Our employer, Gaddad, is a tattoo and piercing community that was created in 2006 with the basic idea to make it easier for people to get in touch with the tattoo artists and piercers from all over Sweden. With the homepage?s popularity at 2009 they decided to expand with the news page Inkzine. 2011 they contacted us with a plan to expand the homepage to Europe and then merge their two sites under the name Inkzine.The goal of this project was to create design suggestions for Gaddad / Inkzine that both the administration and the current users liked and would consider implementing on the website. In order to evaluate the current design and our suggestions we decided to use two questionnaires .

My project is an interpretation and exploration of the book The Invisible Cities by Italo Calvino. It is a play on the swedish words for cities and beaches. By adding the letters R and N the word for cities in the title transforms into the word for beaches. The project is equal parts a color investigation and an exploration of new working methods as it is an development of my approch to graphic design. My aim was to, through a visual, conceptual and playful investigation create a new interpretation of the book The Invisible Cities.

I det här projektet analyseras huset Röken, uppe på det Småländska höglandet, en plats med mycket historia. Från 1600-talet då en bräcklig fred gör att huset byggs till då huset moderniseras under mitten av 1900-talet och blir inrett med många möbler från Ab Svenska möbelfabrikerna, som bara låg några kilometer från platsen. Detta leder fram till en undersökning av familjen som äger huset och till Jan Strand, min far, idag den enda permanent boende där. Projektet har mynnat ut i möbeln ?Beach? avsedd att användas då Jan i ensamhet njuter av jazzmusik uppe i sin sons rum..

Landskapsarkitekter har möjlighet att genom gestaltning främja estetiska värden i tekniska anläggningar och kan på så vis ge dessa anläggningar mervärden utöver deras tekniska funktion. Detta kandidatarbete omfattar ett gestaltningsförslag för en planerad dagvattendammsanläggning i Hudiksvall. Vi ville med gestaltningen skapa en plats som inte bara uppfyller tekniska behov utan också blir attraktiv för människor att besöka genom att erbjuda estetiska värden och upplevelser. Metoden för vårt arbete innefattade platsbesök, inventering, möten med representanter från Hudiksvalls kommun, analys, gestaltningsarbete samt litteraturundersökningar. Genom litteraturen undersökte vi betydelsen av begreppet estetik utifrån Simon Bell och Ian H. Thompsons teorier. Under arbetet läste vi också Patrik Grahn för att få inblick i hans teorier kring naturens förmåga att ge rekreation.

The criterion for the profile is to give a message of quality and ofScandinavia. Through research and interviews facts about typical scandinavian design have beenfound. Since the pictures will be exported abroad, a selling packaging solution has been developed. Theparts that are included in the marketing material are: a brochure, display solution, a website and printingexamples.

The city of Kalmar has a desire that their 3D maps of the city should come to a greater use and get residents more involved in Kalmar city. The purpose of this report is to show one way to work with these 3D maps when it comes to presenting information about Kalmar for its residents and tourists in a specific area.  The report also includes information about advantages and disadvantages with the use of 2D and 3D maps in different environments. Various reports and other sources indicate an interest in 3D and a use for this, but even that 2D is still seen as a natural way to read a map. By collecting information from relevant literature, interviews and user testing, the group has obtained sufficient background information to present the results of a web site, where the visitor can navigate in both 2D and 3D in a specific area of Kalmar. User tests and surveys have been conducted in two rounds and the web site has been revised after their results..

Med dagens teknologi kan man genom fotografier inte bara avbilda verkligheten, utan även skapa alternativa verkligheter. Den här studien har fokus på hur man kan skapa fotorealistiska montage och hur digitaliseringen av fotografi har påverkat fotografiets position som sanningsvittne. Genom en teknisk undersökning har två montage skapats i syfte för att granska tillvägagångssätt i skapandet av fotomontage. Det resultatet visade är att det är möjligt att kombinera fotografier till ett montage, som kan upplevas som fotorealistiskt på ett sömlöst och enhetligt sätt. Med hjälp av tidigare forskning och den tekniska undersökningen drogs slutsatsen att skapandet av sömlösa montage inte är oöverkomligt och att det bara är fantasin som sätter gränser då ett montage kan jämföras med en tavla.

