och testningen som utfördes till spelet.Resultatet är ett digitalt spel som har tagit emot relativt väl av målgruppen och de flesta ansåg det vara underhållande.

Mot bakgrund av dagens läroplaners betoning av att elever inom olika utbildningsnivåer och från olika kulturella kontexter ska kunna tillgodogöra sig information i text och bild inom olika ämnen, är syftet för denna uppsats att undersöka bilders betydelse för lärsförståelsen hos vuxna andraspråksinlärare i Sfi - svenskundervisning för invandrare. Metoden jag använt mig av är en kvalitativ metod med uppföljande individuella intervjuer. Informanterna delades upp i två grupper av vilka den ena gruppen fick läsa en text med tillhörande bilder samtidigt som den andra gruppen fick läsa motsvarande text men utan bilder. Efter läsningen fick samtliga informanter svara på ett antal övningsuppgifter till texten. Resultatet visade sig bli att de informanter som läst texten med bilder fick ett bättre utfall på övningsuppgifterna än de som läst texten utan bilder.