This thesis of 15 hp has been implemented at Halmstad University, incollaboration with Saab Dynamics in Linköping. Saab Dynamics is a companyoperating in the defence industry where competition is tough. This necessitatesnew ways to increase efficiency in the company, which is the basis for this thesis.Saab Dynamics wants to introduce simulation driven design. Since SaabDynamics engineers have little experience of simulation, required a usermethodology with clear guidelines. Due to lack of time, they chose to assign thetask to students, which resulted in this thesis.The aim of the thesis is to develop a methodology in mechanical design, wherethe designer uses the FE analysis early in the design process to develop thestructures' mechanical properties.

Denna studie belyser användarvänligheten och den tekniska kvaliteten på webben, som idag är mycket mer utbrett än tidigare. Användarvänlighet är idag ett krav för att kunna mäta sig med konkurrenter även i webbsammanhang för att kunna få användarna att stanna på webbplatsen. Syftet med studien är att titta på hur man på bästa sätt kan utveckla en användarvänlig webbplats, utan att gå miste om väsentliga delar och funktioner. Under arbetets gång jämfördes två webbplatser utifrån användarvänlighet mot varandra och mot den teoretiska grund som finns inom området. Sedan gjordes en observation och en intervju med tillhörande frågeformulär hos sex utvalda respondenter för att kritiskt kunna granska utvalda webbplatser och sedan utveckla en helt ny utifrån detta resultat..

It may seem obvious that the urban space in our northern cities should be design to function and inspire throughout the whole year. This is not always the case. The urban space is often designed on a summer basis and the winter is regarded more as a problem then a resource and its potential remain unused. I have in this master thesis studied the impact of the winter on people and spaces and ponder on how to design functional and attractive places for winter. The project ends in a design concept for Broparken in Umeå on the theme "everyday winter day". The work with this thesis has given me, as a landscape architect, valuable experiences and filled a gap of knowledge that I had in this subject. I hope that this thesis can inspire Umeå kommun and others who are interested in how northern cities can benefit by its climate and develop towards a more complete city. The thesis begins with a chapter that present the subject from four different perspectives.

This examination paper is about the potential for Solar cells on apartment blocks. The technology with using solar cells for manufacturing electricity, has been on the market for a while, but recently the new installations of solar cells has increased. Solar cells are suited for placements on buildings but are expensive to obtain. The municipal real-estate company is interested in solar cells but wants to know more before they invest in the technology. This report contains an account of the solar cell and a guide to how a connection to the grid is accomplished.

Several cities have implemented various projects to improve traffic safety in city centers.During 1970s and 1980s the city centers changed as the suburbs grew and large shopping centers were located outside the center. At the same time, several projects were initiated with construction of pedestrian streets and restriction of traffic in the center. In year 1994,shared-used areas were introduced in Sweden and these areas are often used in center environments.In Sweden, municipalities are responsible for integrating security in public places and in comprehensive plans and detailed development plans. The National Board of Housing,Building and Planning is the authority for administrating planning issues and develop general guidance about planning. Traffic is one of their key issues, although today there are no concrete guidelines from the National Board of Housing, Building and Planningfor the design of traffic safety in city centers.Traffic safety in city centers affects many people because the city center is a public place.It is therefore important that there are current guidelines available that are helpful for changes and improvements in traffic safety in the city center.The purpose of this report is to formulate guidelines for planning city centers from a traffic safety perspective.

As a result of the so called ?Million Program? between the years 1965 ? 1975 the design-build contract had its breakthrough in Sweden. Since then, the contract form has become increasingly common and now holds a strong position on the Swedish market. In design-build contracts it?s usual that the design and production time is overlapping.

A variety of demands have to be considered in the design of a new opera house in Galärvarvet. All possible viewpoints are important to be aware of, as is the need for the new building to be a contrast to the already existing opera house in Stockholm. The restricted site also makes a multitude of demands on the building's design.By rationalizing the layout and structure and also by making the footprint smaller, the complex building of over 30 000 square meters can be fitted and blended into the existing physical context. Unlike the existing opera house in Stockholm, the new opera house shows the rationality and the advanced technology that lies behind the scenes and becomes the character of the entire building. Through the dynamic façade, the new opera can convey any character it so desires, just like scenes do through different settings.
